The Lowdown
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on offer. To be honest, looking at the 16-day window, it’s a pretty grim stretch for us here at Swanage. The swell is tiny and the wind is all over the shop for most of it. The water is sitting at 66°, which is a whopping 6.1° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s very unusual, you’d think you were in the tropics.
The first real chance of anything surfable doesn’t come until Wednesday the 29th of July. The morning shows a small window of opportunity. We’ve got a 3.9ft swell from the southwest with a period of 8 seconds, blowing offshore from the west. The combined energy is moderate (349). It’s described as surfable but very ordinary. That offshore wind will keep it clean, but it’s not going to be setting the world on fire. For a beginner, 3.9ft is fine, but it’s not a standout.
The afternoon of the 29th sees the swell bump up to 6.2ft from the west-southwest, with a stronger 8-second period and a combined energy of 668. The wind is cross-offshore from the west-southwest, so it’ll be clean. But at 6.2ft, it's getting a bit hefty for a beginner, and the conditions are still rated as poor. There’s nothing else that comes close to being a highlight in this entire run. The rest of the days are full of tiny, choppy, onshore slop or flat spells. We’ve got a big gap from now all the way through to the 29th, over two weeks of nothing much to write home about.
For a spot that rarely breaks, this is a pretty normal blank run for the area. Don’t hold your breath.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Warm (max 27°C on Wed afternoon, min 16°C on Wed night). Winds decreasing (fresh winds from the NE on Tue night, calm by Thu night). | Days 4-6 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Warm (max 25°C on Fri night, min 15°C on Sat night). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||||
