The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let me give it to you straight – the next 16 days at Inch Reefs are mostly flat. This is a point break that needs a solid SW groundswell to get going, and we’re not seeing any. The first few days are a bust. From Saturday July 18 through Sunday July 19, there’s practically nothing – wave heights under 0.7 ft, combined energy tiny (26, 18, 0...). The water is running way warmer than normal, 66°F with a 5°F anomaly – that’s a big jump. But don’t get excited for the surf.
Then on Monday July 20 morning, we get a little something: 2 ft from the W, 11-second period, combined energy 84 (still weak). Wind is cross-off from the NNE at 6 mph, so it’s clean but the waves are small. That’s the best of the first week, and it’s not much. After that, it drops to 2 ft and then 1 ft through the rest of the week, with occasional offshore winds but no size. Periods stay short (8–10 seconds), so no power.
There’s a gap of about a week with nothing worth surfing. Then on Sunday August 2 morning, another small bump: 2 ft from the W, 8-second period, combined energy 66. Wind is cross-off from the N at 6 mph. Again, clean but weak. That’s the best of the whole run, but it’s still tiny. For an advanced point break like Inch Reefs, anything under 3 ft is barely rideable unless you’re on a longboard. Crowds are "sometimes" but with these conditions, you’ll have it to yourself.
If you’re desperate, the July 20 morning and August 2 morning are the only windows with a hint of surf. Otherwise, it’s a long, flat stretch. The setup is a point, so long-period groundswells would be ideal, but we’re getting none. This is a blank run – and for this area, that’s normal during a quiet spell. Keep an eye on the charts, but for now, I’d say find another hobby.
Rusty.
