The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this 16-day window for Boscombe Pier is a tough one. The whole period is a flat spell, with no surf that’s worth paddling out for. The first week is basically a write-off, and the second week doesn’t offer much hope either. We’re looking at a long stretch of poor surf conditions.
The only real glimmer of action comes late on Sunday, July 26th. The afternoon shows a bump in swell to 5ft out of the WSW, with a period of 6 seconds and a combined wave energy of (138). The wind is a cross-offshore from the WNW at 12 mph, which will keep it fairly clean. But even then, the overall quality is still marked as poor. The water temperature is a staggering 70°, which is a massive 9° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s very unusual, almost like a warm bath.
Monday, July 27th, sees a similar setup in the morning, with a 3ft WSW swell, a clean offshore wind from the NNW at 16 mph, and moderate energy (44). The afternoon picks up a bit more size at 4ft (55 energy) with a cross-offshore breeze. Still, it’s all small, short-period windswell.
For the rest of the run, we’re looking at tiny, gutless waves. The swell barely cracks 2ft, and most of the time it’s under 1ft with periods of 3 to 4 seconds. The wind is mostly onshore, cross-on, or just messy. On Tuesday, July 28th, the afternoon goes glassy with a 2ft swell, but it’s still a weak, short-period wave. The best of the rest might be Sunday, August 3rd, with a glassy morning and a 2ft easterly swell, but it’s a long way out and the energy is still weak (22).
Honestly, there’s nothing here to get excited about. It’s a blank run for the area. Hang tight, the forecasts can change, but for now, keep the boards in the car and the wax in the shed.
Rusty.
