Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tullaghan (Leitrim) over the next 16 days.

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s see what this stretch of the Irish coast has in store for us. I’ll be straight with you – it’s a bit of a slow grind for the most part, but there’s a little window of hope if you’re patient.
We’re looking at a long, quiet start. Honestly, from now until well into the third week of July, the surf is tiny. We’re talking ankle to shin-high slop at best, with the odd pulse of energy but nothing that’s going to get you out of bed. The wind is often cross-off or light, but the swell just isn’t there. The water is sitting at a very unusual 62° – that’s a good 4° warmer than normal for this time of year, which is a real talking point. It feels like a bath out there, but with no waves to enjoy it.
The first real sign of life shows up around the 23rd of July. Thursday afternoon, the swell at Tullaghan (Leitrim) bumps up to 4ft from the W, with a period of 9 seconds. The energy jumps to a moderate 252, but it’s coming with a fresh cross-onshore, making it choppy. The conditions are poor, but it’s a step up from nothing. Friday the 24th keeps that 4ft to 4ft W swell rolling, with moderate energy (187-212), but again, the wind is on it – cross-onshore and onshore, keeping it messy.
The standout for this whole period, and I mean the only one worth circling on your calendar, is Saturday the 25th of July. The swell drops back a touch to 3ft from the W, but the wind switches to a light E, 10 km/h, giving us a clean, cross-off breeze. The energy is a moderate 137. It’s not going to be a world-class day, but it’s surfable and the conditions will be clean. It’s the best on offer by a long shot, just don’t expect perfection.
After that, Sunday the 26th gets blown out by a fresh 19 mph ESE wind, and the surf fades. Monday the 27th brings a glassy 3ft to 3ft WNW swell with a gentle offshore or cross-off, and the energy is moderate (108-144). It’s surfable, but very ordinary. Tuesday the 28th looks like it gets messy again with a cross-on wind and showers.
So, the bottom line: a whole lot of waiting for a very small window. The best surf is that Saturday the 25th – clean, small, but it’s our only real chance. Pray for a change in the long-range.
Rusty.
