Praa Sands Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Praa Sands over the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, so don’t go getting your hopes up too high for the next few days, but there are a couple of windows where it could actually turn on.

We kick things off with some messy, onshore slop. Wednesday and Thursday are going to be pretty grim – lumpy, cross-shore winds and waves that are all over the place. The water temp is sitting right around what you’d expect for this time of year, so no drama there, but the surf just isn’t doing us any favours. It’s a beach break, and with this kind of westerly wind putting a chop on it, it’s just not going to be worth the paddle.

We’ve got a bit of a lull over the weekend into Monday. The swell is dropping right off, but there’s a decent window on Monday morning. The wind goes glassy, and we’ve got a clean 4ft of west swell pushing through. It’s small, and the energy is weak (411), but if you’re a beginner or just want a splash around on a longboard, that’s your best bet in this first stretch.

The standout, though, is a week from now. Sunday the 27th is looking properly good. The winds are light and offshore, the swell pushes up to 7ft and it’s got a bit of grunt behind it, moderate energy with a reading of 1242. It’s glassy, clean, and the kind of day that makes you want to call in sick. It’s a bit more size, so not for the faint-hearted, but for anyone with a bit of experience, that’s the one to circle.

Before that, we’ve got a couple of days where it’s just ordinary. The 25th is tiny, barely a ripple, and the 26th is even smaller. You’ll be surfing whitewash. Then that Sunday arrives, and it’s a proper change of pace. The swell direction is W, matching what Praa wants on a low tide, and the offshore breeze keeps it clean all day.

After that, Monday the 28th holds some size, but the wind is up, blowing a good 30 km/h cross-off. It’s still clean, but it’s got that raw, powerful feel to it, and the energy is strong. It might be a bit much for the average punter, more of a charger’s wave.

Into the final couple of days, Tuesday and Wednesday, the swell backs off a bit but there’s still something to ride. The winds stay offshore, coming from the east, and it’s clean, but it’s not got the same magic as that Sunday. It’s more about picking your moment and finding a bank that’s holding.

So, overall, there’s some junk to wade through early on, but that Sunday the 27th is the clear winner. Get it in your diary. The second week is a bit more hit-and-miss, but there’s always something to look at.
