Table - best surf conditions forecast for Inch Reefs over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down the next 16 days for Inch Reefs. This point break really needs a good SW swell to get going, and the charts are showing a quick hit of fun surf before a long, flat lull, and then a big, messy swell at the end.
The standout is Thursday afternoon, July 9th. The water is running a very unusual 3° warmer than normal, so you’ll be comfortable in a spring suit. We’ve got a 5 ft swell from the west with a 9-second period, and the combined energy is moderate at 377. The wind is a light cross-offshore breeze from the NNW at 6 mph, keeping the surface glassy. This is the session to aim for – clean, well-shaped waves on the point. Crowds are possible, so plan accordingly.
Friday, July 10th, is still surfable. The morning drops to 3 ft from the WSW, but the wind stays light and cross-off. The afternoon picks up to 4 ft from the WNW with a 10-second period and energy of 315. It’s clean, but the size isn’t quite as good as Thursday.
Then we hit a dry spell. From Saturday, July 11th, all the way through the morning of Thursday, July 23rd, the swell just disappears. For nearly two weeks, we’re looking at shin-high dribble, mostly under 2 ft, with periods that are either too short or too long. Most days are a total washout. There’s a tiny pulse on Monday, July 13th afternoon with a 0.9 ft SW swell, but the energy is weak (106) and it’s barely a ripple.
The ocean wakes up on Thursday, July 23rd afternoon. A strong 5 ft swell from the WNW with a 10-second period rolls in, carrying 492 energy. By Friday, July 24th morning, it’s even bigger at 6 ft from the WNW with 701 energy – that’s a lot of power. But the wind is a cross-onshore breeze from the S and W. That onshore wind is going to chop up the point, making it messy. At 6 ft, it’s for experts only, and the quality will be poor. This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
So, your window is Thursday afternoon, July 9th. Jump on it, because after that it’s a long, flat wait until the end of the forecast, when the ocean gets big but the wind spoils it.
Rusty.
