Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s shaping up for Rossbeigh Strand.
We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag ahead. The first few days are surfable, but it’s not until Wednesday morning that things really come together for a proper session. After that, the waves drop right off, and we are looking at a long, dry spell right through to mid-July, so make the most of the early action.
Tuesday morning (7th July) kicks things off, but it’s pretty marginal with weak 4ft swell from the west and light onshore wind. The combined energy is only 281 (moderate). It's not worth getting too excited about. The afternoon is similar, a touch bigger at 4ft from the WNW and cross-on, with light wind ripples. No good.
Wednesday morning (8th July) is the standout of this whole run. The wind goes glassy, dead calm, and we get a clean 4ft ground swell from the west with a 10-second period. The combined energy is up to 313 (moderate). It’s a beginner-friendly height and the water temp is about average for this time of year. Get out there early. The afternoon goes onshore again, so that morning window is your best bet.
Thursday morning (9th July) sees a bump in swell size to 5ft from the west, with a period of 9 seconds and the combined energy climbing to 373 (moderate). It’s still surfable for most, but that cross-onshore wind from the WSW will put some bumps on the face. Not as clean as Wednesday.
Friday morning (10th July) is promising with a clean 3ft swell from the WNW and a 11-second period. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the NNE, keeping things tidy. Combined energy is 346 (moderate). A good option if you want a smaller, cleaner wave. The afternoon gets a cross-shore breeze, so stick to the morning.
After that, Saturday (11th July) drops right off into the dirt. Saturday morning is only 3ft and the energy falls to 173 (weak). From Saturday afternoon onward, it’s a long stretch of nothing worth paddling for. We’re talking about a solid week or more of flat, poor conditions right through to Wednesday morning (22nd July) , when a 3ft WSW groundswell with a 10-second period and clean cross-offshore wind finally shows up, with the combined energy at 243 (moderate). It’s ordinary but surfable, a sign that the blank run might be ending.
So, your one true standout is Wednesday morning, 8th July. Glassy, clean, decent waist-to-chest high swell. That’s the one to circle. Everything after the first weekend is a write-off until the very end of the forecast.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
