Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Maze (Tiree) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s size up the next couple of weeks.
Okay, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – the first week is a real dry spell. We’ve got a long, quiet gap from Thursday the 9th right through to Monday the 14th. The swell is tiny and the wind is a total pain. You’re looking at knee-high slop with onshore or cross-shore breezes. The combined swell energy is barely a whisper (between 29 and 311). It’s not worth paddling out for.
Things show a little life on Tuesday the 14th. The morning at The Maze (Tiree) sees a bump to 3ft from the WNW, with a nice 11 second period. The energy picks up (162), and it’s clean with a light cross-offshore breeze. The afternoon is even better – the wind goes glassy, and the swell holds at 3ft from the W. It’s still small, but for a quiet spell, that’s your best bet for a few fun, clean waves. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
But the real standout, the one you’ve been waiting for, is a late bloomer. Keep your eyes on Wednesday the 22nd of July. The afternoon session at The Maze is a proper heavyweight. The swell jacks up to 8ft from the WNW, with a long 13 second period. The combined energy is massive (1765), telling you there’s a serious amount of water moving. It’s going to be a powerful, grinding groundswell. The catch? The wind is a fresh cross-shore, so it’ll be lumpy and tricky. This is advanced, expert territory – those waves are pushing well over 8ft in the sets, so steer clear if you’re not solid. The Maze is a beach and point setup, so that long period swell will work best on the points, but it’ll be a battle.
The 23rd and 24th of July see the swell drop back but still hold sizeable (5ft to 6ft) with decent energy, but the winds stay messy. The first week is a write-off, but that Wednesday the 22nd afternoon is the one to circle on the calendar if you’re a seasoned local looking for a late-summer bomb.
Rusty.
