Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cronulla Point over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Looking at the coming fortnight at Cronulla Point, it’s a slow start with a lot of small, weak, and messy days before a real standout window arrives mid-month. The water temp is sitting around 63.5°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year – nothing wild there.
The first few days – Sunday the 12th through to Tuesday the 14th – are a write-off. Tiny dribbles of swell, mostly under 1.6 ft, with cross-off and cross winds making it a non-event. The combined energy is barely registering (62 and dropping to 13), so don’t bother paddling out. There’s a gap of about three days with no real surf to speak of.
Things start to get interesting on Wednesday the 15th. A solid 7.2 ft to 9.8 ft S swell rolls in, with a period of 9 to 10 seconds, and it’s blowing offshore from the SSW – fresh and clean. The combined energy jumps to 724 and then 1747, so there’s plenty of grunt. This is big, powerful stuff, and at 9.8 ft it’s expert-only territory. The point will be handling it well, but it’s not for the faint-hearted. The offshore wind is a major positive, leaving the waves lined up. Thursday the 16th holds size around 7.5 ft to 6.2 ft, but the wind swings cross-off from the SSE, and the period drops to 7 seconds, making it a bit lumpy and less organised. Still surfable for the experienced, but not as crisp.
The standout window? Without a doubt, Sunday the 19th. Early morning sees a 9.8 ft E swell with an 11-second period, combined energy cranked up to 2455 – that’s a serious amount of power. The wind is light cross-off from the SSE, and by afternoon it’s glassy with a light SE breeze at 6 mph. The waves are big, clean, and well-shaped, perfect for those who know what they’re doing. This is the best on offer. The swell direction (E) isn’t a perfect match for the optimum SE, but the quality and consistency make it a true standout.
Monday the 20th drops to 7.2 ft with a light cross-shore, and Tuesday the 21st hangs around 5.9 ft, both clean but noticeably smaller. By Wednesday the 22nd, the swell settles to 4.9 ft with a light offshore from the SSW – a nice, manageable size for a fun session, but not the standout.
The second week fades out. From Thursday the 23rd onward, the swell drops below 3.6 ft, and combined energy sinks to 318 and lower. Winds are light, but the waves are small and weak. Saturday the 25th has a tiny 1.6 ft E swell with a 11-second period, but it’s barely worth a mention. By Sunday the 26th and Monday the 27th, it’s down to 1.3 ft and 1.0 ft with energy in the double digits – just a flat spell.
So, the pick of the crop is Sunday the 19th at Cronulla Point – big, clean, and powerful. Get ready for that one.
