The Lowdown
Right then, let’s talk about Constantine Bay. It’s a beach and reef setup, exposed to the west, and it’s very consistent. The water is sitting at 64°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
Honestly, looking at the whole 16-day window, I’ve got to be straight with you—things are looking pretty grim. The forecast is a long stretch of really poor surf conditions. The first few days, from the 19th through the 21st, we’ve got tiny, weak swell with short periods around 5 seconds, and the wind is mostly cross or cross-off, so the shape is gonna be messy. The combined wave energy is barely getting into double digits (46), so there’s just no power behind it.
We do see a slight bump in swell on the 22nd and 23rd, with the swell hitting 3ft from the north, but the period is still a poor 5-6 seconds. The energy does pick up a bit (73–81), but the wind is a problem—cross-off in the mornings but then turning into a fresh cross-shore that’ll chop it right up. It’s still poor surf quality.
The best chance we see is on the 26th of July. The swell jumps to 5ft from the west-northwest, with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy hits 181, which is a moderate pulse of energy. But here’s the kicker—the wind is onshore all day, 12 mph from the west-northwest, making it choppy and crumbly. It’s not going to be clean. For anyone with experience, it might be worth a look, but the quality is going to be poor.
After that, we’ve got a long, drawn-out run of weak, onshore or cross-onshore wind through the end of July and into the first week of August. The swell barely hangs around 2ft to 3ft, and the energy is mostly weak (under 100). There’s no standout clean window.
The only real highlight is a brief moment on the morning of the 3rd of August. We get a clean, cross-off wind from the north-northeast at 16 mph, with a 2ft swell from the west and a period of 10 seconds. The energy is 83, so it’s not big, but that clean wind could make the weak waves rideable for a log or a funboard. But it’s a long way off, and the swell is small.
Given the consistent poor forecast, with no proper groundswell and a lot of chop, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing for most of the period. If you’re desperate, the 26th will have the most size, but don’t expect any gems.
Rusty.
