Right, let's have a look at what Cayton Bay Pumphouse is doing. This is a reef setup that picks up a southeasterly swell best, and right now, it’s a pretty quiet picture over the whole 16 days. There isn’t any surf worth paddling for in this window. The first suggestion of a wave isn’t even a real wave, so we're looking at a long stretch ahead.

The water here is sitting around 59° at the start, basically bang on average for July, so no weirdness there.

For the first few days, into the end of July and the start of August, the combined energy is just pathetic – mostly zeros and a few weak readings like 14 (14), 17 (17), and 22 (22). The swell heights are tiny, mostly 2 ft or less, and periods are short, around 4 to 5 seconds. The wind is mixed, with a bit of cross-off and even a glassy moment on the morning of the 30th, but there’s simply no swell to surf. The comments all say "poor surf conditions." It’s a total blank.

The rest of the first week and into the second week is more of the same. We see a few bumps, like the afternoon of the 1st of August where the combined energy hits 45 (45) from a 2 ft southeasterly, but the period is a weak 5 seconds and the wind is a fresh cross-shore, making it lumpy. Not worth getting wet for. The 7th of August has a slightly better looking combo: 3 ft from the north with a 6-second period and a moderate offshore wind from the southwest, giving it a combined energy of 44 (44). That’s about as good as it gets, but 3 ft on a short period with a reef that wants a different direction just isn't going to offer much shape.

After that, the 8th and 9th of August are back to zeros and tiny, weak energy readings. There is nothing here to get excited about. For an area like this, a blank run like this is pretty normal when the conditions don't line up. The forecasts can change, but as it stands, it’s a stay-at-home kind of period.
