The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you about Boscombe Pier. I’ve scanned the next 16 days, and I gotta tell ya, it’s a tough run. The forecast is showing a long, dry spell with nothing that’s really going to get the heart pumping. We’re looking at a gap of over a week where the surf is just a non-starter.
The first few days? Well, it’s all poor surf. Friday morning the 17th has a tiny 1ft ESE swell with a period of just 4 seconds and combined energy of only 11. That’s weak. The wind is cross-off from the NNE at 3 mph so it’s clean, but there’s just no juice. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
Saturday the 18th through to the end of July is just a write-off. We’re talking flat spells, cross-onshore breezes, and combined energy levels that barely hit double digits. It’s frustrating because the wind is often clean, offshore or cross-off, but the swell is just not there. For instance, Saturday morning the 25th shows a bit of cross-off NW wind at 16 mph with a 3ft W swell, but the period is a short 4 seconds and the energy is a weak 24. It’s not enough to be fun.
We do have a couple of moments where the wind goes offshore, like Wednesday afternoon the 22nd with a gentle NNE breeze at 9 mph. The swell is 2ft from the WSW, but again, it’s a short period and the energy is a paltry 11. It’s clean, but it’s just not surfable in any meaningful way.
The best of a bad bunch looks to be Saturday the 25th afternoon. We get a 3ft W swell, a period of 4 seconds, and combined energy of 41. The wind is offshore from the NNW at 6 mph, so it’s clean. But with that short period, it’s going to be mushy and weak. For a beginner spot, it’s not dangerous, but it’s not exactly a standout either.
Looking further out, the 1st of August has a small 0.3ft W swell with an offshore N breeze at 9 mph. Clean, but tiny. Honestly, the whole period is a bust. There’s nothing here that feels like a real surf. It’s a blank run, and for this area, that’s kind of normal when the swell windows just don’t line up. Keep an eye on the charts, but for now, don’t bother getting wet.
Rusty.
