Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s get into it. The next week and a half is a bit of a mixed bag, but there are a couple of windows worth getting excited about.
Right off the bat, Friday the 3rd has some swell around, but the wind is from the SSW at 9 mph, blowing straight onshore, and the conditions look pretty average. The break is Inch Reefs, a point break that needs the swell to come from the right direction—optimum is SW, but we’re getting a WSW swell at 5 ft with a 10-second period. The combined swell energy is moderate at 501. The water temperature is about average for the time of year.
Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th are similar stories—onshore wind and poor surf, so not much to get excited about. Monday the 6th is more of the same, with only 4 ft of wind swell and onshore wind.
Now, Tuesday the 7th is where it starts to turn. The wind goes glassy and light from the WNW in the morning, with the swell dropping to 4 ft from the west at 9 seconds. Combined energy is low at 187. It’s clean and surfable, but nothing special. Wednesday the 8th is also glassy in the morning with zero wind, but the swell is even smaller at 3 ft. It’s clean again, but you’ll be scratching for waves.
The first real standout comes on Thursday the 9th morning. The wind is dead calm—glassy as glass—and the swell is 4 ft from the west with a nice 10-second period. Combined energy is moderate at 236. The conditions are described as “expect good surf conditions.” This is the best it’s been so far. For a point like Inch Reefs, those long-period west swells can straighten out a bit, but the glassy wind makes it clean. Crowds are sometimes an issue here, so you might have some company.
Friday the 10th is another good one. The morning is cloudy, with the wind from the north at a mere 3 mph, glassy again. Swell is 4 ft from the west-northwest with a 11-second period, giving a combined energy of 354. The afternoon also looks clean with cross-offshore wind. This is your pick for the week.
The 11th of Friday is a dud—almost no swell.
Then on Sunday the 12th, we get a spike. The morning is glassy with 5 ft from the west at an 8-second period (combined energy 390), and “expect good surf conditions.” But the afternoon is something else. Swell jumps to 8 ft from the west, period 11 seconds, and the combined energy rockets to 1420. That’s strong to very strong. However, the wind goes cross-shore from the west-northwest at 6 mph, and the conditions are marked as “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions.” For experts, that afternoon session on the 12th could be a big one, but it’s not for the faint-hearted.
Monday the 13th still has good energy—8 ft at 11 seconds, combined energy 1347—but the wind is cross-onshore from the south, so it won’t be clean. Same for Tuesday the 14th, which drops off quickly.
Wednesday the 15th sees another pulse of 8 ft to 8 ft from the west-southwest at 9 seconds, combined energy over 1000, but again the wind is cross-onshore and strong from the south at 12 mph. Might be more interesting for kite-surfing than paddle surfing.
From the 16th onwards, it fades into weak, onshore slop through to the 18th of August.
Best bets: Thursday morning the 9th, and Friday morning the 10th for clean, fun waves. If you’re an expert, the afternoon of Sunday the 12th is your big chance, but keep an eye on those tides.
