Table - best surf conditions forecast for Swanage over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for Swanage over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a bit of a tough one to call. For the next ten days, the swell is pretty much non-existent or just tiny, and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, making for a real messy, choppy situation. You're looking at a long stretch of flat, poor conditions from now until around the 24th of July. There's a few brief moments where the wind goes light or glassy, but the swell just isn't there to back it up.
The water is much warmer than normal for this time of year, coming in at 66°, which is a real treat if you're just having a dip, but it's not helping the surf.
Things finally look like they might kick off right at the end of the run. The standout here is Friday the 24th of July. The afternoon sees a solid 7ft swell from the WSW, with a moderate offshore breeze from the SW. That's a clean, offshore wind, which is a major positive. The combined wave energy hits a strong 418, so there's plenty of grunt in the water. This is only for the experts though, as it's over 8ft. The swell period is 7 seconds, so it's a bit of a jumbled, short-period windswell, but with that offshore wind, it should scrub up into some decent, punchy waves.
The next day, Saturday the 25th, is also promising. The morning sees a 3ft swell from the west, with glassy conditions. It's a clean, calm start to the day, with wave energy at a moderate 168. This is much more manageable for the intermediate crew, and the glassy conditions will make it smooth as silk.
All in all, the first week and a half is a write-off for surf. The only real action comes in the final two days of the window. The Friday is big and windy, for the brave, and the Saturday is smaller and perfect for a wider range of surfers.
Rusty.
