Mullranny Pier Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. The next 16 days are looking pretty bleak for a proper surf. We’ve got a whole lot of nothing on the horizon, with only a tiny window of hope way out there. It’s one of those times where you might be better off checking the tide pools or just enjoying the view.

Looking at the whole stretch, the surf is almost non-existent for the first week-and-a-half, with waves struggling to even get to your knees. The winds are mostly cross or onshore, which will chop up any of the small bumps that do roll in. There’s a brief window around the 10th where it goes glassy, but there’s simply no swell behind it.

The only real, solid pulse of energy shows up in the middle of the month, around the 14th and 15th. That's when things get interesting, but it’s a long way off, so treat it as promising but not locked in. For the rest of the time, we are looking at a whole lot of small, weak, and unappealing conditions.

We’ll start with the early part. From now through the 13th, it’s tiny. The swell heights are stuck under 1.5ft, and the combined energy is just a whisper, mostly in the single digits to low 30s (weak energy). The wind is mostly cross or cross-on, which isn't doing us any favors. There's a moment on the 10th with zero wind and glassy conditions, but the surf is only 1.3ft, so it's just a pond. Not worth getting wet for.

Now, for the standout of the period, we have to jump ahead to Mullranny Pier on Friday the 14th. The swell finally shows up, coming from the WSW at 4.3ft in the morning, climbing to 4.6ft in the afternoon. The combined energy jumps up to 264 and 341 (moderate wave energy), which is the most we see all window. The period is a modest 9 seconds, so it’s not going to be a monster, but it will at least have some push. The wind is light cross-onshore from the WSW, so there will be a little texture, but it's rideable.

The next morning, Saturday the 15th, is also worth a look. The swell drops a touch to 3.9ft, but the wind swings to a light cross-offshore from the WNW. That will clean it right up, making for a much better shape. Combined energy is still respectable at 276 (moderate wave energy). This might be the pick of the bunch, especially if that offshore holds.

Remember, this is a point break that's inconsistent, so those good waves might have some long waits between sets. But when they come, they could be fun. It’s advanced, so not one for the learners. The water temp is about 61°, which is a couple degrees warmer than average for this time of year, so it’s not too bad.

After that, the swell fades fast. By the 16th, we're back down to 1ft and the 17th is more of the same. The 18th and 19th are back to tiny, windblown slop. There’s nothing else on the horizon that looks worth your time.

So, there you have it. The 14th and the morning of the 15th are your best bets. Score a few if you can. The rest of the time, it might be a good idea to wax the board, fix a fin, or just enjoy the time off. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a waiting game.
