The Lowdown
G'day, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Inch Reefs.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you—this 16-day window is a shocker. We're looking at a solid two weeks of almost nothing, so don't be holding your breath. The first real glimmer of hope doesn't show up until Monday the 3rd of August, and even that's a bit of a tease.
The water's sitting at 65°F right now, which is a whopping 5°F warmer than normal for this time of year. That's a weird one—feels more like a bath than a proper surf session.
For the first week and a half, from Sunday the 19th of July right through to Friday the 1st of August, it's cactus. Swell's tiny, mostly around 0.7ft to 2ft, with periods barely scraping 8 to 11 seconds. The combined energy is pathetic—we're talking single digits and low double digits (14, 21, 97... it's not good). Winds are mostly offshore or cross-offshore, which would be great if there was any wave to ride, but there isn't. The reports are all saying "poor surf conditions" and scoring zeroes. Don't even bother paddling out.
Now, there's a little spike on Friday the 31st of July morning. The swell jumps to 4ft from the WNW with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy hits 256—that's moderate energy. But it's onshore wind from the SW, blowing straight into the face, so it's gonna be a mess. That's a hard pass.
The only standout, and I mean the only one worth talking about, is Monday the 3rd of August. The morning session is calling for a 5ft swell from the west, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is 302, so there's some decent juice. But the real winner here is the wind—it's glassy. Dead flat calm. That's going to make Inch Reefs look like a mirror. It's a point break, so it handles that west swell nicely, and with optimum direction from the SW, this is your best shot. The break is advanced and fairly consistent, but don't think you'll have it to yourself—crowds are sometimes a thing here. It's still a bit short-period, so it won't have that grunty groundswell feel, but for this run, it's the pick of a very poor bunch. After that, it's back to tiny dribble for the rest of the week.
Rusty.
