The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about the Brighton stretch. I'm gonna level with you, it's a rough outlook.
We're looking at a massive 16-day window, and honestly, there's nothing good to surf. The first real swell doesn't show up until the end of August, and when it does, the wind kills it. There's a big gap from the start of the forecast for nearly a week with nothing but tiny, blown-out rubbish.
The only spot on the list is Brighton, a beach/pier that's inconsistent and rarely works. The water's sitting at about 69°F, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year.
The only real pulse of energy comes on Saturday, August 29th, with a 7ft swell from the WSW. The combined energy hits 332—moderate—but it's a short period of 7 seconds and a strong cross-shore wind. It's a total mess. For a paddle surfer, forget it. With that kind of strong wind and short-period chop, this is a kiteboarding session, not a surfing one.
Sunday the 30th drops to 4ft, but it's still cross-shore and lumpy. Then Monday, August 31st, sends another 7ft pulse with a combined energy of 589, which is strong. But again, it's a short 7-second period and a fresh cross-shore wind. That's expert-only territory, and even then, it's going to be a battle.
The first week of September is a total dud. Tuesday the 1st has a tiny 2ft, and it just drops off. The swell on the 5th and 6th of September has a longer period of 10 seconds and a 5ft wave on the 6th, but the wind is still cross-onshore and choppy, wrecking any chance of a clean wave.
No standouts, no treasures. It's a quiet period, but it won't last forever. Forecasts can change.
Rusty.
