Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for Magheraroarty Strand. It’s looking pretty flat out there, so we're dealing with a long stretch of nothing much to get excited about.
Right now, and for the next several days, it’s a write-off. The real issue is the wind. Tuesday and Wednesday have a strong onshore element with 6ft to 6ft of wind-affected swell, but it’s a cross-offshore breeze that’s chopping it all up and making for poor surf conditions. The combined swell energy is moderate at best, hitting 475 on Tuesday morning. Frankly, it's not worth paddling out.
There is a faint pulse of longer-period swell arriving Friday the 10th, with the swell coming from the west-northwest at 5ft to 5ft and a period of 10 to 11 seconds. However, the wind is blowing straight onshore from the north to north-northeast, so it’s going to be a messy, blown-out affair. The combined energy is 457, which suggests there's some power there, but the wind will kill any quality.
After that, the surf just dribbles away. From Saturday the 11th through the entire second week, we're looking at tiny, weak waves. The swell drops below 2ft, with periods as low as 3 seconds and combined energy figures falling into the double digits, like 30 or 15. That’s teacup territory. The winds do occasionally look clean or glassy, like on Friday the 17th with an offshore flow or even glassy conditions, but there’s simply no swell to ride. You’d be floating on a mill pond.
Honestly, there is no standout session in this entire 16-day window. Magheraroarty is an exposed point that loves a good north-northwest swell, but we’re not getting one. The forecast is pretty grim, with consistent "poor surf conditions" across the board. With the combined wave energy staying under 100 for most of the second week, the setup is more interesting for a picnic on the sand than a surf. There's nothing here to get the heart rate up. It's a blank run for the area.
Rusty.
