Table - best surf conditions forecast for Inch Reefs over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a pretty quiet start. The first few days are looking like a real struggle with barely any swell to speak of. We’re talking tiny waves, mostly under 1 foot, and not much energy behind them. The combined wave energy is down around 10 to 28 (weak), so honestly, don’t even bother paddling out until things pick up.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Monday, July 14th. We start seeing a little bump in swell, with the morning offering 2 feet from the west. The combined energy climbs to 128 (moderate), and we’ve got light offshore winds from the NE. It’s not going to be epic, but it’s surfable. That afternoon, the wind goes cross-off from the east, still light, and the swell holds at 2 feet from the west. It’s a start.
Tuesday, July 15th, is worth a mention. The morning is glassy with a slight breeze from the southeast, and the swell is a tiny 1 foot but with a long period of 16 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell, and at Inch Reefs, that long period will wrap in nicely. The energy is still low at 68 (weak), but the conditions are clean. The afternoon stays glassy with a risk of thunderstorms, but the swell holds at 1 foot, periods still at 16 seconds. For a point break like this, it’s a sneaky window for a few clean waves.
The stand-out window in this whole outlook is actually the later part of the first week and into the second. The morning of Thursday, July 24th, the swell jumps to 4 feet from the WNW with a period of 8 seconds, but the wind is a fresh cross-shore from the NW at 22 mph. That’s messy. The combined energy is 193 (moderate), but the wind is going to chop it up.
Now, the real standout is Saturday, July 26th. The swell builds to 8 feet from the WSW, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is a massive 613 (strong). That’s the biggest swell of the window. But – and it’s a big but – the wind is onshore from the WSW at 9 mph. That’s going to be lumpy and messy. For a point break exposed to the SW, this is a lot of water moving. At 8 feet, this is expert territory only. The afternoon is even bigger at 8 feet (energy 705) with onshore winds. This is a powerful, chunky swell, and with the wind against it, it’s going to be a battle. Honestly, for a beach or point break, this much swell with onshore wind makes it look more interesting for the kite surfers than paddle surfers.
Sunday, July 27th, still has 6 feet from the WSW but with onshore winds. It’s dropping. The last day of the forecast, Monday, July 28th, sees the swell drop to 4 feet from the west, with the morning wind being light cross-onshore. The afternoon of the 28th is glassy with a light breeze from the NNW, making it the cleanest option of the late period, but the swell is only 4 feet with a period of 8 seconds. It’s surfable, but very ordinary.
The water temperature is 64°, which is a notable 5° warmer than normal for this time of year. You’ll be fine in a shorty.
So, the best on offer? Your only real standout is the morning of Saturday, July 26th, for the big swell. It’s for experts only, and the wind will be messy, but the size is undeniable. The most user-friendly, cleanest window is the glassy morning of Tuesday, July 15th, for a few long-period runners. The rest is a waiting game.
Rusty.
