The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's check out the score at Inch Reefs.
Right off the bat, we're looking at a pretty bleak run of small, weak, and messy conditions. The first week is a write-off for any decent paddle surfing. The energy is just pathetic, with combined swell energy barely cracking 100 for most of the first few days, and the wind is a constant problem. It's a long wait for something that even looks like a wave.
We finally get a pulse of life on the morning of Wednesday the 26th of August. The swell jumps up to 6ft from the west, with a moderate energy reading. The wind is light and cross-offshore, which will clean things up nicely. That's a standout window, but it's a long way out. The afternoon of the 26th gets a bit messy with a cross-shore breeze and the swell drops a touch.
The end of the month, around the 30th and 31st of August, sees some serious size pumping in – we're talking 10ft to nearly 15ft from the west and west-northwest, with massive energy. However, this is a classic case of too much of a good thing. The forecast even says it's predicted to be too big for this break. This is an advanced spot in the best of times, but at that size, it’s for experts only, and the wind is onshore or cross-onshore, so it’ll be a full-on washing machine. Not a beginner's game.
The pick of the whole outlook, if you can wait, is the morning of Tuesday the 1st of September. A clean 4ft groundswell from the west, with glassy conditions. The energy is moderate, and the wind is dead calm. That’s the kind of morning that makes the wait worthwhile. After that, it drops back to small and ordinary.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a total bust. The 26th of August morning is a decent long-range hope, but the real standout is the glassy morning of the 1st of September. Everything else is either too small, too windy, or too big.
Rusty.
