The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the next couple of weeks for The Maze. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, so let’s get into it.
The start of this period is a write-off. There’s not much on offer through the rest of this week, with tiny, short-period swells and messy winds. We’re looking at a gap of a few days with nothing to get excited about. The water temp is sitting at 58.6°, which is about normal for this time of year.
Things try to pick up a little on Wednesday the 19th. We’ve got a 7.2ft W swell with a 10-second period, and the energy is building (996). It’s still not great, with a light cross-onshore wind making things a little lumpy, but the morning is your best bet. It's a marginal call.
The swell builds more through the end of August and into the first of September, but the wind is the problem. We get some clean conditions on the 24th and 25th, but the swell is either too small or the wind is too strong. By the 31st, it’s big, but it’s also blown out with gale-force winds, so forget it.
Now, here’s the one that gets the heart pumping. The standout is Tuesday, the 1st of September. There’s a serious groundswell coming in, peaking at 18ft from the W with a very long 13-second period. The energy readings are huge (11467). It’s going to be big, powerful, and definitely for experts only – this is over 8ft, so it’s not for the faint of heart. The wind is cross-on in the morning, but it looks like it might ease off, and the afternoon shows a gentler breeze. The break itself is fairly consistent, but with a swell this size, expect it to be challenging. The 16.4ft WNW swell in the afternoon with a light cross-shore is a close second, but the morning's size and period just edge it out for raw power.
The rest of the first week of September looks like it will hold some size, but nothing with the same certainty. It’s a long-range call, so treat it as promising but not locked in.
Stay safe out there.
