The Lowdown
Alright, this is a rough stretch for us here. Looking at the entire 16-day window, the pickings are slim with only a few brief moments that might get your heart rate up. We’ve got a real gap from Sunday the 23rd all the way through to the first glimmer of hope on Thursday morning, August 27th.
The main event is Inch Reefs. It’s an exposed point break meant for advanced surfers, and it’s fairly consistent, which is about the only thing we’ve got going for it right now. The water is sitting at 64°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
For the first few days, it’s a write-off. Sunday the 23rd has tiny 1ft SW swell, and while there’s a glassy moment in the morning, it’s just too small to bother with. Monday and Tuesday aren't any better—tiny and weak.
Thursday morning, August 27th is where it finally clicks. We’ve got a 4ft swell from the WNW with a 10-second period. The wind is offshore from the ENE at 9 mph, and it’s clean. The combined wave energy is moderate at 240. It’s not huge, but with that offshore wind ironing it out and the point break handling the swell direction, it’s the clear standout of the whole period. This is the one session to circle.
After that, it’s back to the desert. Friday the 28th through the end of August is blown out or tiny. You get a little bump on Monday, September 1st with 5ft onshore slop, but that’s messy and disappointing.
The second week is mostly a write-off. There’s a moment on Saturday afternoon, September 6th. We’ve got a 4ft swell from the west (9-second period) and the wind drops to glass—dead calm. The energy is strong at 303. This could be a sneaky clean session if the tide plays ball, but it's a long way out, so treat it as a promising possibility rather than a guarantee. The rest of that week is plagued by strong, messy winds.
All in all, the only true standout is the Thursday morning session on the 27th at Inch Reefs. Get it while you can.
