The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk Bundoran. It’s a slow start, no point pretendin’ otherwise. The first few days are flat and ugly, so save your energy.
Sunday the 23rd is a dud – 0.7ft to 1ft of weak, short-period junk with energy from 10 to 26. Glassy in the mornin’, but there’s nothin’ to catch. Monday the 24th finally shows some life. The morning brings a clean 3ft swell from the WNW with an 11-second period and moderate energy (254). Cross-offshore wind from the ESE keeps it tidy. The afternoon holds clean at 4ft from the west with light offshore breezes. That’s your first real chance for a wave.
Tuesday the 25th drops back to 3ft in the mornin’, 2ft in the arvo. Moderate breeze cross-off winds. Energy falls to 118 then 59. Wednesday and Thursday are weak – 1ft to 2ft, with cross-off or light offshore winds, but barely any push. Friday the 28th is glassy in the morning but only 1ft from the NW with a short 7-second period. Not enough grunt.
Here’s the good news. The real standout is Wednesday the 2nd of September and Thursday the 3rd. Wednesday afternoon is an absolute beauty – 6ft from the west, 9-second period, strong wave energy (548). Winds are glass from the WSW. That’s perfect for intermediate surfers – clean, punchy, and smooth. Thursday morning delivers 6ft from the west with offshore SE winds and energy at 492. Clean and powerful. The afternoon on Thursday gets bigger at 7ft with strong cross-off winds (739 energy), so that’s only for experienced folks.
Friday the 4th has a clean 4ft morning (205 energy) – decent but nothin’ special. Saturday and Sunday fade again into smaller, weaker conditions.
Bundoran is a reef break, exposed to the NW. Water temp is about normal for the season. Crowds can show up sometimes, so if you’re aimin’ for that glassy Wednesday arvo, get in early. The 9-second swell we see on the 2nd and 3rd will give you good shape and energy.
Bottom line: Wednesday the 2nd of September afternoon and Thursday the 3rd morning are your best bets. The rest is small or choppy, but things can change, so keep checkin’ in.
