Table - best surf conditions forecast for Swanage over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: we’ve got a long, flat run ahead for Swanage. The good news? There is nearly nothing on offer for the whole 16-day window. The whole period is a write-off, so don’t bother waxing up just yet.
Right out of the gate, Friday morning the 10th sees a tiny 2ft easterly windswell with a short 4-second period and weak energy (10). The wind is onshore from the east at 9 mph, so it’s blown out and messy. Afternoon only gets worse with a 1ft wave and the wind going cross-onshore. Poor conditions are the name of the game. Saturday the 11th is a little bigger at 3ft, but it’s still an onshore windswell from the east at 16 mph – choppy and ugly. Energy climbs to a moderate 65, but the wind kills it. Sunday the 12th morning is barely 0.3ft with a fresh cross-onshore breeze at 22 mph, and the afternoon delivers a 4ft easterly swell with a moderate 112 energy, but again the wind is onshore. The whole first week is dominated by poor surf conditions, onshore or cross-onshore winds, and short-period junk. About the only thing worth noting is the water temperature, which has a huge anomaly of 3°C, so it’s much warmer than normal for the time of year – around 65°F. That’s very unusual, but with no waves you’ll just be swimming.
The second week is a ghost town. From Monday the 13th through Wednesday the 22nd, it’s almost entirely flat or micro-swells under 2ft, with nothing but poor surf flags. There are a couple of afternoons, like Saturday the 18th, where a 0.3ft westerly groundswell with a 10-second period shows up and even goes offshore from the WSW at 6 mph – clean, glassy – but the swell is laughable at just 2 energy. It’s just not enough to ride. Wednesday the 22nd is completely flat with zero energy. Even the later days, like Friday the 24th, see a 0.3ft westerly swell with offshore wind, but again, it’s all tiny. Nothing breaks past a 2ft on Thursday the 23rd, and that’s with a fresh onshore easterly at 19 mph.
Look, this is an exposed but very sheltered corner of the coast, and rarely breaks anyway according to the guidance. It’s just one of those blank runs. When there’s nothing, we tell it plain. For paddle surfing, there is simply no option across the 16-day window. If you’re a kiter or wingfoiler, maybe a couple of those cleaner but tiny afternoons could work.
