Alright guys, Rusty here, giving you the lowdown on Inch Reefs for the next couple weeks. We’ve got a classic point break setup – advanced only, fairly consistent, and it can get a few heads out there sometimes. The water’s sitting at 63.0°, which is a solid 3.8° warmer than usual for this time of year, so you’re in for a pleasant paddle.
The week kicks off with a real treat. Tuesday morning, July 7, is looking glassy with a 3 mph west breeze – dead calm. Swell is 4.3ft from the WNW, period 10 seconds, and the combined energy is 336 – moderate but punchy. That’s clean, lined-up waves for the experienced crew. Wednesday morning, July 8, is almost identical: another glassy start, 3 mph from the SW, swell 4.6ft from the WNW, period 10 seconds, energy up to 377. If you can only get out once, make it one of these two mornings. The wave comment says “expect good surf conditions” and I’m feeling it.
By Thursday morning July 9 the wind shifts onshore (SW 6 mph) and the swell bumps to 4.9ft, period drops to 9 seconds – still surfable but sloppier. Friday July 10 has smaller stuff (3.3ft to 2.0ft) and cross-off winds, so it’s ordinary. Then from Saturday July 11 right through to Wednesday July 22, things go flat. We’re talking waves below 1.6ft, periods all over the place, and combined energy barely cracking 100. The wind stays offshore or clean but there’s no power behind it. That’s a solid week and a half of nothing worth paddling out for.
So the window is tight – Tuesday and Wednesday mornings this week are your standouts. After that, maybe check the kite gear if you’re desperate, because the surf just isn’t there. Keep an eye on the long‑range, but right now I’d say cash in while you can.
