The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way.
Honestly, the next week and a half is looking pretty grim. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak waves and messy wind. The only real window of hope comes in the second week, but it’s a long way off.
We start off with a bit of life on Saturday the 22nd. Inch Reefs will see a tiny 1ft SW groundswell, with a period of 15 seconds, so you’ll be waiting for sets. The water is a touch warmer than normal at 64°F, about 3°F above average. The combined energy is weak (81). Wind is a light cross-off from the N at 9 mph, so it’s clean enough, but the waves are just too small to get excited about. Sunday morning the 23rd is glassy with the same 1ft SW swell, but again, it’s very ordinary.
The first real chance of something decent looks like Tuesday morning the 25th. We’ll see a jump to 4ft from the W with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy ticks up to moderate (214). It’s a little cross-off from the ESE at 6 mph, so the conditions should be clean. This is a standout for the forecast period, but it’s still very modest. Expect the crowd to be out there, as it’s a fairly consistent spot that gets crowded sometimes.
Then we slide back into the doldrums. Wednesday the 26th through Monday the 1st of September is mostly poor, with wind shifts and onshore slop ruining any small bumps. The swell drops to 1ft or less, and the wind is often cross or cross-on.
The next potential highlight is a bit of a gamble. Around Thursday the 4th of September, we see a 5ft W swell pushing through, but it’s got a short period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is strong (407). The wind is light cross from the WNW at 6 mph, so it could be clean, but the forecast is still a week away, so don’t book the time off just yet. This one’s a promising but uncertain call.
The rest of the run into the 6th of September looks like a write-off, with strong onshore winds and tiny, weak swell. The setup here is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing given the wind strength.
So, for the best bet, keep your eyes on Tuesday morning the 25th for the cleanest, most rideable waves, and maybe circle Thursday the 4th of September as a long-range possibility.
Rusty, signing off.
