Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here, checking in with a look at what’s happening for the next couple of weeks at Rossbeigh Strand.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but the back half of the first week is where the magic’s hiding. The water's sitting at 63°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the thick wetsuit at home. The combined swell energy is in the moderate range for most of the run, peaking at 383.
Honestly, the first few days are pretty lackluster. Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th are a write-off with small, cross-on wind slop. Not worth paddling out for. Things start to look a little better on Tuesday morning the 7th with clean, offshore winds and a waist-high, 4ft swell from the west at 10 seconds. The combined energy is a moderate 235, but it’s still just ordinary.
Wednesday morning the 8th serves up glassy conditions with a 4ft west swell, but the energy is a bit lower at 214. It’s surfable, but nothing to write home about. Now, Thursday the 9th is where it starts to get interesting. The morning is absolutely glassy with zero wind, a 4ft west swell, and the combined energy ramping up to 276. That’s a good chance for some fun, clean lines before the wind kicks up in the afternoon. That’s our first real standout.
Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th see a shift to cross-shore winds that chop things up, so not the best. The swell hangs in there, but it’s messy.
Now, looking ahead, Tuesday the 14th is another one to circle on the calendar. The morning is dead glassy, zero wind, with a 3ft west swell running at a 10-second period and a combined energy of 275. That’s clean, waist-high potential with no crowds mentioned, so you might have the place to yourself. That’s your second standout.
After that, the surf really drops off hard. From Wednesday the 15th onward, we’re looking at tiny, weak waves with combined energy readings dropping to triple and double digits. The last week of this outlook is a real dud, with swells barely reaching ankle-high. Best to save your energy for that Thursday the 9th and Tuesday the 14th.
Rusty, signing off.
