The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s shaping up over the next couple of weeks.
We’re looking at a pretty quiet start at Inch Reefs. The first handful of days are going to be a grind, with tiny swell and nothing really worth getting wet for. There’s a real gap here from the start all the way through until the 23rd of July, where we finally see a little bump in energy. So, patience is the name of the game.
The first hint of anything surfable arrives on the morning of Thursday the 23rd of July. The swell comes up to 2.3ft from the west, with a period of 10 seconds, and the energy is moderate at 102. The wind is glassy – that’s a big plus for clean faces. The afternoon holds a similar 2.6ft from the west at 9 seconds, energy up to 110, with a light cross-off breeze. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s a start.
The real standout, and the one to circle on your calendar, is the morning of Sunday the 26th of July. Inch Reefs is exposed to the swell, and we’ve got a solid 6.2ft from the west, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy jumps to a strong 606. The wind is a light cross-off from the ESE, keeping things clean. That’s a proper point break day, folks. The swell direction is straight out of the optimum SW for this spot, so it should be lining up nicely. Keep in mind, at 6.2ft, this is pushing into expert territory – it’s not a day for beginners. It’s a point break, so that longer period groundswell energy will wrap in nicely. The water temp is a very unusual 65.7°, which is a massive 5.8° warmer than normal for this time of year – feels like a tropical surprise.
The following Monday morning, the 27th of July, is still big, with 8.2ft from the west and a very strong energy of 1146, but the wind is cross-shore from the SE, which will put a bit of a chop on it. That’s for the experts only. After that, the wind turns onshore and the quality drops right off for the rest of the week.
So, the best bet is the 26th of July morning. The 23rd is a nice little warm-up, and the 27th morning is big and powerful, but the wind isn’t as kind. Keep your eyes on the sky for that Sunday.
