Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright mates, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s on offer at Inch Reefs.
The start of this forecast window is pretty grim. Through to Monday the 6th, the wind is onshore and the surf is poor. Swell runs from about 6ft down to 4ft, but the onshore junk kills it. The energy is moderate (587 down to 181). Not worth a paddle.
Tuesday morning the 7th is where things turn. The wind goes glassy, and even though the swell drops to about 4ft from the west with a 9-second period, it’s clean. Combined energy is moderate (223). For a point break, that long-period groundswell and no wind means smooth, well-shaped waves. Water temp is around 62°, which is a touch warmer than usual for July. This spot does see crowds sometimes, so get in early if you can.
Tuesday afternoon gets a cross-shore and turns marginal, but Wednesday morning the 8th is another good one—glassy again, 4ft west swell, 9 seconds, energy 258. Clean and fun for the advanced surfer.
Thursday the 9th is the clear highlight. Morning has a light cross-offshore breeze, 4ft west swell, 9 seconds, energy 241. By the afternoon, the swell builds to about 5ft, the wind stays clean cross-off, and energy jumps to 355. That is a proper swell direction for this SW-facing point, and the wind will make it silky. This is the standout—solid size, clean conditions, and consistent sets.
Friday the 10th has a short window in the morning with offshore winds and 4ft west swell, but it fades. Then from Saturday the 11th onward, it’s flat. There are a few tiny pulses of long-period swell from the southwest on the 11th and 12th—periods of 17 to 21 seconds—but the wave heights are only a few inches with very weak energy (14 to 28). That’s nothing. There’s a little bump of 4ft west swell on Monday the 13th afternoon, but with cross-offshore winds and marginal quality, it’s a no-go. After that, it’s poor conditions and tiny surf through the 19th.
So your best bet is Thursday the 9th. Get out there early for the clean, chest-to-head-high west swell at a point that will be reeling. After that, it’s a long stretch of quiet.
Rusty.
