Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for us here at Inch Reefs.

Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a window. Wednesday morning, July 8th, is looking like the standout for the whole run. We’ve got a clean 5ft swell coming from the WNW, with a period of 10 seconds, and the wind is glassy. That’s the kind of start that gets the blood pumping. The water is sitting at 64°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you might not even need a full suit. The wave energy is solid at 377 (moderate), and for a point break like this, that long-period groundswell is going to set up nicely. Expect some decent lines, and with the wind being glassy, it’ll be clean as a whistle. Just keep in mind crowds are possible here.

The afternoon of the 8th is a step down; the wind goes cross-on, and the conditions are more marginal. Thursday the 9th is also a bit of a write-off with onshore winds and messy conditions, despite the swell size sticking around 5ft to 5ft.

Friday the 10th brings a bit of relief. The morning has a smaller 3ft swell from the west, but with a cross-off wind, it’s clean. The energy is pretty weak though, at 149. The afternoon picks up a bit more energy (334) with a 4ft swell from the WNW, but the wind is a bit stronger.

Then we hit a flat spell. From Saturday the 11th right through to the morning of Sunday the 19th, it’s pretty much a desert. There’s almost no swell to speak of, with heights barely breaking 2ft and most days sitting at 0.3ft to 1ft. The energy is negligible, and the conditions are poor. It’s a long gap of about 8 days with nothing worth paddling out for.

Things start to look up again on Sunday morning, July 19th. We’ve got a 3ft swell from the west, with a 10-second period, and a clean cross-off wind. The wave energy is back up to a solid 223 (moderate). It’s a promising start to the second week, but it’s still a bit far out to get too excited.

The real beauty might be on Tuesday morning, July 21st. That morning is showing 4ft from the WNW, with a 10-second period, and glassy conditions. The energy is pumping at 341 (moderate). That’s a serious contender for the best of the second week, though it’s a long-range call so keep your fingers crossed.

After that, it gets a bit sketchy. The 22nd and 23rd of July look ugly, with onshore winds and a massive, messy 16ft swell on the 23rd afternoon. That’s expert territory only, and even then, with 16 mph winds, it’s going to be a washing machine. Honestly, for the standard punter, that setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.

So, to wrap it up: get out there on Wednesday morning, July 8th, for the best of the best. If you miss that, keep an eye on the 19th and especially the 21st, but don’t hold your breath for anything in between.

Rusty.
