Table - best surf conditions forecast for Freshwater Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ at Freshwater Bay. Gotta be straight with ya – we’re lookin’ at a long, dry spell before anything even worth paddlin’ out for shows up. The first solid hint of somethin’ surfable ain’t till Tuesday the 21st of July, and even then, it’s pretty ordinary.
For most of this 16-day run, we’ve got a whole lot of nothin’. The opening days – Wednesday the 8th through to Monday the 20th – are a write-off: tiny swell, messy wind, and cross-onshore chop. It’s just flat and ugly, with the combined wave energy hardly ever climbin’ past double digits. Even when we get a sniff of easterly swell around the 11th, the wind ruins it. Honestly, if you’re desperate, this setup’s more suited to a kite than a paddle – but I wouldn’t bother.
Now, we finally see a pulse of easterly swell movin’ in around the 21st. Tuesday morning the 21st of July is the pick of the whole outlook, even if it’s nothin’ flash. Swell runs about 4 ft from the east, period around 5 seconds – not long-period groundswell, just a short, weak pulse. The combined wave energy is just 99, so it’s on the edge of moderate. But here’s the kicker: glassy conditions, no wind at all. That’s gonna make for clean, smooth waves at Freshwater Bay (reef and point). It’s a fairly consistent spot, and sometimes you’ll get a few out there, but on a Tuesday mornin’ with no wind, you might dodge the crowd.
The water temp’s sittin’ at 66°F, which is a solid 7° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s very unusual, almost feels like summer hangin’ on.
After that, the arvo on the 21st gets chopped up by a strong cross-onshore, and the rest of the week fades back into tiny, lumpy slop. So, there you have it – not much on offer, but if you’re keen, that Tuesday morning window is your one and only shot. Stay patient, mates.
