Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Dumps at Brandon Bay. It’s a bit of a slow burn this fortnight, but there are a couple of windows worth getting excited about.
Right now, we’re in a rough patch. The water temp is 61°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year, but the surf is nothing to write home about with a persistent cross-onshore wind messing things up. The energy levels are weak to moderate (495 to 169), and while there’s some WNW swell around 4 ft to 6 ft, the onshore breeze just chops it up. We’re looking at a gap of several days with poor conditions.
The first real glimmer comes on Wednesday the 8th of July. Early morning, the wind drops to glassy and we get a clean 4 ft of WNW swell. The period is 9 seconds, so it’s a short-period windswell, but the glassy conditions make for surfable waves. The energy is moderate (213) and it’s not big, so it’s accessible for intermediates. Thursday the 9th of July morning is similar: glassy again with a touch more size at 5 ft from the WNW. The wind is dead calm, making for good, clean conditions.
Things go quiet again until the morning of Friday the 17th of July. That’s over a week away, so treat it as promising but not guaranteed. The forecast shows a sudden jump to 6 ft from the west with glassy wind. The period is only 8 seconds, so it’s a short-period swell, but with that clean wind, it could be the standout of the run. The energy level is moderate (377), so there’s some push.
Dumps is fairly consistent and fairly exposed to the NW swell direction. For the best on offer, aim for the glassy mornings of the 8th and 9th, and keep an eye on the 17th. The crowd factor is “sometimes,” so you might have company on the better days.
Rusty.
