Table - best surf conditions forecast for Swanage over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk about Swanage.
Honestly, mate, I’ve got to be straight with you – the next 16 days are a real struggle. There’s no good surf on offer at all. The forecasts are all marked as poor, and that’s because the numbers back it up. We’re looking at a long, blank run here, which is pretty normal for this spot. It’s a very sheltered place, so when the swell window closes, it shuts right up.
For the first week, from Thursday the 9th right through to the end of Saturday the 12th, the swell is tiny, mostly under 3ft, and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, making a mess of things. The combined energy is weak, barely cracking 95 (95) at one point. There’s a brief moment on Wednesday afternoon the 15th when the swell bumps up to 5ft from the east, with a cross-offshore wind, so the surface is clean. The energy hits a moderate 127 (127) there, but the period is short at 6 seconds, and that east wind swell doesn’t suit the optimum SW direction. It’s still a poor surf call.
After that, it’s even smaller. The second week is a desert. We’re talking ankle-snappers at best, with heights of 0.3ft to 2ft, and the combined energy rarely gets into double digits. The water’s been very warm for this time of year, sitting at 65°, which is a massive 6° above normal. That’s pretty unusual.
So, the truth is, there’s no standout. There’s no window I’d tell you to paddle out. Don’t bother checking the buoys, just give it a rest. Forecasts can always change, but right now, it’s a flat spell.
Rusty.
