Alright, let’s break it down. The only spot worth talking about for the next couple weeks is Inch Reefs. It’s a point break that loves a good west swell and needs that offshore from the northeast. Right now, we’re not getting that combo.
Starting off, Sunday the 5th of July is a bust. The water temp is 63°F, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s notable. But the surf is junk. Light southwesterly wind blowing straight onshore, and you’ve got a 5ft swell from the west with a 9-second period. The combined energy is 398 (moderate), but it’s weak and messy. Don’t bother.
Monday the 6th is more of the same – swell drops to 4ft, same crummy onshore wind. Poor conditions.
Things turn around on Tuesday, the 7th of July. Morning is glassy – dead calm, wind from the WSW at just 3 mph. Swell is 4ft from the west with a 10-second period, combined energy at 276 (moderate). Clean as a whistle. The point will handle that longer period nicely. Good for intermediate surfers, not too big.
Wednesday the 8th morning is also glassy, same 4ft west swell, 276 energy. Clean again.
The real standout is Thursday, the 9th of July. The morning is dead calm – zero wind from the ESE. Swell picks up to 5ft from the west, 9-second period, energy at 319 (moderate to strong). Glassy smooth. By afternoon, it gets even better: swell hits 5ft, energy jumps to 423, and the wind is a light north-northwest cross-offshore, leaving the waves clean and lined up. That afternoon session on the 9th is the best of the entire outlook.
After that, it fades fast. Friday the 10th drops to 3ft and smaller. Saturday the 11th morning has a 4ft WNW swell with a 10-second period and 285 energy, but the wind is blowing 16 mph from the NNW – cross-off, but strong enough to mess with the surface. Afternoon is flat at 0.3ft.
From the 12th onward, it’s mostly tiny waves, with the occasional faint pulse. Tuesday the 14th morning is glassy with a 3ft west swell and 10-second period, 245 energy – could be a fun little session if you’re keen. But honestly, after Thursday the 9th, it’s a long stretch of weak, poor surf.
So, bottom line: the best waves are on Thursday the 9th of July, especially the afternoon. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are clean but smaller. After that, you’re waiting for a miracle.
Rusty.
