The Lowdown
Alright, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Constantine Bay over the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, mate, it’s a pretty grim run. The whole 16-day window is looking like a write-off for any decent surf. There’s a real gap here with no good waves to speak of. The first few days are particularly rough – Wednesday the 19th through to the end of August are all marked by poor surf conditions. You’ve got a lot of strong onshore and cross-onshore winds smashing up whatever swell is there. The water temperature is sitting at 66°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least it’s not a cold session if you do go for a paddle, but the waves themselves are just not worth it.
The only faint glimmer I can see is on Tuesday morning, the 25th of August. There’s a bit of a cleanup with a gentle breeze and a cross-offshore wind, and the wave comment says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” The swell is tiny though, just 1ft from the WNW with a period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is a weak 40. It’s not really something to get excited about, but if you’re desperate for a float, it’s the only window that’s not completely trashed. Even then, it’s hardly a standout.
The rest of the period is just bad news. Thursday the 27th sees some moderate sized swell, up to 5ft from the west, but the wind is onshore and the conditions are poor. By the end of the month, on Monday the 31st of August, we get a pulse of 8ft swell from the west with a period of 10 seconds and a massive combined energy of 1277 – that’s a strong, powerful swell. But the wind is a fresh cross-onshore, so it’ll be a lumpy, blown-out mess. That’s one for the experts only, and even then, it won’t be pretty.
Honestly, for a spot that’s usually very consistent, this is a blank run. The forecast can change, but right now, I’d say leave the boards in the van and go for a walk along the beach instead.
