Table - best surf conditions forecast for Dumps (Brandon Bay) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the next couple of weeks for Dumps (Brandon Bay) are a tough one. We’ve got a real dry spell on our hands.
The pattern starts with a whole lot of nothing. From Monday 13th July right through to Saturday 25th July, it’s grim. You’re looking at tiny, weak swell – nothing over 2ft and most of the time it’s around 1.0ft to 2ft. The combined swell energy is pathetic, mostly in the teens and twenties (24-77), with a few days scraping up to just 75. That’s barely enough to get your fins wet. There are some glassy mornings and clean conditions, sure, but with no swell to work with, it’s just a flat lake. A few of those mornings, like Thursday 16th and Friday 17th, have glassy conditions, but again, no waves. It’s a real bummer.
Then, out of nowhere, things get wild. On Sunday 26th July, the swell jumps to 6ft from the NW, but it’s accompanied by a strong 19 mph onshore wind and the combined energy hits 522. That’s not a surf forecast – that’s a washing machine. Monday 27th July is even worse: 10ft to 12ft from the WNW with 25 mph onshore winds and storm risks. Combined energy is through the roof at 1213 and 1955. This is big, messy, dangerous stuff – only for absolute experts, and even then, the wind is so bad it’s unsurfable. Honestly, at that point, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The only glimmer of hope is Tuesday 28th July. The morning brings a 10ft WNW groundswell with a period of 11 seconds, combined energy a massive 2153. The wind drops to a light 6 mph onshore. It’s still a big, powerful swell, so it’s only for experts, but the conditions are the best of the lot. That’s the only standout in the whole 16 days, and it’s a long way off.
So, the short version: a huge gap of flat, tiny surf for nearly two weeks, then a stormy, dangerous mess, and finally one morning of big, powerful, but surfable conditions for the brave. Don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
