Table - best surf conditions forecast for Annascaul Rivermouth over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you about what’s on the table at Annascaul Rivermouth. We’re looking at a full 16-day window, and to be honest, the surf just isn’t firing. There’s a long stretch of flat, small, or messy conditions ahead, so don’t get your hopes up for any proper rides.
For the first week and a half, from now right through to the 24th of July, the swell is tiny. We’re talking ankle to knee-high at best. The combined wave energy is weak, sitting under 100 for most of the first week and only occasionally bumping into low triple digits (like 122) on the morning of the 14th, but even then the swell height is just 2 feet and the period is short at 10 seconds. The wind is mostly offshore or cross-offshore through the first few days, which would be nice if there was any wave to surf. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual there.
Around the 20th of July, the swell does pick up a little, with combined energy hitting 194 on Monday morning and 279 on the 21st morning, but the wind turns nasty, coming straight cross-onshore from the west at 18-31 mph. That makes the surf messy and choppy. The swell height reaches 4 feet on the 21st morning, but the wind will ruin the shape. It’s a beach-and-river-mouth setup, and with that much wind on it, it’s honestly looking more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Further out, on the morning of the 26th of July, we see a little pulse of 4 feet swell from the west-southwest with a short period of just 5 seconds, but the wind is cross-offshore. The combined energy is only 80, so it’s weak. Nothing here is going to get your heart racing.
There are no standout days. The only real window of hope is the morning of the 14th (Tuesday) with a clean, light offshore wind and a 2 feet swell, but it’s gutless. If you’re desperate for a splash, that’s your best bet, but it’s a long way from good. For the rest, you’re better off waiting for the next proper swell to roll in. Forecasts can change, but this run looks pretty sandy.
Stay tuned, and keep your chin up. It won't be flat forever.
