Alright, let’s talk about Inch Reefs in feet and miles per hour.
Things are quiet to start. Friday the 3rd and the weekend have some swell, around 5 to 6 feet from the west-southwest, and the combined energy is moderate (501 and dropping). But the wind is onshore, ruining the surface. It’s a mess. Don’t bother.
Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th aren’t much better. Some cross-onshore wind and the swell fades. The energy is low to moderate. You’re just not gonna get a good wave.
Now, Wednesday morning the 8th: the wind goes glassy. The swell is small, right around 3 to 4 feet from the west, energy is low (172). But it’s clean, so if you want to mess around on a longboard, it’s an option. Thursday the 9th morning is better – still glassy, the swell is about 4 feet from the west, energy climbs to 231. That’s clean and fun. Friday the 10th morning is glassy again, with a 4-foot west swell and a period up to 11 seconds. Energy jumps to 350. That’s a good, clean session. That Friday is the first real standout of the run.
Then we hit flat. Saturday the 11th is a dud – no swell to speak of. Sunday the 12th has tiny, weak waves. But hold onto your board for Monday the 13th. Morning is glassy, swell is 5 feet from the west with a 12-second period, and energy is strong at 617. Afternoon stays glassy, 5 feet, 11 seconds, energy hits 690. That’s a beautiful groundswell with clean conditions for the reef. That’s your best day. Hands down.
Tuesday the 14th is decent – cross-off wind in the afternoon with a 5-foot west swell, energy at 518. Not as good as Monday, but still rideable. The rest of the week fades with weaker swells and stronger winds, so it falls apart.
Finally, Saturday the 18th brings a huge energy reading of 2875 and an 11-foot swell from the southwest. That’s too big for this spot. Only experts, and even then it’s sketchy. Not a day for most of us.
So here’s the take: Thursday the 9th morning is clean and small, but the absolute winner is Monday the 13th. Glassy, good groundswell, and plenty of energy. The water’s running at 63°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year. Worth noting.
