Table - best surf conditions forecast for Constantine Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, it’s Rusty here, and I’m looking at the charts for Constantine Bay. Gotta be straight with you: this is a tough run. The next sixteen days are looking lean, real lean. For the next week or so, we’ve got tiny little sloppy swells and the wind just won't play ball. The whole setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, to be honest. There are going to be long gaps here with nothing on offer, so it’s a good time to chill out.
Let’s start from the top. Saturday 11th July barely registers. A weak 2ft on the push from the west, but with only 10 seconds of period the energy is feeble (96) and that cross-off breeze doesn’t make up for it. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing weird going on there. The whole morning session is just messy.
Sunday 12th July sees a little bump early with a 3ft westerly groundswell, but the period drops to just 6 seconds – that’s short period wind swell, real weak energy (62). The offshore wind from the east sounds good on paper, but with the swell being so gutless, it’s still just ordinary. The swell fades to nothing in the afternoon.
We get a tiny bit of life on Monday 14th July with 1ft from the west. The light offshore wind (10 km/h) will keep the surface clean, and the period at 11 seconds gives it a bit of shape, but it’s tiny. The energy here is only at 52, so you’d need a longboard and patience.
The rest of that first week? Forget it. Tuesday 15th July has a little 1ft but with a cross-onshore wind it’s choppy. Then from Wednesday 16th through to Friday 24th July, it’s a grim procession of onshore winds, rain showers, and tiny 1ft to 1ft slop. The wind is hammering from the north-west and west, and the swell direction doesn’t match the optimum west direction at all. It’s just lumpy, choppy, and not worth a look.
There is a small sign of life on Saturday 18th July with a 3ft north swell, but that period drops to 5 to 6 seconds. The energy finally climbs into three digits at 117 on Monday 20th July, but that’s all from a fresh onshore gale. The waves will be a messy, blown-out wall of white water. That 4ft on the 20th is totally destroyed by 30 km/h onshore wind. Not surfable, and definitely not for beginners—too much wind and chop. This whole stretch is a kite surfer's dream.
The only faint glimmer in the second week is on Sunday 26th July. We get a clean cross-off breeze from the SSE and a swing in the swell direction. It’s a tiny 0.3ft from the southwest with a long 12-second period. The energy is only 13, so it’s barely a ripple, but for once the wind is off and the water will be glassy. You could get a longboard out for a few tiny, clean waves, but the best part of the day will just be the peace and quiet. That's it for the “highlight”.
Signing off from a quiet beach. Rusty.
