Table - best surf conditions forecast for Mangamaunu over the next 16 days.
Alright mates, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming for Mangamaunu over the next couple of weeks.
We’re starting off slow, but there’s some real meat later on. Water temp is about 52°F, which is a little warmer than usual for this time of year, so not too bad.
The first few days are pretty quiet. Small, weak swell with combined energy under 200 (weak). There’s a tiny pulse on Sunday the 12th morning with a clean 3ft S swell at 12 seconds, but it’s small. The wind is offshore from the NNW at 5 km/h, so it’ll be clean. That’s the best of the early stuff, but it’s not much.
Then we hit a real lull from Monday the 13th through to Thursday the 17th. Swell drops to almost nothing, with energy in the double digits. Not worth suiting up.
Now, here’s the good stuff. Friday the 17th morning is the first real standout. Clean 3ft groundswell from the ESE, with a 16-second period – that’s long-period energy. Combined energy is a solid 565 (moderate). Wind is light offshore from the WSW, so it’ll be glassy and lined up. This point break will love that long period. Crowds are rare, which is a bonus. This is your best early option.
The weekend of the 18th and 19th gets big, maybe too big. Saturday the 18th has 10ft of SSW swell, but with a short 8-second period, so it’ll be messy. The wind is offshore and strong at 25 km/h, so it’ll be clean, but that’s expert territory only. The combined energy is massive – 2789 (strong).
Sunday the 19th is the real standout of the whole forecast. The morning has 7ft of S groundswell, a 14-second period, and combined energy of 2119 (strong). Wind is light offshore from the WNW. The afternoon goes glassy with 6ft from the same direction. This is excellent for experienced surfers – long, powerful, clean lines. If you can handle it, this is the session.
After that, the swell eases through the last week of July. Monday the 20th morning still has a nice 5ft S swell at 12 seconds with offshore wind, but it’s a step down. There are a few more clean windows on the 23rd and 24th, with 5-6ft E/ENE swell, but the period drops a bit. Thursday the 23rd afternoon looks clean and glassy with a 6ft ENE swell – a solid runner.
So, first week is a bust, but from the 17th onward, there’s some serious quality. The 17th morning and the 19th are your best bets. Get out there.
