Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Hey, Rusty here. Let me break down the surf prospects for The Maze (Tiree) for you. Honestly, it’s a rough ride ahead for the next couple of weeks.
We are looking at a big fat nothing for the first week. The entire stretch from the 7th of July right through to the 13th is a write-off. There's a little bump on Tuesday the 7th with a 6ft west swell, but a strong cross-onshore wind just tears it apart, making it a total mess. The energy is weak to moderate, but it doesn’t matter because the wind ruins it. By Friday the 10th, we’re down to 3ft, and still cross-shore. It’s just not happening.
Your only real chance, and I mean the only one, is on Tuesday the 14th of July. We’ve got a clean 2ft of west swell rolling in. The period stretches out to 11 seconds, which is proper groundswell. The wind goes light offshore from the east. That will set the waves up clean on the point. The energy is still weak, reading 121, so it’s not big, but it will be tidy. Because The Maze is a point and beach break, that longer-period groundswell will give you longer waits between sets but better-formed waves. Crowds are possible there, so keep an eye out.
The water temperature is about what you’d expect for July, nothing strange going on.
After that 14th, it all goes flat again. From the 15th of July right through to the 22nd, we’re looking at tiny waves under 2ft, with almost no energy. The wind stays clean for a few days, but there’s just no swell to push it.
This is a long dry spell for the area. It happens. We just have to sit it out and hope the models change.
Stay patient,
Rusty.
