The Lowdown
Right, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Inch Reefs over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – the start of this forecast is a right mess. We’re looking at a big hole with no decent waves until we get towards the end of the first week.
The first couple of days, Tuesday and Wednesday, are a complete write-off. You’ve got a tiny, gutless swell and a mean cross-onshore wind that’s just murdering any chance of a wave. It’s choppy, it’s weak, and it’s frustrating. There’s a window from Thursday morning through Saturday morning where the wind cleans right up, going cross-offshore and even glassy on the Sunday. However, the swell is pathetic, barely 1ft to 2ft. You’ll get a few tiny, clean, pretty bumps, but you’ll be fighting for a ride. The combined energy is weak (between 64 and 89). It’s surfable, but it’s a long way from good.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Come Monday, August 24th, things wake up. We’ve got a pulse of 7ft to 7ft swell from the West, but the wind swings onshore again and it’s lumpy. The energy is solid (939), but with the chop you’d be better off with a kite than a paddleboard.
The real standout is the period from Wednesday morning, August 26th and through Thursday, August 27th. This is the best on offer. The swell holds steady at a solid 5ft to 5ft from the West, with a 9 to 10-second period, so it’ll have some proper push. The combined energy is strong, hitting between 341 and 446, but the real win is that the wind swings cross-offshore. It’ll be clean, lined up, and proper good for Inch Reefs. Those waves will peel nicely. For a point break like this, a 5ft swell is an ideal size for a rippable day and it’s still manageable for stronger intermediates.
After that, it fades fast. Friday the 28th drops to almost nothing, and the rest of the forecast into September is a sad story of tiny waves, onshore winds, and stormy conditions. There’s a potential window on August 29th with a clean, glassy morning, but the swell is only 3ft. From there, it’s a long gap of poor conditions right through the first few days of September.
One last thing – the water temperature is 65°F, which is about 4°F warmer than you’d expect for this time of year. It’s noticeably pleasant out there.
So, to wrap it up for Inch Reefs: the first week is mostly a dud, but brace yourself for August 26th and 27th. That’s the two-day window where the stars align.
