Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the 16-day window for Inch Reefs.
Right off the bat, the opening offering on Thursday the 2nd of July is a standout. We’ve got a solid 7 ft swell rolling in from the west with a 10-second period, and the combined energy is a very respectable 804 (moderate). That’s a decent push of energy for a point break. The wind is a light, cross-off shore from the north at 6 mph, which is going to keep things clean. This is an advanced spot, so you’ll need your wits about you, but the conditions are looking prime. The water temperature is 63°, which is a whopping 4° warmer than usual for this time of year – that's a very noticeable anomaly, so you’re in for a treat warmth-wise.
Unfortunately, after that Thursday high, things go flat and ugly. From Friday the 3rd right through to Tuesday the 7th of July, the wind swings onshore from the south and southwest, making a mess of things. The swell drops off to around 4 ft to 6 ft, but the quality is shot – poor surf conditions are the call, with a couple of days even described as "very ordinary". It’s a real dry spell.
Now, we get a little reprieve. On Tuesday the 7th, Wednesday the 8th, and Thursday the 9th, the wind goes glassy or light cross-off, and we get clean 4 ft to 4 ft west swell with a period of 9 to 10 seconds. The energy is low (around 200 to 282 – weak), but for a shortboard or a fish, it’ll be fun and clean. The crowds are listed as "sometimes" for this spot, so you might have a few friends out. The water is still warm, but don't get too excited – these are marginal conditions at best.
Then, from Friday the 10th of July through to Sunday the 12th, it gets tiny again – 0.3 ft to 4 ft – with poor to ordinary conditions. Another gap of several days with no real recommendations.
Here’s where it gets interesting. Hold onto your board, because Monday the 13th of July looks like the real standout of the whole run. We’ve got a solid 7 ft west swell, but the period jumps to 12 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell with some grunt. The combined energy skyrockets to 1374 (strong) in the morning. This is excellent surf for experienced surfers, as the file itself states. The wind is a light, cross-off from the north. However, with that long period, this point break setup is perfect – it will wrap in and jack up nicely, but it could be a touch straight for a beachie. This is expert territory. After the morning, the swell holds at 7 ft for the afternoon, still with 1133 energy (strong). That’s the session to circle on your calendar.
The week after that from the 14th to the 17th of July sees the swell back down to 5 ft and then smaller, with clean but weaker conditions. There's a bit of a re-up on the 17th of July with a 7 ft west swell from a short-period (7-second) windswell, but the energy is moderate and the quality is only "expect good surf conditions". Nothing special after that Monday blast.
So your two best shots are: Thursday the 2nd of July for that clean, moderate swell, and Monday the 13th of July for the serious groundswell for the experts. The 13th is the one to make a plan for.
Rusty.
