The Lowdown
Alright, grab a cuppa and listen up. It's Rusty here, and I've been staring at the charts for Constantine Bay, and it's a bit of a mixed bag to be honest.
First off, we've got a couple of solid days of swell, but the wind is the real villain here. For the first few days, it's a write-off. Friday morning the 21st, we've got a cross-shore gale howling at 16 mph, and the sea is a mess. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year at 66°, but that's small comfort.
We finally get a window of clean surf on Saturday morning the 22nd. The wind swings offshore from the ENE at a light 6 mph, and the bump is gone. The swell is small, just 2 ft coming from the west with a 10-second period. The combined energy is weak (105), so don't expect much push, but it'll be clean. Saturday afternoon stays clean but the wind picks up a touch.
Sunday morning the 23rd is glassy, with a light offshore breeze, but the swell is tiny, barely 0.7 ft. You'd be hard-pressed to get a ride. The rest of the week is a slog. The wind is either cross-shore, cross-on, or onshore, and the swell is unremarkable for the most part.
The real story is the end of the run. Wednesday the 3rd of September morning is a gem. The wind is dead calm, glassy, and the sea is flat as a pancake with a 2 ft west swell. That's your best bet for a peaceful, clean session, even if it's small. Then, later that same day, the bottom drops out. A 7 ft NNW swell rolls in, but it's accompanied by a 9 mph cross-onshore wind, making it a messy, lumpy affair. That's a lot of water moving around with a combined energy of 458, but the wind just ruins it.
The 8 ft plus swell we see on the 31st of August and 1st of September is for experts only, and with the onshore winds, it's likely a washing machine. For a beach and reef setup like Constantine Bay, the long period swell (like the 14-second one on the 23rd) might be too straight for the beach break, but the reef could offer a better shape.
Overall, the standout is that glassy morning on the 3rd of September. It's a long way off, so don't bank on it, but it's the cleanest option on the cards. The rest of the 16 days? It's a lot of waiting for the wind to play nice.
Rusty.
