The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Bundoran has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
Right now, we’re in a bit of a flat spell. The first few days are a write-off with tiny, onshore chop and nothing worth paddling out for. You’re looking at a gap of about three days before anything remotely rideable shows up.
Things finally start to turn on Monday the 24th. The morning brings in a clean 4ft swell out of the WNW, with an 11-second period. That’s a decent groundswell, and with a gentle cross-off breeze, the surface will be clean. The combined energy is moderate at 265. It’s not huge, but it’ll be fun. That afternoon holds a clean 3ft from the west with light offshore wind. This is your first real window.
The standout of the whole period looks to be Thursday the 27th. We’ve got a solid 7ft pulse from the WNW coming in the morning, with a moderate energy reading of 574. That’s a strong push of water. The wind is a light cross-off, keeping things clean. That’s a proper session for experienced surfers – it’s going to be powerful. The afternoon drops a bit to 6ft but stays clean. This is the best on offer.
After that, the wind gets messy again for a few days, but don’t write off Monday the 31st. Another solid 6ft groundswell from the west rolls in, with very light winds in the morning and a clean surface. The energy is strong again at 561. That morning session is a real gem if you can get on it.
The rest of the first week of September looks small and wind-affected, mostly onshore or choppy. There’s a blip of long-period, 12-second energy on Thursday the 3rd, but it’s tiny at 0.7ft and gets blasted by a fresh 19 mph onshore wind. Not worth it.
So, to sum it up: Monday the 24th is your starter, Thursday the 27th is the big dog for the experienced crew, and Monday the 31st is another clean, solid morning session. Get after it.
Rusty.
