Table - best surf conditions forecast for Boscombe Pier over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a good, hard look at what’s on the table for Boscombe Pier over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the outlook is a tough one. The entire 16-day window is a write-off for any decent surf. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with nothing that’s going to get the heart racing. The first usable day is Thursday, July 9th, but it’s a total dud with a tiny 0.3ft swell coming from the west and a combined energy of just 4, so I wouldn’t even bother getting the wetsuit on. The water is a stonking 67°F, which is a massive 8°F warmer than usual – that’s very unusual – but it’s not going to help the waves.
The pattern just doesn’t change. For the next two weeks, every single session is marked as poor surf conditions. The only brief flicker of hope comes on Tuesday, July 14th afternoon, when a 5ft easterly swell rolls in with a combined energy of 136, but it's a short-period 6 seconds and cross-onshore winds will chop it up badly. That’s still not a recommendation. The rest of the time is dominated by tiny, weak swells, mostly under 2ft, and often with no energy at all.
Even when the wind turns offshore or glassy, like on the 18th and 20th of July mornings, there’s just no swell to work with. The break is inconsistent at the best of times, and this forecast confirms it’s a blank run. For a beach/pier setup like this, the conditions are so poor that this stretch looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, especially with the stronger cross-shore winds on the 12th of July.
Bottom line: Don’t hold your breath. The forecasts are always changing, but right now, there’s nothing to chase. Stick the boards in the shed and come back another time.
Rusty.
