Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's on offer. I've got the gen on Mullaghmore, and to be straight with you, it's a tough read for the next couple of weeks. We're looking at a real dry spell.
The main issue is the swell. For our top spot, Mullaghmore, which is a heavy reef set-up (Ireland), we need a decent sized, clean NW swell to get it working properly. The forecast over the next 16 days just doesn't have the juice. There's no stand-out swell window to get excited about; it's mostly tiny, weak, and unsurfable. The water temp is sitting at 61°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won't freeze while you're staring at flat ocean.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are the only real options, but they're not good. On Thursday morning, we've got a tiny 3ft W swell with a short period of 9 seconds, so the energy is weak (133). The wind is cross-off and then goes glassy in the afternoon, which would normally be perfect, but the swell is just too small and weak to make it worthwhile. Friday morning has a slightly longer period of 11 seconds from the WNW with moderate energy (184), but the wind is onshore, so it's going to be messy.
From the 11th of July onward, the combined energy readings drop into double and single digits—anything under 100 is just flat. The swell never breaks the 3ft mark for the rest of the outlook, and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-on. Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd show a tiny bump, with a NW swell up to 3ft, but the period is super short at 6 seconds, and the wind is onshore, so forget it. That's not surf, that's just lake chop.
Honestly, there's nothing here to recommend. This is a blank run for the area, and it looks like it's going to stay that way for a while. Keep an eye on the charts, because it usually doesn't stay this poor for long, but for now, bring the fishing rod.
Rusty.
