Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kilcummin Harbour over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what we've got on the cards for the next couple of weeks around here.
Right off the bat, I’m not gonna lie to you—this is a tough stretch. We’ve got a real dry spell ahead, especially for any decent surf. The only real window we have is right at the start, and it’s a narrow one on Thursday, the 9th of July. Kilcummin Harbour will see a clean, rideable swell coming out of the west at 4 ft, with a period of 9 seconds. The water’s sitting at 60°, which is a touch warmer than average for this time of year, so that’s a nice bonus. Thursday morning starts with a light offshore breeze, and by the afternoon it goes glassy. It’s not huge, but it’ll be clean and fun. The combined swell energy is moderate at around 269. It’s a reef break that’s fairly consistent, so you’ll get waves, but it can get a few people out there.
Now, the bad news. After Thursday, the wheels fall off. From Friday the 10th of July all the way through to the end of the forecast, it’s basically a write-off. The wind turns onshore and gets strong, the swell drops to knee-shredding levels, and the quality goes out the window. We get a few days of cross-shore junk, and then a whole lot of howling northerly wind piling into it. Even when the swell tries to pick up again around the 20th–23rd of July, the wind is just straight up messy—onshore, cross-onshore, lumpy, choppy. There’s one spike of 5 ft on Tuesday the 21st, but it’s wind-affected, short-period stuff (7 seconds) with a combined energy of 217, which isn’t bad energy-wise, but the wind’s gonna trash it. That’s strictly for the hardcore crew who don't mind a wrestle. The rest of the time, the combined energy is weak, mostly below 100.
So to sum it up: your one and only standout is Thursday morning, the 9th of July at Kilcummin Harbour (Kilcummin-Harbour). It’s brief, it’s the only clean shot we get. After that, the gear goes back in the van for at least a week or more. Sometimes the forecasts shift, but for now, if you want a paddle, you better be there Thursday.
Rusty.
