Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Maze (Tiree) over the next 16 days.
Right then, folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the 16-day window for The Maze (Tiree) is a bit of a tough one. The waves are there, but the wind just doesn't want to play ball for a proper surf session. We're looking at a long stretch of poor conditions, with nothing really worth paddling out for until the 14th of July.
The first real chance to get wet comes on Tuesday morning, the 14th of July. We've got a small, clean 2ft swell from the west with a period of 11 seconds, so there's a bit of groundswell energy in there. The combined energy is moderate at 134, and with light, offshore winds it'll be clean. The water temperature is 56°, which is pretty much bang on average for the time of year, so no surprises there. The afternoon looks similar, with a slightly bigger 2ft west swell, but it's still just "surfable" – not exactly firing. Wednesday the 15th morning is much the same story with a 2ft west swell and light winds, but the energy drops off quickly.
The real kicker is that every single time the swell tries to get going, the wind turns onshore or howling cross-shore. From the 17th onwards, we see a few pulses of bigger swell, like on the 20th of July when a 8ft west-southwest swell rolls in with a massive 717 combined energy, but it's a total onshore mess. That's strictly for kite surfers, not paddle surfers. The same goes for the 21st with a 8ft west swell (982 energy) and strong onshore winds. It's powerful, but you'd be mad to paddle out.
The absolute best of a bad bunch is still pretty ordinary. Honestly, there's no standout here. The cleanest conditions are on the 14th and 15th with the small, weak west swells. If you're desperate, the Tuesday morning (14th July) with the 2ft west swell and light offshore breeze is your best bet, but keep your expectations low. The rest of the period is a write-off.
Rusty.
