Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right then, let's be honest—this forecast for Boscombe Pier is a tough one. Over the next 16 days, we're looking at a real dry spell for any decent surf. The swell energy is just too weak, with combined readings often in the single digits or low tens—the highest I see is a paltry 47 (units). That's barely a bump on the horizon. There are long gaps where there's nothing worth paddling out for, day after day.
Kicking off on Friday afternoon, 3rd July, it's just 0.7 ft of tiny, choppy swell from the WSW with a 12 mph cross-on wind. Not your friend. Saturday morning the 4th is more of the same, tiny and cross-shore. Then we get a glimmer Saturday afternoon—4 ft from the WSW but with a terrible 4-second period. That's windswell, all crumble and no push. It's clean with a cross-off breeze at least.
Sunday morning the 5th is flat with a 10-second period on 0.7 ft, and Sunday afternoon is back to that bumpy windswell. The rest of that first week and into the second is a relentless run of tiny surf—0.3 ft, 0.7 ft, 1.0 ft—with periods all over the shop and mostly cross or cross-on winds. We get a few clean moments with offshore breezes on the 7th and 9th, but the waves simply aren't there to ride.
Moving into the second week, the pattern doesn't change. Wednesday morning the 15th sees a clean, offshore wind from the north with a 10-second period, but on a 0.3 ft swell. It's flat. Friday the 17th morning offers a clean 2 ft, but again with a short 4-second period. The afternoon actually bumps up to a 21 (units) combined energy on a 1.0 ft, 8-second swell—the most interesting number in the whole window—but it's a tiny wave and we're running out of time.
The water temperature is a standout though—66°F, which is a massive 8° warmer than average. That is very unusual for the time of year.
In short, there is absolutely nothing here to get excited about. No standouts, no sessions worth chasing. For Boscombe Pier (Boscombe-Pier), this blank run is just how it is sometimes. Forecasts can change, but right now, don't bother waxing up.
