Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the local forecast for Carrowmore. I’ll be straight with you – this is a tough run. The whole 16-day outlook is a dry spell, with no real surf to get excited about. We’re looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak waves and poor conditions, so don’t be in a rush to wax up.

The water is sitting at 60°F which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, but that’s about the only positive.

Starting from Thursday, July 9th, we’ve got a small 2ft swell from the west with a short period of 9 seconds and very weak energy (41). The wind is a cross-off from the southwest at 9 mph, but the surf is just too poor to bother with. This limp pattern continues right through the rest of the week and into the next. Friday and Saturday see even smaller waves, around 1.0ft to 1ft, with onshore or cross-on breezes messing up what little is there.

From Sunday, July 12th, it gets even more pathetic. Waves drop to 0.7ft or less, with energy readings in the single digits. The wind stays cross or cross-on, mostly from the east and then shifting north-northwest, but it doesn’t matter – there’s no power behind anything. The swell period does jump to 14-19 seconds on the 13th and 15th, but with wave heights of just 0.3ft, it’s a ghost swell. No push, no shape.

We run through the entire second week with the same story: tiny 0.3ft to 0.7ft waves, weak energy (mostly under 10), and persistent cross-onshore winds. The wind picks up to 12-16 mph at times, making it choppy and unattractive. There’s a slight uptick on July 21st and 22nd with a 2ft swell from the north and north-northwest, but the period is a pitiful 3 seconds. That’s windswash, not surf.

The last days of the outlook, into July 23rd and 24th, tail off into nothing – 0.3ft waves and barely any energy. She’s flat.

There is no standout session here, not a single one. The best you could hope for is a rare, inconsistent bump that might be rideable for a beginner on a foamie, but the quality is just not there. For the rest of us, it’s a blank run. This is one of those periods where the forecast can change, but right now, it’s a solid no-go. Keep the board in the car and wait for the next system.

Rusty.
