The Lowdown
Alright, let's see what Cronulla Point has in store for the next couple of weeks.
First thing's first, the start is a total no-go. Thursday the 16th you've got a 7ft south swell, but it's short period junk at 7 seconds, and a howling 22 mph south wind is making it ugly. The water temp is 62°, about a degree colder than normal for this time of year, so you'll want the thick suit. The energy's moderate (567), but the quality just ain't there.
Friday and Saturday are a complete washout with tiny waves and poor conditions. Sunday the 19th is where we get our first real look. An ENE swell builds to 5ft to 6ft with a 10 second period, the wind goes light, and the energy jumps to strong levels (612-754). The forecast says "very good surf conditions." That Sunday morning with the light S wind is your clean window.
Now, hold onto your board, because there's a standout session coming. Circle Friday the 24th of July. That afternoon, the point comes alive. A solid 7ft south swell with a 10 second period, the wind goes offshore light from the SW at just 3 mph, and the combined energy cranks to 1583. That's a powerful groundswell, and it's gonna be firing down the point. The catch is the size: at nearly 7ft, this is for the experienced crew only. The crowds at Cronulla Point can get heavy, but on a weekday afternoon with that kind of juice, it'll sort the men from the boys.
The second week is a bit of a mixed bag with some swings in wind and size. There's a few other moments, like the morning of the 30th with a 5ft south swell and a gentle offshore, but nothing holds a candle to that Friday the 24th.
If you've got the skills, your only play is that Friday the 24th. That's the standout of the whole 16 days. The earlier Sunday the 19th is a fine option for a cleaner, smaller session.
