Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's on the menu for Inch Reefs over the next couple of weeks.
Alright, so we have a bit of a slow start for the ol’ Point. The first few days are a mixed bag, but things get interesting mid-week. We’ve got a run of moderate, clean swell coming in that looks pretty promising. The water is sitting at 63° Fahrenheit right now, which is much warmer than normal for the time of year, so don't expect a chilly session at the start of this.
The action kicks off proper on Tuesday, July 7th. The morning is pure glass at Inch Reefs, with a clean 4ft swell rolling in from the WNW. That period is 10 seconds, so it's got a decent pulse to it and the energy is moderate at 336. This is a day for the longboard or a fun mid-length. The conditions are spot on with that glassy surface and the light air. It’s going to be a good one.
The run of clean conditions holds into Wednesday morning, July 8th. Another morning of perfect glass, 4ft from the west with that same medium-period feel. The energy is still modest at 307, but the complete lack of bump makes it all work.
Thursday morning, July 9th, you’re looking at another glass-off with 5ft from the west. Energy is ticking up a bit (319), but the quality should be high again. This is the best stretch of the run.
Things get ordinary on Friday, July 10th. The swell drops away, and the wind swings around, making for a marginal end to the week. After that, we hit a real flat spell. From Saturday the 11th right through to the middle of the following week, it’s tiny. The swell barely registers, dropping to 0.3ft and 0.7ft through the weekend and into early next week. The energy is basically non-existent, dipping into the low double digits. You could paddle a Bic across the reef.
We do see a slight lift on Tuesday, July 14th, with a 2ft west swell creeping in and getting the energy back to 122. But it’s small and just “ordinary” conditions. That little bump fades again into the 15th and 16th, and then the outlook gets into the really small and messy stuff again.
The standout window is clearly the Tuesday, July 7th through Thursday, July 9th sessions. It’s not a massive swell, but the combination of glassy, offshore wind and that consistent 4ft to 5ft WNW groundswell will have the point running with clean, workable lines. The moderate energy (peaking around 336) tells you it won’t be a washing machine either – just nice, pushy waves. For an exposed SW-facing point like this, that WNW direction is a treat.
For the rest of the forecast, the only other glimmer is that small Tuesday bump on the 14th and Wednesday the 15th, but don’t get your hopes up. It's a long flat spell after that.
So, get on it Tuesday morning through Thursday morning. That’s your call.
Rusty.
