The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's break down what's on the table for the next couple of weeks.

We're looking at a pretty slow start for Gwenvor, a point break that's a solid beginner-friendly spot. It's exposed to the west swell, and the optimum swell direction is from the west. The water temperature feels about normal for this time of year, nothing to write home about.

Things are going to be a bit of a waiting game. The first few days are a write-off with poor surf conditions. Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th have tiny 2ft waves coming from the west-northwest, with a weak combined energy of just 68 (Saturday) and 49 (Sunday). The wind is cross-off or cross-on, but the lack of swell just doesn't give us anything to work with.

Monday the 10th morning offers a glimmer of hope with a slight air and clean conditions, but the waves are still a meager 2ft with a short period of 8 seconds. The energy is weak at 69. It's surfable, but very ordinary. That trend continues through to the end of the second week.

The real standout, and the only one worth getting excited about, is Tuesday the 18th of August. The early morning is no good, with a 8ft swell but a cross-on wind making it choppy. But the real story is the afternoon. We've got a solid 10ft swell from the west-northwest, with a moderate combined energy of 1241. That's a moderate to strong wave energy. The period is 9 seconds, so it's a short-period swell, but the size is there. The wind is a gentle cross-onshore, making it fairly choppy. This is a big one, so it's strictly for the experts. It's a true standout for the period, but it's a long way off, so treat it as a promising but less certain call.

After that, things wind down again. The 19th has a 5ft cross-shore chop, and the 20th is back to small, clean but weak waves. The 22nd bumps up to 6ft but with a light cross-onshore.

So, here's the bottom line: We've got a long flat spell, then a massive, expert-only window on the 18th of August afternoon. If you're an advanced surfer, keep your eyes on that date. Everyone else, hold tight.

Rusty.
