Table - best surf conditions forecast for Boscombe Pier over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Boscombe Pier.
To be straight with you, the next couple of weeks look pretty bleak for a proper paddle. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak waves and dodgy wind. For almost the first ten days, the swell is mostly under 2ft with short-period junk. The water temp is sitting at a very warm 68°F, which is a full 8°F warmer than normal for this time of year—that’s really unusual. It’s like the sea’s been left in a hot car.
Friday the 10th through to Sunday the 20th is a write-off for any real surf. You’ll see a few tiny bumps, but nothing worth paddling out for. The wind is mostly cross or onshore, and the swell energy is either in the single digits or barely cracking 100—just weak, messy dribble.
The first sign of life shows up around Monday afternoon, July 21st. We get a cleaner window with some cross-offshore wind from the WNW at 12 mph and a 3ft swell from the WSW. It’s still small, but the combined energy jumps to 23—not exciting, but cleaner. Don’t get your hopes up too high though, because Tuesday the 22nd is back to choppy junk.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. The real standout—and the only one that gets my blood goin’—is Friday afternoon, July 24th, and Saturday the 25th. On Friday afternoon, we get a 6ft swell from the SW (216 combined energy) with a gentle cross-shore breeze from the WSW at 9 mph. That’s decent size and some real grunt behind it. The next morning, Saturday the 25th, it’s even cleaner with a 4ft WSW swell at 8 seconds and WNW cross-offshore wind at 16 mph. The combined energy is 138—solid moderate energy, and it’s *clean*. The wind is offshore, the swell is from the optimum direction for Boscombe Pier (SSW is ideal, so WSW is close enough), and it’s not too big for most. That Saturday morning is your best bet of the whole outlook.
Saturday afternoon on the 25th holds up too: 3ft WSW swell, 9-second period, and clean offshore wind from the W at 12 mph. Energy hits 166. That’s a proper session for a point-and-pier setup like this.
Crowds are *sometimes* an issue here, so on a decent Saturday like this, expect a few locals out. But with the lack of swell in the weeks before, everyone’ll be hungry.
Anything over 5ft (like Friday afternoon’s 6ft) is getting a bit big for beginners, so if you’re new, stick to the Saturday window.
So to wrap it up: forget the first week and a half. The only windows worth your wax are Friday afternoon the 24th and Saturday the 25th. That Saturday morning is the pick of the whole lot—clean, waist-to-chest-high waves, and the wind playing nice.
Rusty.
