The Lowdown
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
It’s a pretty grim start, I won’t lie. We’ve got a proper flat spell kicking off. For the first week and a half, there’s essentially nothing worth paddling out for. The energy is just not there, and the wind is all over the shop. You’ll be looking at tiny, weak waves with a lot of chop. It’s one of those runs where you’re better off checking the forecast again tomorrow.
Finally, things start to look a bit more interesting heading into the start of September. The first real standout I can see is on Friday, the 4th of September, at Boscombe Pier. The swell is pushing up to 6 ft from the SW, and the wind swings around to a clean offshore from the north. That’s a major bonus – it’ll scrub the surface right up. The combined energy is moderate (368), and it’s a beach/pier setup, so it won’t be too scary. It’s a beginner-friendly break, so that offshore wind will make for some fun, clean lines. Just be aware it’s inconsistent here, so you’ll be waiting for the sets.
The only other half-decent window is the afternoon of the same day. The swell holds around 6 ft from the WSW, and the wind goes light and cross-off out of the northwest. The energy is still moderate (355), and it’ll be clean. Again, it’s Boscombe Pier, so don’t expect a world-class wall, but for a clean, chest-high wave in the UK, you could do a lot worse.
Anything in the second week is a gamble. The long-range stuff shows some bigger pulses, but the wind is a mess – fresh onshore and lumpy. It’s not worth getting excited about yet.
So, to sum it up: don’t bother for the next ten days. Your best bet is the morning of Friday, the 4th of September, with that offshore wind. It’s the only true standout in the whole run.
Rusty.
