The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for the Brighton area over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, I've got to be honest with you. This is a tough one. The outlook for Brighton is looking pretty grim for the foreseeable future. We've got a long stretch of tiny, weak waves and poor conditions. The first real chance of anything happening is still a long way off.
Looking at the forecast, we're in for a real flat spell. From now until well into the weekend, the swell is practically non-existent, with heights hanging around 0.3ft to 0.7ft if we're lucky. The wind is all over the place, but when the swell is that small, it doesn't matter much. It's just a waiting game.
The first bit of hope comes on Saturday the 25th of July. Early bird gets the worm here, with the Saturday morning session seeing a glassy 1ft from the WSW. The wind is set to be glassy, which would mean perfect, clean conditions. But the swell is still tiny, and it's a short period swell of just 4 seconds. The combined wave energy is a weak 54, so it's pretty marginal. The afternoon blows up with a fresh breeze and a choppy 4ft, but that's not going to be any fun.
The real standout, if you can call it that, looks to be Monday the 27th of July. The afternoon sees the biggest swell of the whole period, a 6ft WSW swell, but the wind is a fresh cross-onshore at 30 km/h, making it lumpy and messy. The combined energy hits 189, which is moderate, but the wind is just going to ruin it. Monday morning is a bit better with a 3ft swell and gentler cross-onshore winds, but it's still not great.
The pick of the bunch, if you are desperate for a paddle, is probably the Saturday morning of the 25th July. The 1ft swell with glassy conditions and light winds will be the cleanest the water gets, but it's really only for a longboard or a foiler. For anything else, you're just going to be frustrated.
Honestly, lads, this is a lean period. The water is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but that's not much consolation when the surf is flat. There are no real standouts, just a few marginal windows. Keep an eye on the long-range, but for now, don't hold your breath.
Rusty.
