Table - best surf conditions forecast for Magheraroarty Strand over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ at Magheraroarty Strand.
Straight up, we’re in for a pretty grim stretch. The first two weeks of this 16-day window are basically a write-off, so don’t even bother waxing up your board just yet. There’s a solid 13-day gap with no real surf to speak of – from Friday the 10th right through to Wednesday the 22nd, it’s all poor surf conditions with weak, choppy, and cross-shore junk. The combined energy sits under 400 (395) at best early on, and drops to barely a ripple in the 20s and 30s. Winds are mostly onshore or cross-onshore, ruining what little shape there is. Water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing wild.
Things finally start to look up on the afternoon of Tuesday the 21st of July. We get a tiny pulse of clean, surfable surf – only 2 ft from the west at 8 seconds, but with a light cross-offshore breeze from the WSW. The combined energy is just 66, so it’s real small, but it’s clean. Then Wednesday the 22nd stays clean with a cross-offshore wind, but the swell is still pretty weak.
Now, the real standout is Thursday the 23rd of July. That morning, the swell jumps to 8 ft from the west, with a period of 10 seconds and a combined energy of 2409. That’s a serious pulse of moderate-to-strong wave energy. The wind is cross-offshore from the SSW at 25 km/h, keeping it clean. But here’s the catch – this is a beginner-friendly break, and 8 ft is too big for beginners. It’s pushing into expert territory. The wind and tide are favorable, but the swell is predicted to be too big for this break. Friday the 24th is similar, with 8 ft and clean cross-offshore winds, but again, it’s oversized for the spot.
The best bet for the whole window is Saturday the 25th of July. The morning brings a solid 6 ft swell from the west, 10-second period, with a combined energy of 725 (moderate). The wind is offshore from the SSW at 25 km/h, which is a dream. Expect very good surf conditions. That’s the one to circle on the calendar. It’s a week and a half out, so keep an eye on it, but right now it’s the only true standout.
Rusty.
