Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rossbeigh Strand over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Right now, things are flat as a pancake. There’s no real surf to speak of for the rest of this week and into next week. The first proper bump doesn’t show up until the morning of Saturday the 22nd of July, so we’re looking at a long stretch of small, weak, and pretty hopeless conditions before that.
The First Surge: Saturday 22nd & Thursday 23rd July
We finally see a pulse of swell on the morning of Saturday the 22nd. It’s nothing to write home about, with waves around 4ft from the WNW, and the energy is only moderate (212). But the wind is completely dead – glassy – which will make for a beautiful, clean surface. The swell period is a short 9 seconds though, so it won’t have much punch. This is a beginner-friendly size but the lack of power means it might be a bit soft. The water temp is sitting at 64°F which is over 5°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s very unusual, so you can get away with a thinner wettie.
Thursday the 23rd morning is similar: about 3ft from the west, with an equally weak energy (171) but again, glassy wind. Another clean, small morning session.
The Big One: Friday 24th July – For Experts Only
Here’s the standout, and it’s a doozy. On the morning of Friday the 24th of July, the swell absolutely fires up. We’re looking at a very solid 13ft from the WNW, and the combined energy is massive (2530). The wind is glassy. But, and this is a big but, that’s way too much size for this spot. This is a beach break setup, and at that height it goes from fun to dangerous. It’s strictly for hard-core experts only. If you’re not one of them, stay on the sand and watch.
The Weekend Window: Sunday 26th July
After that giant swell, things settle down but still offer a solid option. On the morning of Sunday the 26th, we get a much more manageable 5ft from the NW, with a clean, glassy surface. The swell energy is still strong (735). It’s right at the top end of what a confident intermediate could handle, but it’s clean and powerful. The morning is the pick here; the afternoon gets a bit messy with some rain showers and the swell bumps up to 8ft, which pushes it into expert territory again.
Full verdict:
If you’re an expert, the morning of Friday the 24th is the absolute best of the whole run – huge, clean, powerful waves. For everyone else, the glassy mornings of Saturday 22nd and Thursday 23rd are your best bets for some clean, small waves. The Sunday the 26th morning is also a very good option for stronger paddlers. Just know there’s a long dry spell before any of this happens.
Rusty.
