Table - best surf conditions forecast for Swanage over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – looking at this 16-day window for Swanage, it’s a tough one. The pattern overall is pretty grim, with a long stretch of poor conditions that’ll test your patience. The first recommendation doesn’t come until late in the period, so there’s a significant gap from the start right through to almost the very end.
Let’s run through it. The first week is a write-off. From Sunday the 12th through to Saturday the 26th, it’s mostly poor surf conditions. We’ve got a lot of wind on it – cross-onshore or onshore breezes, often fresh, which will make things lumpy and choppy. The swell heights that do show up are tiny, mostly under 2 ft and the wave energy is super weak, with values like 2, 83, or 164 – that’s very low power. There are a couple of pretty mornings, like Thursday the 16th with glassy conditions and a 1 ft swell, but it’s just not enough to get excited about. That’s a lot of days with no real surf on offer.
Now, something finally shows up on Monday the 27th of July. We get a morning situation with a clean, gentle offshore breeze from the West. The swell picks up to 4 ft, coming from the WSW with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 305, which is moderate. For Swanage, given how sheltered and rarely breaking it is, this is the one true standout in the entire forecast. It’s not huge, so beginners might find it manageable, but the real issue is the break is listed as rarely breaks, so you’re relying on that specific combination to light it up. Also, it can get crowded sometimes.
The 4 ft swell from the WSW with offshore wind will likely produce the cleanest, most rideable waves we’ll see all forecast. It’s not an expert-only day, but given it’s a week away, keep your fingers crossed the forecast holds. Anything over 8 ft would be for experts only, but we’re not there. The period is short, under 8 seconds, so expect a steeper, weaker wave.
So, to sum it up: a long, bleak run of poor surf, and then one Monday morning that offers a genuine chance for a session. If you’ve got the patience, that’s your window.
Rusty.
