Alright mates, Rusty here. Let's chew the fat on what’s cookin' for Boscombe Pier over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with ya—it's a quiet stretch. We got a long dry spell ahead, so don't get your hopes up too early.
We're looking at a big gap from Sunday the 5th of July, with hardly anything worth paddling out for. The swell is ankle-snappers, the wind is mostly cross or onshore, and the notes are reading "poor surf conditions" over and over. The combined energy is showing weak numbers, mostly under 100. Water temp is sitting at 67°, which is much warmer than usual—about 8° above average for this time of year, so you might be able to go with a spring suit if you're brave, but that's the only silver lining.
A little bump of energy shows up around the 10th and 11th of July. We see some 4ft swell coming from the East, but with a real short period of just 5 to 6 seconds. That's not gonna give you any grunt. The combined energy gets into the moderate range (107 on the Saturday morning), but the wind is either cross or cross-on, meaning it’s gonna be lumpy and choppy. Not a standout, but it’s the most size you’ll see for a bit.
The one true highlight—and I mean the only one worth setting an alarm for—is Monday the 20th of July, first light. The wind goes dead calm, glassy as a lake. We got about 4ft of swell out of the WSW, period still short at 5 seconds, with combined energy at 59 (weak). The notes finally say "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions". For Boscombe Pier, that’s your moment. Glassy conditions on a small day mean the surface will be smooth, giving you the best chance to milk whatever that short-period energy has to offer. Crowds are liable to show up when it's glassy (listed as sometimes), so be prepared for company. It won't be epic, but compared to the rest of the run, this is as good as it gets. By the afternoon, the window shuts with a fresh cross-onshore SW wind at 18 mph, ruining the surface completely.
So to wrap it up: keep your eyes on a dawn patrol for Monday the 20th July at Boscombe Pier. Outside of that, it's a whole lot of nothing for two weeks. Windswept, weak, and forgettable.
I'm Rusty, signing off.
