Table - best surf conditions forecast for Inch Reefs over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for the next couple of weeks.
First off, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a pretty sad start. We’re looking at a long, flat spell with nothing worth paddling out for. From now right through to mid-July, it’s all tiny dribble and poor conditions. You’re looking at a solid gap of about 10 days with practically no surf on offer. The water temp is sitting at 62°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least it won’t be freezing while you’re sitting there waiting for something that never comes.
The first real flicker of hope comes on Monday the 20th, but don’t get too excited. The swell is building, but the wind is a mess. We’ve got a Westerly breeze at 15 mph blowing cross-onshore, making a mess of things. The wave energy is moderate (264), but the quality is poor. It’s really more of a kite surf setup than a paddle session.
Things start to get interesting on Tuesday the 21st. The swell is pushing up to 7 ft from the WNW, with a short period of 9 seconds. The energy is strong (667), but the wind is still cross-shore and messy. It’s a marginal call, but for the big-wave crew, there might be something to look at, if you can handle the chop.
Now, here’s the standout. Wednesday the 22nd of July. This is the one to circle on the calendar. The morning is looking glassy with a calm wind, and we’ve got a solid 5 ft swell from the WNW, still with a short 9-second period. The combined energy is strong (423). This is your best chance for clean, powerful waves. It’s a bit on the hefty side for beginners but for the advanced surfers out there, this is the pick of the forecast. The wind is dead calm, so the faces will be clean. This is a point break, and with the swell direction matching the optimum SW, it should line up real nice. Keep in mind, crowds are sometimes an issue here, so get in early.
The afternoon of the 22nd sees a light cross-onshore creep in, making it a bit less perfect, but still surfable.
After that, the wind and swell get messy again through the 23rd and 24th, with the swell jumping up to 7 ft on the 24th with a fresh cross-onshore wind at 19 mph. The energy is very strong (744), but it’s going to be lumpy and challenging. Not for the faint-hearted.
The 25th still has some size, with 7 ft from the West, but again, the wind is cross-onshore, keeping it from being truly clean.
So, bottom line: suffer through the flat spell, then aim for the morning of the 22nd. That’s your best shot.
Rusty.
