Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cronulla Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, I’ll be honest with you. The first week or so is a total bust. We’ve got a real dry patch from now through the middle of the month, with nothing but tiny, weak leftovers sloshing around. Not worth getting your wettie on for. The energy just isn’t there.
Then it finally kicks into gear around Wednesday, July 15th. The south swell pushes in proper, and Cronulla Point lights up. You’re looking at clean 6ft to 7ft southerly groundswell, with an offshore breeze keeping everything tidy. The combined wave energy jumps right up (849-867) and the period sits at a solid 10 seconds, so there’s proper grunt behind each set. This is the first real standout of the run. Thursday the 16th keeps it going with 6ft southerly swell, a touch shorter period (8 seconds), but still clean with the offshore wind. Not quite as good as Wednesday, but still a hell of a lot better than what you’ve been looking at.
After that, it drops off again. Small, messy days. A little east swell tries to show on the 18th with light winds, but nothing to get excited about.
Now, the real magic is further out. We’ve got a serious pulse lining up for Monday, July 21st at Cronulla Point. A solid 8ft east swell, with an 11-second period, and the wind is clean offshore from the south. The combined energy is massive (1369). This is expert territory – that size on a point break with that period will be grinding, powerful, and not for the faint of heart. For the experienced crew, this could be the session of the run.
The next day, Tuesday the 22nd, holds onto similar 6ft east swell with clean conditions and light winds. Still very good. And then Thursday the 24th turns up with an absolute beast: 8ft south-east groundswell with a 13-second period and glassy conditions. The energy reading is off the charts (2813). That’s a long-period groundswell, so it’ll wrap beautifully around the point, but at that size, it’s for experts only. Crowds are always likely at Cronulla Point when it’s good, and on days like this, you can count on plenty of company. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, sitting around 64°F.
So, to wrap it up: the first week is a write-off. Wednesday the 15th is your first proper chance to get wet. But the real standouts are Monday the 21st and Thursday the 24th of July. Big, powerful, clean swells. Mark those dates. Lock them in.
Rusty.
