Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. I’ve had a good look at what Constantine Bay has in store for us over the next couple of weeks, and I’ve got to be straight with you – this is a real mixed bag, with plenty of waiting around for the good windows.
The water temperature at Constantine Bay is currently sitting at 63°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Nice for a long session without a thick winter suit.
Looking at the overall pattern, we're starting with a pretty grim run. The first several days are a write-off, with poor surf conditions dominating right through Sunday the 5th and into the following week. You’ll see a tiny bit of energy on the chart, but the wind and quality are just not there.
There’s a little glimmer early on Wednesday the 8th of July, with a glassy morning. Swell is only a weak 2 ft from the west, with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy is a very low 88. It’s surfable, but it’s ordinary. I’d say it’s worth a paddle if you’re desperate, but don’t expect any gems.
Then we hit another dead spell. From Thursday the 9th through to Friday the 17th of July, it’s a long, drawn-out stretch of poor to very ordinary conditions. The swell stays small, mostly below 3 ft, and while we get some clean-looking windows with cross-offshore or offshore winds, the wave energy is just pathetic. There’s a morning on Saturday the 11th with a 4 ft northwest swell, but the period is a short 7 seconds and the combined energy is only 215 – moderate at best. Still, the wind is clean, so it’s not a total loss if you’re after something small and tidy.
The real standout for this whole forecast, and the one you should circle on your calendar, is the morning of Sunday the 19th of July. We’ve got a solid 5 ft west swell rolling in with a 7-second period, and the combined energy is a healthy 218. But the kicker is the wind – light easterly offshore at 3 mph, near glassy. That’s going to make for clean, fun waves. It’s not huge, so perfect for a wide range of surfers, and the offshore wind will keep the faces nice and lined up. It won’t be epic, but it’s the best on offer by a long shot.
After that, the swell actually ramps up for Monday the 20th of July, with a 7 ft to 8 ft west-northwest swell, but the wind swings onshore and the combined energy jumps to 519 – very strong. That’s expert territory size-wise, and the onshore wind is going to chop it up bad. That morning is marginal at best; I’d probably give it a miss unless you’ve got a big board and no standards.
So, to sum it up: the first week is mostly a bust, with only a few barely surfable windows. The morning of the 19th is your best bet for a decent session with clean conditions. After that, it gets too big and messy for most of us.
Rusty.
