Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cronulla Point over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Cronulla Point.
The next week and a half is a bit of a mixed bag. We’re looking at a real slow start, then a solid pulse of south swell mid-week that’ll get the blood pumping, followed by a long stretch of smaller, wind-affected waves. The standout is clearly Wednesday morning, July 15th, for the experienced crew.
First up, there’s nothing doing on Monday afternoon or Tuesday. Flat to tiny, poor conditions. You’re better off doing something else.
Then Wednesday morning, July 15th, is the one. Cronulla Point wakes up with a solid 7ft south swell, period around 10 seconds, and a clean 15 km/h SSW offshore wind. The water temp is sitting at 17°, which is pretty much average for this time of year. The combined energy is pumping at 1488, so there’s plenty of grunt in the water. For the advanced surfer, this is excellent – big, clean lines peeling down the point. Just be aware, with crowds often here, you won’t be alone. Wednesday afternoon drops off a touch, still surfable but more marginal.
Thursday morning, July 16th, holds in with a 7ft south swell, but the period drops to 8 seconds, so it’s a bit more of a wind swell, bumpy. Wind is a solid 25 km/h offshore from the SSW, so it’ll be clean, but that shorter period makes it less shapey. Energy is still high at 898. Thursday afternoon gets messy with strong onshore winds, so give it a miss.
From Friday, July 17th, onwards, it’s a real slow decline. Friday has some small, rain-affected 3ft south swell, but it’s ordinary. The weekend through the following week is mostly smaller, weak easterly swell, in the 3ft to 4ft range, with a lot of cross-shore or onshore wind. Energy levels drop right off, into the hundreds. You’ll get a few clean windows here and there, like Monday afternoon, July 20th, with a light offshore, but it’s just small and weak.
The end of the forecast period, around the 24th to the 28th of July, shows more small easterly swell, 3ft to 4ft, with strong offshore winds. It’ll be clean, but the waves are tiny and the period is long, so it’ll be a bit straight and slow. Not worth getting excited about.
So, bottom line: if you’re an experienced surfer, do not miss Wednesday morning, July 15th. That’s the only real stand-out. Everything else is small, weak, or wind-affected.
Rusty.
