Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s cooking for the next sixteen days.
First up: there’s no surf worth mentioning until at least the second week. We’ve got a long stretch of flat or poor conditions ahead. The only break in the game is Crab Island (Clare), a heavy reef that needs a solid west swell. But the conditions are working against it.
We kick off on Tuesday the 7th of July with a west swell around 4ft, period 9 seconds. Water temp is 61°F, about a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s nice, but the wind’s blowing from the WSW at 12 mph, cross-on, making it choppy. Energy is moderate (209), but the score is zero. That pattern holds through Thursday the 9th – some size, but always cross-on wind, always poor.
Friday the 10th sees the swell drop to around 2ft, period stretches to 11 seconds – more of a groundswell – and the wind swings light cross-shore from the NNW at just 3 mph. Energy is moderate (206), but the wave height is small. It’s marginal. After that, the swell collapses. From Saturday the 11th through Tuesday the 14th, we’re talking waves under 2ft, mostly 0.3ft to 2ft. Energy drops into double and single digits – that’s weak. There’s a brief moment on Tuesday morning the 14th with 2ft and offshore wind, but not enough power for Crab Island.
From Wednesday the 15th onward, it’s basically flat. Tiny waves, barely a bump. The combined energy figures are below 30 most days. Thursday the 16th has a period of 14 seconds but with only 0.3ft of swell, it’s not going to break. Glassy conditions that morning (3 mph from the west), but no wave to ride.
There’s a slight return of energy on Wednesday the 22nd of July, with 3ft from the WNW, period 7 seconds, and cross-offshore winds. Energy hits 121, which is moderate. That afternoon the wind turns cross-on and it gets choppy again. So if you’re keen, that morning might give you something small and clean, but it’s only for the dedicated and the experienced.
Bottom line: over these sixteen days, there’s no standout session. Everything’s tiny, or blown out, or both. The forecast confidence is solid for the near term, and it’s telling it like it is – there’s nothing to get excited about. Keep watching the charts, but for now, we wait.
