Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve had a proper look at the charts for Brighton, and I gotta be straight with you – it’s a pretty grim run for the next couple of weeks. There’s honestly no solid surf on offer across the entire 16-day window, with not a single standout session worth getting excited about. The water temp is sitting at 66°, which is a massive 7° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s super unusual, and you’ll feel it if you get in.
Right now, Friday morning, there’s a tiny 1ft SW swell with a short period of 5 seconds and weak combined energy (11), plus light offshore winds. It’s clean but the swell is just too small to do anything with. After that, it’s a consistent mess for days. Saturday the 4th through to Monday the 6th, we’re looking at cross and cross-onshore winds, mostly moderate to fresh breezes, with wave heights barely pushing 4ft on Saturday afternoon – but the wind chops it up and the period is short. The combined energy creeps up to 52 on Saturday arvo, but honestly, it’s poor conditions all the way.
From Tuesday the 7th right through to Thursday the 16th, it’s a bleak stretch. Swells stay tiny, mostly under 1ft, and the wind is either cross or cross-on, with a few clean slots on the 10th, 11th, and 12th mornings when the breeze goes cross-off from the east. But the swell is basically flat – 0.3ft to 0.7ft with combined energy in the single digits. You’d be better off doing something else.
There is a slight flicker on Friday the 17th morning with a 2ft SW swell and light offshore NNW wind, giving clean conditions and combined energy of 22, but the swell is still weak. Saturday the 18th morning looks the best of a bad bunch – 3ft WSW swell with light offshore ENE wind and clean conditions, combined energy reaching 53. It could be borderline rideable for logs, but don’t expect much. The swell direction isn’t ideal for Brighton’s optimum SW exposure, and the period is still short at 5 seconds. Brighton is inconsistent at the best of times, and this blank run is pretty normal for the area. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to chase. Keep your gear ready and hope things turn.
Rusty.
