Table - best surf conditions forecast for Boscombe Pier over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next 16 days at Boscombe Pier are a tough watch. The finder is basically a ghost town for good surf until the very end of the run. We’ve got a solid 11-day stretch from Friday the 10th right through to Monday the 21st of July where the scores are a flat zero – nothing but poor surf conditions and tiny, weak energy. It’s a real bummer, but it happens here. The only flicker of light comes right at the tail end of the window.
The first real chance of a wave shows up on Wednesday the 22nd of July. The morning brings a 4ft swell from the WSW, but the real gem is the Wednesday afternoon. The wind goes glassy, with a light WNW breeze at 3 mph. That’s a major positive. You’ll get clean, 4ft waves from the WSW, with a short period of 6 seconds. The combined energy is a moderate 100 – enough to push you around. The water is a notable 68°, which is a massive 8° warmer than usual for this time of year, so you can leave the winter suit at home. This is easily the best on offer, but understand it’s just surfable, ordinary stuff. Don’t expect perfection.
Thursday the 23rd still has a small 4ft swell in the morning with clean conditions, but the wind switches onshore in the afternoon, ruining it. Then Friday the 24th of July sees a big jump in size – an 8ft to 10ft swell from the WSW, pumping a strong 779 to 979 combined energy. But the wind is onshore and choppy, so it’s a messy, powerful beast. At over 8ft, this is expert-only territory and honestly, looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing given the chop. The period is only 8 seconds, so it’s a bit of a windswell mess.
Saturday the 25th drops back to 6ft to 6ft, but again, cross-onshore winds and moderate energy – it’s still not a clean paddle.
So, the standout is hands-down the Wednesday afternoon, 22nd of July. It’s the only window with glassy conditions and a surfable wave. It’s a rare, clean moment in a long, flat spell. For the rest, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
