Table - best surf conditions forecast for Swanage over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, it’s Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a tough one for the Swanage area. We’re looking at a 16-day window that’s pretty much a write-off for any kind of decent surf. The whole forecast is dominated by tiny, weak swells and onshore or cross-onshore winds that just ruin any chance of a clean wave.
The first record we get is for Friday the 10th of July, but honestly, don’t get your hopes up. We’re talking about a pathetic 2ft to 2ft of swell coming from the East with a shockingly short period of only 4 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 10 (weak energy). It’s just poor surf conditions with a moderate breeze messing things up. This is a long stretch of nothing.
There is a gap of a few days where the waves are basically non-existent, with zero swell showing up from Sunday the 12th through Monday the 13th. Then we get a slight bump on Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th, with swell heights hitting 4ft to 4ft from the East. The period is still a short 6 seconds, and the combined energy finally gets into the moderate range, hitting 117 on Wednesday morning. But the wind is still blowing onshore or cross-onshore, anywhere from 15 to 19 mph, which is a fresh breeze. It’s going to be choppy and messy. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so nothing to note there.
The real kicker is that Swanage is a very sheltered spot, and it rarely breaks. With this wind direction and weak swell, you’d honestly have a better time on a kiteboard than a surfboard. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Even when we get a little offshore wind towards the end of the period, like on Friday the 24th of July, the swell is a joke – just 0.7ft. There’s simply no power behind it. For the entire 16 days, the score never even gets off zero. It’s a complete blank run, which is more normal for this area during a calm spell. There’s no standout day, no hidden gem. Just sit this one out.
Rusty.
