The Lowdown
Right then, let's take a look at what Constantine Bay has got lined up. I've got to be straight with you, mate, this is a rough run. For a spot that's usually very consistent and exposed to the west, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty bleak. We've got a long stretch of small, weak swell and rubbish wind, so we’ll be waiting a good while.
The whole 16-day window is a bit of a non-event to be honest. Friday the 21st starts off with a gnarly cross-shore wind from the north at 16 mph and a weak 3 ft W swell. The energy is low at 191 (moderate wave energy), but it's all chop and rain, so don't bother paddling out. That sets the tone. Over the weekend and into the following week, the swell drops right off – we're looking at knee-high waves, mostly under 2 ft. It's dead. A brief moment on Saturday morning the 22nd has a clean, light offshore wind (ENE 6 mph) with a 2 ft W swell, but it's just not enough push to get excited about. The energy is barely registering (114), so it's a surfable wave in name only.
The only real spike in size comes around Friday the 28th of August, with a 6 ft W swell showing up, then blowing out to 7 ft over the weekend. Sounds promising, right? Wrong. The wind is a complete mess. It swings onshore and cross-onshore from the west, blowing 16-19 mph. The energy climbs up to strong levels (638 by the 29th), but the condition is just blown-out, lumpy garbage. This is a beach and reef setup, and with that wind, it's going to be a washing machine. Honestly, that weekend looks more interesting for kite surfing than for us paddle surfers. The sea temperature here is just about average for the time of year, nothing out of the ordinary. For the whole run, the best call might be the very end of the forecast, around Friday the 4th of September, when a tiny 0.7 ft WSW groundswell meets a gentle offshore ENE breeze. It'll be clean, but there's no wave to ride. Stick to the longboard if you're desperate, and maybe find a sheltered corner. A blank run like this is pretty normal for the area when the Atlantic refuses to play ball.
Rusty.
