Table - best surf conditions forecast for Dumps (Brandon Bay) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the outlook is a tough one. We’ve got a whole lot of days with hardly any juice at all. The first proper surf recommendation doesn't show up until the very end of the run, so you’re looking at a long gap of quiet, small waves from now until the tail end of the period. It’s not going to be a total blank, but the quality is so poor for most of it that it’s not worth paddling out.
The only spot on the cards is Dumps (Brandon Bay). The water temp is sitting at 63°, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you might get away without a thick wetsuit.
The first glimmer of something rideable is on the morning of Sunday, 27 July. We’re looking at a small 3ft swell from the west, with a period of 9 seconds. The energy is weak (187), so these are gutless little lines. The wind is a light cross-onshore, which isn’t ideal, but it’s not a total blowout. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. It’s a long wait for a pretty average wave, but if you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s your window.
The afternoon of Monday, 28 July is actually the best of a bad bunch. The swell drops to 3ft from the west, with an 8-second period and even weaker energy (145). But the wind goes glassy. That’s a major positive. If you can find a ripple, it’ll be clean. The waves are tiny, so you’ll need a longboard or a foiler, but you won’t be fighting the wind.
Honestly, the standout, if you can call it that, is that glassy spell on Monday the 28th. It’s the only time the conditions line up to give you something clean, even if it’s small. For the rest of the run, it’s a lot of waiting.
Rusty.
