The Lowdown
Alright, listen up. The Atlantic’s got a bit of a foul mood right now. For the first stretch, we’re looking at a lot of junky, cross-onshore slop. Don't even bother waxing up for a few days; there's a proper dry spell hanging over us. It's gonna be a blank run for a while.
The first blip of anything half-interesting comes on Monday the 24th of August, but even that is a question mark. There’s a bit of energy (466) pushing through, but it’s not going to be pretty. We’re in for a wait of about five days with nothing worth a hoot.
Then comes Tuesday the 25th with a proper offshore wind, but sadly, the swell is gutless, only 2 feet. It’ll be clean and glassy, but it’s not going to get anyone too excited.
Now, here’s the good stuff. The last couple of days of August are where the magic happens. Saturday the 29th is the standout. We’re talking a serious pulse of energy (1583) with a clean offshore wind in the arvo. This swell is pushing 8 feet, coming from the WNW. This is a proper, raw Atlantic grinding session. It’s a powerful one, so maybe not for the faint of heart. Then, Sunday the 30th looks even cleaner with a lighter offshore breeze and a solid 6 feet of WNW swell (518). That could be the pick of the bunch. A bit more manageable and likely to hold its shape. That's the one to write home about.
Rolling into September, the first brings a long-period groundswell with size, but there’s a cross-shore wind that’ll put some chop on the face. It’s big, in the 7-foot range, and for the experts, there’s definitely some juice, but it won’t be pristine. It’s a sign that the autumn push is on its way.
So, stay patient. The end of the month is looking like the real deal. Water temp is about normal, so you won’t need the thickest suit just yet.
