The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s cooking in the water over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s gonna be a tough stretch. We’re looking at a long, quiet spell with hardly any real swell to get excited about. For the first week and a half, the surf is pretty much flat, with only tiny, weak waves showing up now and then. The combined energy is mostly a weak 2, 3, or 4, so we’re just not getting any push. A lot of the time, the energy is zero.
Brighton (beach/pier) is your only real option, and it’s inconsistent. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothing weird there. For the first few days, from Wednesday the 15th through the weekend, it’s all under 2 ft and mostly from the W or E. A few windows have clean conditions – like the Saturday morning of the 18th with glassy conditions (ESE 5 km/h) – but with no swell, it’s a flat lake. The 22nd and 23rd are totally flat too.
You’ll see a tiny bump on the 24th, Friday afternoon, with a 2 ft W swell at 3 seconds, but it’s a messy, choppy cross-onshore wind (SW 15 mph). That’s not for a paddle surf; that’s more of a kite session if you’re into that. The 25th, Saturday, has a little 1 ft W swell in the morning, but it’s light cross-onshore. Not great. The 26th gets blown out by a strong SW breeze.
The only real standout – and I’m using that word very loosely – is the 30th, Thursday morning. We finally see a hint of energy, with a combined swell energy of 11 (still weak). There’s a 2 ft swell from ESE with a 3-second period, but the wind is a gentle cross-onshore. It’s still poor, but it’s the best we’ve got in this whole 16-day window. Don’t get your hopes up.
Overall, it’s a quiet, frustrating run for Brighton. If you’re desperate, keep an eye on that 30th, but honestly, this is a good time to clean the wax off your board.
Rusty.
