Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rossbeigh Strand over the next 16 days.
Right, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks. To be honest, it’s a bit of a slow start, but there’s a serious pulse of energy brewing if you can wait it out.
The first proper surfable days are a long way off, with a big gap of nothing much from now until around the 20th of July. You’ll be looking at tiny, sloppy conditions for the best part of a week and a half, with the odd day offering surfable but very ordinary waves. The water temperature is a solid 65°F and sitting about 5°F warmer than normal for the time of year, so that’s a nice treat if you’re in the water.
The first hint of something bigger arrives on Monday the 20th of July at Rossbeigh Strand. The swell jumps up to 6ft early, building to 7ft by the afternoon, coming from the WNW. The cross-onshore wind is a bit of a letdown, and the combined energy is moderate to strong (333 – 657). It’s not the cleanest setup, but it’s a sign of the change to come.
Tuesday the 21st of July is where the size really starts to crank. Morning sees 8ft, afternoon 8ft, still from the WNW. The combined energy is strong (995 – 1083) and the wind remains light cross-onshore. This is proper power for the experienced crew; beginners should stay well clear at this size.
The standout – and I mean the real standout – is Wednesday the 22nd of July. The swell pumps up to a massive 16ft early and 15ft in the afternoon, from the WNW and NW respectively. Period is a solid 11 seconds, packing a combined energy reading of 5755 – that’s a colossal amount of power. The wind is light and onshore, which is a bit of a shame for the face, but the main issue is that this is simply too big for Rossbeigh Strand. It’s a spectacle for experts only, and even then, the raw power will be intimidating. This is a day for the brave and the well-prepared.
Things drop off just as fast. Thursday the 23rd of July is back to flat, tiny 0.3ft slop, and small, messy, onshore wind chop hangs around for the rest of the week. The surf runs out of steam completely after that big pulse.
So, to sum it up: the first week and a half is a write-off. The one true standout is Wednesday the 22nd of July, but it’s so big it’s a borderline no-go for the break itself. If you’re an expert looking for a challenge, that’s your day. For everyone else, keep an eye on the forecasts after that, because a change is coming.
Rusty.
