The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a proper look at what Constantine Bay has got cookin’ for us over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one. The opening stretch is a real mixed bag, but if you’re patient, there might be a glimmer of hope right at the very end.
We start off on Thursday the 20th with a bit of a lump. There's some decent size, around 7-7 ft from the west, but the wind is howling from the WNW and NW, smashing it up into a choppy, cross-onshore mess. The energy is moderate, but it's just not rideable. Friday's no better, with smaller waves and messy cross-shore winds. It’s a pretty bleak start.
The whole weekend and into the following week is basically a write-off. There are days where the swell completely drops out, like Sunday the 23rd and Monday the 24th, with tiny waves barely reaching 0.7 ft from the southwest. The wind is clean on those days, but there’s just no water moving. The energy is basically zero. The gap between Thursday the 20th and anything worthwhile is nearly two weeks of waiting.
We get a pulse of energy through the 26th-28th, with the swell jumping back up to 5-10 ft, but the wind is still all over the place – cross, cross-on, lumpy. Even when it gets big on the 28th (10 ft from the west with strong energy), the wind's howling cross-shore and it's just too messy for a paddle.
The one thing that stands out in this entire outlook is the very last window. On Thursday the 3rd of September, things finally line up. The morning is showing a glassy 6 ft from the northwest. The wind is dead calm and it’s meant to be glassy. The energy is moderate, and while the period is short, the complete lack of wind on a solid waist-to-chest high swell makes this the clear winner of the whole forecast. It'll be a bit fat and dumpy at this beach-and-reef setup due to the short period, but clean and rideable.
Then Friday the 4th of September morning offers another clean, glassy window, with a slightly smaller 4 ft from the north. The water temp is sitting at a balmy 66°, which is nearly 4° warmer than usual for the time of year – feels like a wetsuit-free session might be on the cards.
To be honest, this is a tough stretch of waiting. The first two weeks are full of either too much wind or no swell. The only real standout is that Thursday the 3rd of September morning session if you can hold out for it. Keep an eye on it, but for now, don't get your hopes up too high for anything before that.
Rusty.
