Table - best surf conditions forecast for Swanage over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Swanage has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, it's a pretty grim outlook for the foreseeable future. The guiding data tells us this spot only rarely breaks, and looking at the numbers, that's no joke. The first real sniff of anything even close to rideable doesn't show up until the morning of Wednesday, July 15th, and even then it's a stretch. That's a solid week of nothing but flat, choppy, onshore junk. The small window of hope on the 15th morning gives us a 4ft swell from the east, but with a short period of 6 seconds and a moderate onshore breeze creating messy conditions, it's still a "poor surf" call. The combined energy is weak at just 92.
The next day, Thursday, July 16th, things get a bit more interesting. The morning shows a clean, offshore wind from the WSW at 16 mph with a 2ft swell from the SW. The flow is clean, but the energy is still low at 18. It's not going to be big, but it might be the most rideable it gets. The following Friday the 17th morning also has a gentle offshore breeze and a similar 1ft swell, so it's a similar story.
The one standout, if you can call it that, is Tuesday, July 21st. The morning is glassy – dead calm wind, 0 mph from the NNW – and there's a 5ft easterly swell. The combined energy finally pops into the moderate range at 131, so there's a bit more push. The period is only 5 seconds though, so it'll be a bit of a mushy, close-out wave at the beach and not the kind of groundswell that offers long walls. It's not big enough to be a problem for beginners, but it's not exactly a classic.
The water temperature is a very unusual 65°F, which is a full 5° warmer than the long-term average for this time of year. That's a notable anomaly.
Overall, don't get your hopes up. The best bet is the Tuesday, July 21st morning for the glassy conditions, but it's a long way off and the swell is mediocre. The rest of the 16-day window is a write-off. This is a spot that rarely fires, and this forecast shows exactly why.
Stay patient, Rusty.
