Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Maze (Tiree) over the next 16 days.
Hey, Rusty here with the long-range look at The Maze. Gotta be honest, the next couple of weeks are a real test of patience. There’s a whole lot of nothing before we finally see a pulse.
We start off on Sunday the 12th with flat, weak conditions. Swell is barely 2 ft with weak energy, and the wind is all wrong—cross and cross-off. It stays like this, tiny and blown-out, for over a week. We’re talking ankle-snappers with energy readings under 60, and the wind staying messy. The setup from the 18th onward with strong onshore wind and lumpy chop is way more suited to kite surfing than paddle surfing. There’s a complete gap of no surfable waves all the way through.
Finally, on Friday the 24th of July, we get one decent shot. The morning looks like the best of the whole run. A 4 ft swell from the W with a 9-second period pushes through, and the combined swell energy is 251 (moderate energy), giving it some grunt. The real winner is the wind—a light SSE breeze making it clean and cross-off. It’s the only day that’s described as "good surf."
The Maze (Tiree) is a fairly consistent spot, but the short period means the waves won’t be the cleanest shape, but on a point, you’ll still find some rides. It only gets crowded sometimes, so you might have it mostly to yourself. The water temperature is about 55°, which is normal for this time of year. The afternoon session on the 24th goes glassy, but the swell drops to 4 ft and the energy drops off.
After that, it’s back to small and choppy from Saturday the 25th through the end of the run.
So, save your energy for the morning of Friday the 24th. That’s your one and only call in this forecast. Otherwise, the board stays in the car.
Rusty.
