Table - best surf conditions forecast for Mangamaunu over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty talkin’. We’re dialed in on Mangamaunu, a real gem of a point break. Right now, the ocean is a bit of a mess, but we have got some serious action coming down the line. Hang tight.
The water temp is runnin’ about 52.7°F, which is pretty standard for this time of year, nothin’ wild there.
The next few days are a bit of a write-off, honestly. Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are a battle with strong cross-off winds and rain. The swell is solid, around 6.2ft to 8.2ft, but the wind is tearin’ it up. Friday the 10th morning, it cleans up a treat with a light offshore, but the swell is a pumped-up 8.2ft from the ESE – that’s expert territory and will be a handful. By Friday afternoon the conditions slip back a bit. Saturday the 11th morning looks magic with glassy conditions and a more manageable 4.9ft swell from the east. It’s clean, the wave energy is moderate (733), and that’s a good window for the advanced crew. After that, we hit a flat spell. From Sunday the 12th right through to Wednesday the 15th, it’s tiny, with weak energy readings (down to 31), and not worth paddling out for.
Now, here is where it gets interesting. From Thursday the 16th, a proper pulse of energy fills in. That morning sees 5.6ft, but it’s still a little messy. The real show kicks off on Saturday the 18th. We’ve got a beast of a swell hitting 13.1ft from the ESE with an offshore wind. The combined wave energy is massive (4506), but that size is only for the pros – this ain’t a beginner wave. It’s big, powerful, and the point will be pumping. Then Sunday the 19th, it eases to a still-chunky 11.5ft with a nice offshore wind. That’s a standout session for experienced surfers, with excellent conditions and a solid energy (4601).
The best bet? Look at Tuesday, July 22nd and Wednesday, July 23rd. That’s when we get a perfect blend of big, clean swell and glassy conditions. Tuesday the 22nd morning has a 9.8ft ESE groundswell with a period of 12 seconds and a clean offshore. Wednesday the 23rd morning is absolute glass – no wind at all, 7.5ft from the ESE, and a long 11-second period. That long-period swell loves a point break, so the shape should be world-class. This is a long-range call, so keep an eye on it, but it looks like the window of the whole forecast.
Short Range ForecastModerate rain (total 11mm), heaviest on Wed night. Mild temperatures (max 9°C on Wed night, min 4°C on Thu night). Winds decreasing (fresh winds from the SSW on Wed night, calm by Sat morning). | Days 5-7 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Very mild (max 15°C on Tue morning, min 6°C on Sat night).
