Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the only game in town for the next couple of weeks and get straight into it.
Right then, it’s a bit of a flat spell to kick things off, but we’ve got a little window of opportunity opening up. The standout is Inch Reefs, a solid point break that needs the right direction to fire. There’s a bit of a wait though—don’t bother paddling out until at least the morning of Tuesday the 7th, and even then it’s marginal with a wind straight out of the west killing the wave quality.
The first proper sniff of something good comes Wednesday the 8th morning. We’ve got a modest 4ft swell rolling in from the west, with a decent 9-second period. The water’s a warm 63°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the thick rubber at home. But the real story is the wind—dead glassy, a light southerly breeze. That’s going to make the surface clean as a whistle. The combined energy is still on the weaker side (203), so expect small, clean lines, not a thumping groundswell. This is the best you’ll get for a while.
Thursday the 9th morning looks very similar again: another 4ft west swell with glassy conditions from the SSE. It’s small and clean, a proper longboard or fish session. The energy is about the same (202). You’ll want to be out there early before any afternoon cloud and a touch of west wind can bump it up.
After that, it fades. Late on Friday the 10th the wind swings and gets lumpy, and then we’re back into a poor run. There’s a little bump in swell on the 14th and 15th of July, with waves pushing 5ft and 5ft from the west, but the wind is cross or cross-onshore, making it choppy and difficult. The energy picks up a bit (491 on the 14th morning), but with the wind all wrong, it’s a mess for the point. This stretch is worth a miss unless you own a kite.
By the 17th and 18th, we’re dropping back into knee-to-waist high dribble with very low energy (80–123). It’s clean with offshores, but barely a ripple. The forecast changes a long way out, but right now, circle Wednesday and Thursday mornings of the 8th and 9th for the cleanest, most surfable small waves.
