The Lowdown
Right, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough outlook. For the next 16 days, the surf is looking pretty grim. The only break we’ve got on the radar is Mulranny - Pink Rock, and it’s a tricky one. You’re looking at a long, dry spell here. From now until at least the 19th of August, every single session is marked as poor surf conditions. We’re not talking about a day or two of flatness; we’re looking at a solid two-week stretch with nothing worthwhile.
The main issue is that the swell is tiny and the wind is almost always wrong. For a spot that’s sheltered and needs a west swell, we’re stuck with a lot of cross-shore and cross-onshore wind that just chops everything up. It’s an advanced break that’s already inconsistent, so this run of bad luck is pretty normal for the area. The water temp is about 61°, which is pretty average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
There’s a tiny glimmer on the horizon, but it’s a long way off. On the 13th of August, Thursday morning, we get a little pulse of 3 ft from the west with a period of 8 seconds, and the wind is a light cross-offshore from the NNW. That’s the cleanest looking window we’ve got, with a combined energy of 86 (weak). It’s not much, but it’s the best of a bad bunch. The 14th of August also has a couple of clean, light breeze sessions, but again, the swell is tiny at 2 ft.
So, the honest truth? There’s no standout. The best you can hope for is a tiny, clean wave on the 13th or 14th of August, but even then, it’s for experts only. Everyone else, save your energy. Forecasts can change, but right now, this is a long stretch of flatness.
Rusty.
