Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Maze (Tiree) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the next couple of weeks at The Maze on Tiree.
First up, the water temp is sitting at 56°F, which is bang on average for this time of year. Nothing unusual there.
Honestly, it’s a bit of a rough start. The forecast kicks off with a lot of cross-shore wind and messy conditions. The swell is there, but it’s not clean. For the first several days, it’s a write-off for a decent paddle. We’re looking at a gap of about three days with nothing really worth getting excited about. The wind is just too strong and from the wrong angle.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Sunday the 12th. The morning shows a glassy session with an ESE breeze at 3 mph, but the swell is tiny at 2ft from the W with a short period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy is a weak 50. It’s surfable, but you’ll be fighting for scraps. The afternoon cleans up into a cross-off, but the swell drops to 2ft. It’s a good session for a longboard or a foiler, but not a standout.
The best on offer in this whole run looks like Tuesday the 14th. The morning shows a 2ft swell from the W with a period of 11 seconds, and the combined energy bumps up to a moderate 131. The wind is a light cross-off from the SSE at 6 mph, keeping things clean. The afternoon holds up too, with 2ft from the W and lighter cross-off winds. The period is 10 seconds. It’s not big, but it’s the cleanest, most consistent window we’ve got. The crowd situation at The Maze can be “sometimes” busy, so keep an eye out.
After that, the forecast fades again. The rest of the second week is a mix of glassy flat spells and lumpy, cross-shore winds. A couple of mornings around the 15th and 16th are glassy, but the swell is barely there (2ft and 1ft). By the 19th and 20th, we’re into a solid run of cross-on winds from the NW, making it choppy and messy. The end of the period, around the 23rd and 24th, shows a bit more size, with a 4ft swell from the NW, but the period is short (6 seconds) and the wind is cross-on, so it’s not going to be pretty.
In short, the first week is a wait, Sunday the 12th is a tease, and Tuesday the 14th is the pick of the bunch. The rest is a bit of a bust.
Rusty.
