The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – it’s a bleak 16-day outlook for Brighton. The surf is basically on life support, so don’t get your hopes up.
We’re looking at a long, flat stretch. From now until the end of the first week of August, there’s nothing doing. The combined swell energy barely cracks double digits, with most readings sitting between 0 and 11 (very weak). You’ll be staring at a lot of small, weak dribble. The only real bump in the road comes on the 24th of July, with swell heights hitting 3 ft from the WSW, but the wind is a fresh cross-onshore at 22 mph, so it’ll be lumpy and messy. That’s really not a paddle. The 25th of July has a similar 3 ft swell from the WSW but with a gentler cross-shore breeze, so it’s a touch cleaner but still small.
The real standout, if you can call it that, is the morning of the 27th of July. It’s glassy, with a 2 ft swell from the WSW and a combined energy of 16. That’s your best chance for a clean, tiny wave. For the rest of the run, the wind is either onshore, cross-onshore, or just too strong to make the tiny surf rideable. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle. There’s just not enough push for a surfboard. We’ll have to hope the forecasts change. For now, save your energy.
Rusty.
