Table - best surf conditions forecast for Magheraroarty Strand over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for this stretch. Straight up, this is going to be a tough one. For the next couple of weeks, we’re looking at a pretty barren run, with only a brief window of something that might be worth paddling out for. The swell energy starts off moderate at 530, but it comes with a lot of wind that just won’t cooperate.
Alright, so the only spot in the game is Magheraroarty Strand. The water temp is sitting at 58°, which is about normal for this time of year – nothing wild there.
We get a pulse of swell on Tuesday the 7th of July with 6ft from the west, but the wind is a 19 mph cross-off from the southwest. It’s clean, but those are survival conditions, not fun conditions. The wave energy is moderate at 530, but it’s just too blown out to be any good for a paddle.
The rest of that first week and the entire second week are pretty much a write-off. We drop into weak, small surf from Wednesday the 8th onwards, with the swell dropping below 3ft and most days getting zero scores. The winds are a mess – mostly cross-on or onshore, and the combined wave energy drops into the double digits (20 to 66), just weak and messy.
There is one glimmer, way out on Sunday the 19th of July. We get a 3ft northwesterly swell with light SSW winds going glassy in the morning. The energy is moderate at 118. This is the one standout in the whole 16-day window. It’s clean, it’s small, and it’s the only time you’ll get a proper glassy surface. It’ll be tiny, but for a longboard or a funboard, that Sunday morning session is your only real shot. Just keep in mind this spot is pretty inconsistent, so it’s a welcome sight. After that, it’s back to small, weak, and windy.
So the call is: don’t hold your breath. There’s a massive gap of almost no surf from the 8th right through to the 19th. That Sunday morning on the 19th is the one to circle. The rest is a kite surfer’s playground, not ours.
Rusty.
