Alright, Rusty here again, givin’ you the same read but in feet and miles for the old-school crew.
The water’s at 63°, which is over four degrees warmer than normal for this time of year. Pretty impressive – you can definitely go short on the rubber.
Sunday morning, July 5th: the swell’s around 5 feet from the west, period about 9 seconds, moderate energy (398). But the wind is onshore from the southwest at 6 mph. Choppy, messy. Score is garbage. The afternoon is 5 feet – same story. Sunday is a day off.
Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th have the drop to 4 feet of messy west swell with onshore and cross-shore wind. Not worth waxing the board.
Here’s the good part. Wednesday morning, July 8th: 4 feet from the west, 9 seconds, but the wind goes *glassy*. Dead calm. Energy is moderate at 258. The scores say good conditions. For Inch Reefs, that is hands-down the little window you want. It’s an advanced point, fairly consistent, and with glass like that, you’ll have clean lines all morning. It’s small but clean – and that makes it the standout.
Thursday morning, July 9th, repeat performance: glassy, 4 feet west swell, solid 276 energy. That’s another real good session before the wind turns in the afternoon.
Friday July 10th: the swell falls to 3 feet in the morning, then drops further to 1 feet by the afternoon. Clean but small. The energy plummets to 23. First week is effectively over.
From Saturday July 11th until Tuesday July 14th morning, you’ve got tiny swell – like mostly 0.3 feet to 3 feet. But Tuesday morning July 14th is another glassy score: 3 feet west-southwest swell, 10 seconds, and 209 energy. Sweet conditions for a clean point break. Grab a log or a fish.
Saturday afternoon July 18th picks up again – 5 feet west swell, 9 seconds, clean offshore wind from the north-northwest, 306 energy. That’s a rippable, punchy swell. A good finish to the waiting game.
Now Sunday July 19th is the big one. The morning swell is 10 feet from the west, 8-second period, with huge energy at 1158. By the afternoon, it’s 13 feet at 10 seconds and a colossal 2877 energy. That’s way too big for a paddleboarder here. Wind is onshore in the morning, then a stiff cross-shore. For the average punter, that swell is better suited to kite surfing than a traditional paddle session. If you’re an absolute expert charger, you might score a ledge.
Monday July 20th, it drops back down to 5 feet, messy cross-shore wind, nothin’ special.
So overall, the clearest standouts: Wednesday July 8th morning and Thursday July 9th morning for the clean glass, and Tuesday July 14th morning for another glass delight. And Saturday July 18th afternoon for a clean, punchy west swell.
There are gaps from Friday arvo July 10th until Tuesday morning July 14th for decent size, then again until Saturday. But that’s the nature of an exposed point – you wait for the windows.
Stay salty,
Rusty
