Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Maze (Tiree) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the pipe for The Maze (Tiree). Gotta be straight with you, it’s a pretty lean outlook for the next couple of weeks. The water’s sitting at 56°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so nothing weird going on there.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a long stretch of nothing. From the 10th of July right through until the morning of the 15th, it’s basically a write-off. That’s nearly five days of small, weak, or messy conditions where you’re better off doing something else. The little bits of swell that show up are just too small or have the wrong wind on them. The energy is weak, barely getting into double digits some days (like 21 to 49), so don’t bother paddling out.
We finally get a tiny glimmer on Wednesday the 15th. The morning session at The Maze offers a bit of hope with a clean, cross-off breeze at 9 mph and a knee-high 2 ft swell from the W with a 9-second period. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The afternoon goes glassy with no wind at all, which sounds dreamy, but the swell drops off even more. The energy is just 45. It’s a small window for a longboard or a foiler, but not much else.
The next standout window that’s worth getting excited about is Friday the 24th. This one is a true bright spot, but it’s a long way off, so keep an eye on the forecasts as we get closer. The afternoon looks excellent. The Maze will see a clean 5 ft swell rolling in from the WSW with a solid 10-second period, pushed by a light offshore wind from the SE at 9 mph. The energy is strong, hitting 474. That’s proper, clean, lined-up surf. Expect it to be good. Given it’s a point break setup, that longer period will wrap in nicely. Just be aware that crowds are sometimes a factor here, so don’t expect to have it all to yourself.
The following morning, Saturday the 25th, still has clean conditions from the southeast, but that wind is howling at 28 mph in the morning. The swell is still there at 5 ft from the W, but that wind is going to turn it into a battle to get out and manage the chop. It’s more of a kite-surfing proposition by then unless you’re a total beast on a paddle board. The afternoon is still clean but the wind is still fresh at 19 mph. It's all downhill from there again.
So, to sum it up: don't even think about it until Wednesday morning the 15th for a tiny session. The real one to circle on the calendar is Friday the 24th. That afternoon could be the best surf in this whole 16-day stretch. Lock it in.
