Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bundoran over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Bundoran has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you – it’s a slow start. We’re looking at a long, quiet run before anything gets going.
The first ten days or so are pretty flat. From now through to the 25th of July, the surf is tiny, mostly under 2ft, with weak energy readings mostly between 5 and 53 (very weak). The wind is often cross-off or onshore, and while there are a few glassy moments on the 21st, 23rd, 24th, and 25th, there’s just not enough swell to make it worth paddling out. It’s a long gap with no real recommendations, so don’t bother bringing your board just yet.
Things finally start to wake up around the 26th of July. By Sunday morning, we see a jump to 4ft from the WNW, with a moderate 8-second period. The combined energy hits 180 (moderate wave energy), but the wind is cross-shore and messy. It’s a building phase, and conditions aren’t clean.
The best of the whole window looks like it’ll be the 27th of July. That Monday afternoon, the wind goes glassy, and we get a 4ft swell from the west with an 8-second period. The energy reading is a solid 191 (moderate wave energy), and it’s the first time we get a surfable wave with clean conditions. For an intermediate, this is your moment. It’s not huge, but it’s rideable and clean. The morning has that same swell size but with a strong cross-off wind and risk of thunderstorms, so stick to the afternoon glass-off.
Then on the 28th of July, Tuesday morning, a bigger pulse comes through: 6ft from the WNW with a long 12-second period. That’s a groundswell, with very strong energy at 921. However, the wind is a moderate cross-onshore, making it choppy. This one is for experts only, as it’s pushing 6ft and the conditions aren’t clean.
So, if you want a wave, pencil in the late afternoon of Monday the 27th. It’s the cleanest, most surfable option in an otherwise quiet outlook. The water temperature is about average for the time of year.
Stay tuned, the long-range stuff could change, but for now, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
