The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this next 16-day stretch for Brighton is a pretty flat run. We’re looking at a long, long gap with no real surf to get excited about. The models are showing nothing but tiny, weak bumps and onshore junk for the better part of two weeks.
The only time we see a pulse of energy that’s worth paddling out for is right at the very end of the window. We’ve got a swell showing up on the morning of the 29th of July, with a 5 ft swell rolling in from the SW. It’s got a moderate amount of energy behind it, but it’s a short-period swell, only 6 seconds. That means it’s going to be a bit of a fat, lumpy mess. The wind early that morning is light and cross-shore from the ESE, so it won’t be totally blown out, but it’s not going to be glassy. The wave quality is still rated as poor, so don’t expect any gems.
Honestly, for the whole 16 days, the water is running much warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 68°, but that’s about the only highlight. For the rest of the period, the swell is almost non-existent, with heights hovering around 0.3 ft to 2 ft and the combined energy barely hitting double digits. There are a couple of mornings with glassy or offshore wind, like the 20th of July and the 28th of July, but with no swell to push, it’s just a flat, clean lake.
If you’re desperate for a paddle, look at the 29th of July, but keep your expectations on the floor. Otherwise, it’s a waiting game. The rest of the run is a total write-off.
Rusty.
