Table - best surf conditions forecast for Swanage over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next 16 days are a proper struggle for surf around Swanage. If you’re looking for a wave, you’re going to be waiting a long time. The whole window is a write-off for any real surfing. The earliest we see even a hint of something is Thursday the 9th of July, and it’s a flat, 0.3ft ripple with a lousy cross-shore wind. Honestly, it’s not worth paddling out for.
From the 9th right through to the 24th of July, the story is the same: small, weak, and messy. The data shows waves that barely break, with onshore or cross-onshore winds ruining any chance of a clean face. There’s a little bump of 3ft to 4ft around Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th, but it’s short-period, choppy, and blown out by fresh onshore winds. The combined energy barely gets into the moderate range, hitting 116 on Sunday afternoon, but it’s a lumpy, onshore mess. The water is running about 65°F, which is much warmer than average for this time of year, so at least you won’t freeze while you’re staring at the flatness.
The last week of the outlook is all offshore winds, but the swell is pathetic. You’ll see glassy conditions on the morning of Tuesday the 21st of July, with a tiny 0.3ft wave—that’s a lake, not a surf break. The offshore winds and clean conditions from the 17th to the 24th are a tease, but with no swell to work with, it’s a cruel joke. The best of a bad bunch is Friday the 17th of July: a clean 4ft to 4ft swell from the SW, with a light offshore in the morning. The combined energy sits at 113–150, which is moderate, but the period is only 6 seconds. That’s windswell, short and shifty, and with Swanage being a very sheltered, rarely breaking spot, it’s a gamble whether it’ll even line up. The crowd is “sometimes” there, but honestly, with this forecast, you’ll have the place to yourself.
There are no standout days. Nothing pumps. The best advice I can give is to keep an eye on the charts, because it tends not to stay this poor forever, but for now, leave the board in the van. This is a blank run, plain and simple.
Rusty.
