Table - best surf conditions forecast for Brighton over the next 16 days.

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Brighton’s got cookin’ over the next couple of weeks. I’ll level with ya straight up: it’s a tough stretch. We’re lookin’ at a long, dry run of poor surf conditions right through the entire 16-day forecast window. There’s no good swell to get excited about.

The first record kicks off on the morning of Tuesday, 7 July, and honestly, it’s a non-starter. The water’s sittin’ at about 66°, which feels about 39° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a real standout, very unusual for July. But the surf? Forget it. We’ve got a cross-shore breeze at 12 mph, a tiny 1 ft swell from the WSW, and a weak period of just 4 seconds. The combined wave energy is a measly 5 (weak), with a cross-chop ruining any chance of a wave. This is a beach/pier setup, so it’s more interesting for kite surfing than paddling today.

Tuesday afternoon stays poor. The wind picks up to 19 mph from the WSW, still onshore, and the swell gets a little bigger at 3 ft but with only 4 seconds of period and 42 (weak) energy – it’s a messy, lumpy mess.

Wednesday morning, the 8th, we get a moment of glassy conditions with light SSW wind at 3 mph, but there’s basically no swell – only 0.7 ft. It’s clean, but with energy at just 3 (weak), you’d be paddling for nothing. Wednesday afternoon is a cross-on breeze again, 1 ft swell, and choppy.

From Thursday the 9th right through to Wednesday the 22nd of July, it’s the same story. Swell heights bounce between zero and 3 ft, periods stay short (2 to 8 seconds), and the combined energy never breaks out of the weak range – topping out at 27 on the afternoon of the 21st. Winds are a mix of cross, cross-off, and cross-on, with the occasional clean spell (like on the morning of the 22nd with NNW offshore at 6 mph), but there’s simply no wave energy to work with.

There’s no standout day. No one day is worth paddling out for. Brighton is inconsistent at the best of times, and this 16-day window is a proper blank run. Don’t hold your breath – forecasts change, but right now it’s about as flat as it gets.

Rusty.
