Alright folks, Rusty here. Gonna be a tough one to call for the next couple of weeks, so let's get straight into it.
First off, the water temp is running about average for this time of year, so nothing wild to report there.
Look, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it – the next 16 days are a real struggle for Swanage. We're looking at a solid 4-day gap right off the bat with absolutely nothing worth paddling out for. The first whisper of a wave doesn't show up until Monday the 6th of July, and even then, it's a sad little 1ft westerly windswell. The combined energy is a pathetic 3, and the wind is a moderate offshore, so it'll be clean, but you're basically surfing a bathtub ripple. That's not surf, that's a float session.
The pattern stays grim through the whole first week. The wind swings onshore, mostly from the east, with a bit of a bump on Friday the 10th of July. The swell hits 5ft, but it's a short-period 6 seconds on a stiff 19 mph onshore breeze. The combined energy gets up to 125 (moderate), but the quality is described as "poor surf conditions" and it's a onshore mess. The swell direction is east, which is not the optimum SW for this spot, so it's going to be lumpy and blown out. This is a beach setup, so honestly, with that onshore wind and building swell, it looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The second week is a bit of a mixed bag of nothing. There's a brief moment on Wednesday the 15th of July where the morning is a choppy 5ft, but then the afternoon goes glassy. The swell drops to 4ft, wind goes glassy, and the combined energy is 107. The problem is it's still a short-period easterly windswell, and the set-up is sheltered from the best direction. It's the best on offer, I guess, but it's a real low bar. The waves are going to be windswell lines, fat and weak.
After that, it's another big gap from the 16th through the 20th with just tiny, sub-1ft dribbles on the 19th. The bottom line is there are no standouts. The forecast is consistently poor, and that's a normal pattern for this area. Nothing to get excited about here.
Keep your eyes on the charts, but for now, it's a no-go.
Rusty.
