The Lowdown
Right, let's have a look at what’s cookin’ for Magheroarty Strand.
Alright, I won't lie to ya, the next few days are pretty flat and grim. We're looking at a bit of a slow start with poor conditions right through Friday and Saturday, and not much to get excited about on Sunday either. There's a bit of a gap there, so don't bother paddling out until we get to Monday the 24th.
Now, Monday the 24th is your real standout in this whole outlook. The morning is where it’s at. We've got a clean 6 ft groundswell rolling in from the WNW with a nice long period of 11 seconds, and the combined swell energy is a solid 631. That's proper moderate energy, and with the wind staying light and offshore, it’s gonna be clean as a whistle. The water's running at about 61°, which is a touch warmer than we'd normally expect for this time of year. For a point break like this, that longer period swell is going to wrap in nicely. Get on it early Monday morning.
After that, Tuesday the 25th and Wednesday the 26th get blown out by a moderate breeze, so it’s back to the bench. Then Thursday the 27th looks promising on paper with a clean 8 ft swell, but with the combined energy hitting 777, it's gonna be pushing too big for this spot. That’s one for experienced crew only, if anyone’s brave enough. The following weekend, the 29th of August, the Saturday morning has a clean 6 ft swell, but it’s not quite as exciting as Monday was.
Looking further out to the end of the month, Monday the 31st of August has another big one – a clean 8 ft – but again, the energy is up there at 839, and that's going to be too much for this break. The rest of the first week of September looks poor and choppy. There's a glimmer on the 4th of September with a fresh offshore wind and a 6 ft swell from the north, but the combined energy is moderate, and the conditions are described as marginal.
So, to be honest, there's only one true winner here: Monday morning the 24th of August. That's your session. The rest is either too small, too windy, or too big for comfort.
