Table - best surf conditions forecast for Swanage over the next 16 days.
Alright lads and lasses, Rusty here again. Let’s be honest – if you’re looking at Swanage for the next 16 days, you might as well take up yoga. This spot rarely breaks, and this forecast is a long, flat drought with a couple of tiny hiccups that barely count as waves. It starts Sunday July 12th with zilch, and that run of flatness goes on for days. The first thing worth mentioning doesn’t come until Tuesday afternoon the 14th, and it’s tiny and messy.
The water is warmer than normal – 66°F – which is about 6°F above average, so at least the dip won’t be cold.
Week one is a write-off. Sunday the 12th has a 0.3ft cross-on shore wind slop with a 19 mph breeze – hopeless. Monday and Tuesday are onshore and bumpy. Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th offer 3ft swell but with a 5-second period and cross-onshore wind – just choppy junk. Thursday afternoon does get clean with light SW winds, but the wave height is only 0.7ft – not worth the rubber.
The one bright spot, and I use that term loosely, is Friday morning July 17th. We get 3ft of swell from the SW, 7-second period, and light offshore wind from the W at 6 mph. Clean. The energy is moderate (100 combined). That’s your best wave of the whole 16 days. Crowds are sometimes an issue at Swanage, but you won’t be fighting for a 3-footer.
After that, it’s back to tiny waves – Saturday the 18th through Monday the 20th is clean but only 0.3ft to 1ft. Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday morning the 22nd are glassy but flat. Wednesday afternoon the 22nd jumps to 5ft from the WSW, but the period is a short 6 seconds, energy is moderate (179), and the cross-offshore wind at 16 mph will make it lumpy. That size and onshore-ish wind says kite session, not paddle session.
The last few days from the 23rd to the 27th have offshore winds and glassy mornings, but waves rarely top 2ft with periods under 8 seconds. Combined energy is in the single or low double digits – weak.
Bottom line: Friday morning the 17th is your only real chance for a clean, small wave. Otherwise, the boards stay in the bag. Enjoy the warm water.
Rusty.
