Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next little while. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, so let’s get straight into it.
First off, we’ve got to talk about Inch Reefs. This spot is a point break, exposed to the swell, and it’s got a nice shape when it’s working. The water temp is feeling pretty normal for this time of year, so nothing wild there. Now, the first couple of days aren’t screaming “go time,” but there’s a real standout shaping up.
Wednesday morning, July 8th – that’s your early call. The swell is coming in at 5 ft from the WNW with a 10-second period (moderate energy, 377). But the real story here is the wind: it’s glassy. Dead flat, clean as a whistle. That’s the kind of morning you drag yourself out of bed for. The waves will be holding shape, and while it’s not a monster, that clean surface is going to make every wave count. Expect a bit of a crowd though – it’s a known spot, and conditions like this will pull people in.
After that, things get a bit ordinary. By Thursday afternoon, the wind swings cross-on, and by Friday we’re looking at tiny, weak waves. The swell energy drops right off (down to 59 and 61 on Friday). We’re talking about a lull that stretches for days. From July 10th right through to July 21st, it’s all poor surf conditions – small, weak, and messy. The combined energy values are in the dumps, mostly under 100, with very little period to give it any grunt.
Then, just when you think it’s done, Wednesday morning, July 22nd pops up as another glimmer. There’s a 3 ft swell from the west, a 10-second period, and the energy jumps up to 241 (moderate). The wind is cross-off and clean. It’s not the biggest, but it’s a wave you can actually ride with some fun. That’s a solid option to mark on your calendar if you’re patient.
So the standout is Wednesday morning July 8th – glassy, clean, and a proper fun size. The second one is Wednesday morning July 22nd – a bit smaller, but clean and rideable after a long dry spell. Everything in between is a write-off for paddle surfing.
Rusty.
