The Lowdown
Alright, mate. Rusty here with a look at what’s coming down the line for Bronte Beach over the next couple weeks.
Now, let’s be straight up — the start of this outlook ain’t looking flash. Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th are pretty rough, with cross-onshore winds and poor surf conditions. That south-easterly flow is blowing straight across the waves, making for choppy, messy water. There’s some energy around — moderate combined swell energy (141 on Saturday morning) — but the wind’s just wrecking it, and a short 6-second period on top means no real shape. Sunday kicks up bigger, around 6 ft, with strong combined energy (1049), but still cross-on and messy.
The first real glimmer comes Monday morning the 20th. That’s when things turn around. A clean, light offshore from the west-northwest sets up Bronte nicely. Swell sits at 5 ft from the east-northeast with a moderate 10-second period, and combined energy is strong at 687. This is a standout for the more advanced surfer — the water’s about a degree colder than average at 62°F, so don’t forget the rubber. The wind stays clean, and with Bronte being exposed to the swell, you’ll see some decent lines coming through. Tuesday morning the 21st will also offer clean waves at 4 ft from the same direction, with 369 combined energy, though the afternoons both those days turn ugly with the nor’easterly kicking up cross-on chop.
Wednesday the 22nd is worth paddling out for the afternoon glass-off. It goes glassy with a light north-northwest breeze, waves around 3 ft from the east-northeast at 9 seconds, and combined energy of 289. Clean, small, and fun on a longboard.
Thursday the 23rd is a write-off — huge wind from the south, 10 ft of lumpy, cross-shore slop. That’s one for the kites, not the paddle crew.
Now Friday the 24th — that’s a real highlight. Morning offshore from the west, clean and light, with 6 ft of southerly swell coming through at a 10-second period. Combined energy is 725. That’s a solid groundswell, well shaped, and for advanced surfers, this is a proper session. The offshore will hold it up nicely at Bronte.
Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th mornings are also clean and surfable, with morning offshores or cross-offshore breezes. Waves hang around the 4 ft to 5 ft range, combined energy in the 350–420 zone. Decent follow-up days.
Monday the 27th is clean again in the morning with a moderate westerly offshore, 3 ft of south swell, 271 combined energy. Manageable.
From there, the wind turns nasty from Tuesday the 28th onward — strong south-southwesterly winds, rain, and messy conditions until the end of the month. There’s a bit of size on the 29th with 6 ft from the south (755 combined energy) and again on the 30th, but the wind is howling. Not recommended.
Finally, into the first days of August — Saturday the 1st shows 6 ft from the southeast in the morning, clean with gentle breezes. That afternoon, size jumps to 12 ft from the east — combined energy at 1402 — but that’s big, expert-only territory and marginal conditions. Sunday the 2nd morning is the real last standout: 6 ft from the east-southeast, 10-second period, light offshore from the west, combined energy at 905. Clean, punchy, and well worth a session for anyone with experience.
Overall, Monday 20th, Wednesday 22nd afternoon, and Friday 24th morning are the picks at Bronte Beach. The rest of the run is either wind-affected or too big for comfort.
Rusty.
