Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kilcummin Harbour over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you about Kilcummin Harbour for the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a long, quiet stretch before anything remotely worth paddling out for shows up. The water’s sitting at 60°F which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so don’t expect any surprises there.
Right now and for the first solid week, it’s pretty bleak. From Sunday the 12th through to Monday the 20th, the swell is tiny—0.7ft to 3ft at best—with weak wave energy in the 15 to 101 range. Winds are mostly cross or onshore, and the conditions are labelled “poor” across the board. There’s no real surf on offer for about nine days. You’d be better off doing something else.
Now, things finally start to stir a little on Tuesday the 21st. Tuesday morning brings glassy conditions under a light WNW breeze, with 3ft swell from the west at 9 seconds and moderate energy (117). It’s surfable but very ordinary. The afternoon looks better: 4ft from the WNW at 9 seconds, clean cross-off wind from the WSW, energy jumps to 206, and the call is “expect good surf conditions.” That’s the first real glimpse of something worthwhile.
Wednesday the 22nd morning gets a bit punchy with 6ft from the WNW at 10 seconds, but a moderate cross-shore breeze and a cross-chop make it marginal—energy is a strong 603, but it’s messy. Afternoon drops to 5ft and the same cross-chop issue.
Thursday the 23rd morning has a fresh offshore from the SSE at 22 mph and 4ft from the WNW at 9 seconds, energy 327, but the forecast is only marginal. The afternoon sees 7ft from the NW at a short 8 seconds, clean cross-off, energy 572—again, just marginal. That’s getting into the too-big-for-beginners range.
Friday the 24th is rough: 6ft from the NW at 8 seconds with a fresh cross-onshore, lumpy, and poor. Saturday the 25th is cleaner but still on the small side with 3ft to 4ft and fresh cross-off winds—energy around 310, but not really inspiring.
The standout period looks like Sunday the 26th morning. That’s your best bet. You’ve got a moderate offshore from the SSW at 12 mph, 5ft from the west at 8 seconds, energy at 334, and it’s labelled “expect good surf conditions.” Clean, offshore, solid waist-to-chest high waves. It won’t be perfect but it’s the most promising window across the whole outlook. That one deserves a look. After that, Monday the 27th drops back to small and mediocre.
So overall, there’s a long dry spell, then a brief window around Tuesday the 21st afternoon, but the real highlight is Sunday the 26th morning. Get on it if you can.
Rusty.
