G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s call it like it is – this entire stretch is a dud for Swanage. There isn’t a single wave worth paddling for in the whole 16-day window. This spot rarely breaks at the best of times, and this run is about as flat and wind-whipped as it gets. You’ve got a long, empty gap ahead.
Starting off on the 5th and 6th of July, you’ve got tiny little 0.3ft to 1ft swells from the west, with periods around 9-10 seconds. The combined energy is weak – never above 16. The wind is offshore or clean, but with that size, it’s just a flat ripple. Nothing to get excited about.
From the 8th through the 12th of July, some easterly swell tries to build, going from 0.3ft up to 5ft. But it’s all onshore wind. A 4ft wave from the east with a short 5-second period and a moderate breeze on it is just messy, choppy waist-high junk – combined energy hits 128, but it’s all wind slop. Not surfable.
Then from the 13th to the 19th of July, it’s a mix of onshore and cross-onshore winds from the east and northeast, with swell bouncing between flat and 5ft. That 5ft on the 16th from the east with a 6-second period and onshore wind is just bumpy and awful – combined energy gets to 183, but the quality is terrible. For a sheltered spot like this, anything over 5ft with onshore wind is too much for beginners and just a messy close-out for anyone else.
The final days, the 19th and 20th, go totally flat – zero energy. Not even a ripple. Even the glassy calm on the 20th morning is just a flat calm.
Look, a blank run like this is normal for a spot that rarely breaks. Forecasts can shift, but right now, there’s nothing. Leave the board in the shed.
