Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright mate, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this is one of those outlooks where we’re looking at a proper flat spell. Swanage is the only spot on the menu, and honestly, for the next couple of weeks, it’s barely gonna ripple.
The water is sitting at 64° right now, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a weird one, over 5° above normal. Almost feels like a summer bath. But the surf? It’s not delivering.
We’re looking at a long, frustrating gap here. From Friday 3rd July all the way through to at least Thursday 16th July, the swell is just a whisper – mostly 0.3ft to 1.0ft with combined energy barely hitting double digits (mostly between 1 and 16). That’s flat, mate. There’s no punch, no power. On Wednesday 8th July, we get a glassy morning with a 0.7ft swell and a period of only 4 seconds – that’s junk. The wind is light from the SSW, so it’ll look clean and pretty, but you’ll be floating.
Thursday 9th turns a bit ugly with a NE cross-onshore breeze creating chop on a 0.3ft wave. Friday 10th is the worst of it – onshore wind from the east at 19 mph with the same tiny swell. Don’t even bother. Kite surfers might enjoy the wind, but us paddle folk are skunked.
The only flicker of something slightly bigger comes on Friday 17th July. We’ve got a 2ft swell from the east with a 4-second period – so, short and messy – but the combined energy hits 13. That’s still weak, but it’s the most we’ve seen in the whole forecast. Winds are cross-off from the WNW, so it should be clean. That afternoon, it drops to 1.0ft but the energy bumps to 21. Still, don’t get your hopes up. Swanage (United Kingdom) is a very sheltered spot and it rarely breaks as it is, so a run of flat days like this is pretty normal.
If you’re desperate, wait for that Friday 17th July morning window. It’s the only thing close to rideable, but call it a long shot. Otherwise, leave the boards in the shed.
Rusty.
