The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's break down the Bundoran outlook for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, the whole 16-day window is lookin' pretty bleak. There's a massive gap of over a week with no surf worth paddling out for. The first real chance of anything decent doesn't show up until Monday, the 24th of August afternoon.
The early days are all cross-onshore winds and lumpy, choppy slop. Tuesday the 18th starts with a 5ft W swell, but with a fresh 19 mph cross-on wind, it's just blown out. The water's a warm 63°, which is *much warmer than normal* for this time of year, but that's the only positive.
The week drags on with tiny, weak waves. The combined swell energy drops right off – we're talkin' readings down in the double digits – just a sad, flat spell. The wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, keeping everything messy.
Now, there is a little flare-up on Monday afternoon, the 24th. A 4ft W swell rolls in with a 10-second period, and the wind swings to a gentle offshore from the SSE. That's the standout of the whole period. The energy picks up pretty good, too. For a few hours, it'll be clean and rideable at the reef. But don't get your hopes up too high – it's a one-off. The next day, the 25th, sees a moderate offshore wind again, but the swell drops to 2ft, so it's nothing special.
After that, we're back to tiny, weak energy. The end of the month and into September is just a write-off. There's a moment of glassy conditions on the 31st, but the swell is only 2ft, so it's a lake. The last few days of the forecast are a fresh, lumpy cross-onshore mess.
The only real shout for a wave here is the Bundoran (reef) on Monday afternoon, the 24th. It's the only time the wind and swell line up for anything clean. Enjoy it if you can, because it's a lonely standout.
Rusty.
