Table - best surf conditions forecast for Constantine Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s look at what we’ve got coming for Constantine Bay over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with you: the next few days are a bit of a letdown. We have some waves, but they’re nothing to get excited about. The best early window is Friday the 10th. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s the pick of a pretty quiet spell. Friday morning, we’ve got a clean 3ft swell rolling in from the west with a 9-second period. The combined energy is moderate at 134, and the wind is light offshore from the ENE at just 3 mph. That means glassy, clean conditions on the faces. The water is sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than what you’d expect for this time of year. That offers some comfort while you’re sitting out there. This is about as good as it gets in the first week.
The afternoon on Friday holds similar small 3ft surf with a light cross-off breeze, still rideable but not the peak of the day. After that, we drop off sharply. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th see the swell shrinking right down to barely 1ft, with energy dropping to as low as 23. The wind stays clean offshore, but there’s just not enough ocean to work with. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the 15th are much the same story – small, weak west swell with energy readings all below 55. It’s a long flat spell, and the 15th afternoon is glassy but with only 1ft on offer. That’s not really enough to paddle for unless you’re on a longboard and desperate for some Zen time.
There’s a noticeable gap of several days with no real recommendations until we turn the corner towards the second week.
Now, jumping ahead to Saturday the 18th, we see a pulse of north swell hitting 6ft, with moderate to strong combined energy readings of 351 and 322. That’s a significant jump in size – this one is definitely for the experienced crew only, as it’s pushing past 5ft and will be a handful. But here’s the catch: the wind is blowing hard and cross-shore at 18 to 25 mph, making it lumpy and messy. That’s more of a kite-surfing scene than a classic paddle session. The swell direction is north, which isn’t the optimum west-swell direction the break prefers.
The real standout, and I mean the one that might be worth marking on your calendar, looks to be Saturday the 25th of July. We’ve got a strong 6ft west swell pumping in, with a very strong combined energy reading of 503. The period is 9 seconds, giving it some push, and although the wind is cross-onshore from the northwest at 15 mph, those cross-onshore conditions are manageable. The swell is coming from due west, which is exactly what Constantine Bay is looking for. This is the biggest, most energetic surf in the whole outlook. It’s big enough to be expert territory, but if you’ve got the skills and you pick your bank, there could be some proper, powerful waves. Sunday the 25th afternoon stays solid at 5ft and 408 energy.
The rest of the second week has a few other days with waist-to-chest high waves, like Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd with 4ft west-northwest swell and moderate energy (around 250-280), but the winds are often onshore or cross-onshore, keeping things a bit choppy.
So, bottom line: the first week is small and slow. Make the most of Friday the 10th morning if you want a clean little session. Then you’ve got a long lull. The big prize is way out on Saturday the 25th – a powerful west swell that’s worth the wait, though it’ll be a raw and challenging day. Keep your eye on that one.
Rusty.
