The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here again. Let’s break down this next stretch of surf. It’s a right proper tale of two weeks, and I ain't gonna sugarcoat the first half.
We’re starting off on Tuesday the 18th with a bump of swell, a little over 6ft, but the wind is 25 km/h from the west and it’s all cross-onshore. That means chop, bumps, and generally poor conditions. The water’s running real warm too, about 4°F above what’s normal for this time of year. That’s the big story for the water temp.
From there, it’s a whole lot of nothing. The swell drops off, the energy just dies, and we’re stuck with a lot of small, weak waves blown out by onshore winds. There are some clean windows with light offshore winds on the 24th and 25th, but the swell is tiny, barely breaking 3ft. You’ll be out there for the peace and quiet, not for the ride.
The one real standout is gonna be Wednesday the 2nd of September. We’ve got a new west-southwest swell coming in at around 6ft, with a middling energy reading of (357). The period is a short 8 seconds, so it won't have much push, but the winds look like they’ll be light. It’ll be your best chance for anything with a bit of shape.
There is a pulse a bit earlier, on the morning of the 29th of August. The swell hits a solid 6ft with a bigger energy (459), but the wind is showing a fresh and lumpy cross-onshore. It’s gonna be a messy one. That’s more for the kites and the diehards.
So, save your energy. The next ten days are a write-off. That long, flat gap is a real test. But come that Wednesday the 2nd, we might get something half-decent to surf. It’s a long way out, so don’t bet the farm, but it’s the only real light at the end of this tunnel.
Rusty.
