Table - best surf conditions forecast for Crab Island over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, let's call it what it is. The next 16 days at Crab Island look like a write-off. There's no session to get excited about, no day that's screaming at you to paddle out. It's a long, dry spell.
The first chance is Thursday morning, July 9th. The water's a touch warmer than average, about 1°F above normal for this time of year, sitting at 61°F. But the surf is poor. We're looking at a 4ft swell from the west with a 9-second period, and a cross-onshore breeze. The energy is weak to moderate (196). Not worth the effort.
Friday morning, July 10th, is the best we're going to get. The swell drops to 3ft, but it shifts to the west-northwest with a longer 11-second period. The wind is a light offshore from the north-northeast. The forecast says "expect good surf conditions," and the energy is moderate (241). For a reef break, that long-period groundswell with light offshore wind will be the cleanest it gets. But it's tiny. A long-period swell on a reef can be a bit tricky, but it might offer a few lined-up, shoulder-high waves.
After that, it's a ghost town. From Saturday, July 11th, all the way through to Wednesday, July 22nd, the swell barely gets above 3ft, and it's mostly blown out by cross-onshore winds. The energy readings are mostly in the double digits (14 to 89), which is just weak. There's a tiny pulse on the 19th with a 2ft west swell and moderate energy (105), but it's Saturday morning with a cross-off breeze, and the next day it's back to poor. The wind is all over the place, mostly from the north-east, but it's just not enough.
From Wednesday, July 22nd, we get a tiny uptick. The swell is 3ft from the west with a 9-second period. The energy is moderate (125) and the wind is a light offshore. It's "surfable but very ordinary." That's the best we can say. The 23rd and 24th of July are much the same story: small, weak, and mostly blown out.
So, there you have it. Your best bet is a tiny, clean window on Friday morning, July 10th. If you're dying for a paddle, you might get a few knee-high ones. For the rest of the 16 days, it's a flat spell. The forecast can change, and this spot is consistent, so it won't be like this forever. But for now, save your gas. This is one of those normal blank runs for the area.
