Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Bronte Beach.
We’ve got a bit of a wait on our hands, honestly. The first couple of days are pretty flat and not worth the walk down the cliff. Don’t even bother checking the cam until Saturday the 4th.
That Saturday morning, the 4th of July, is where we finally get a little pulse. It’s not going to blow your mind, but for a quickie, it’s clean. We’ve got a S swell pushing in at 4ft from a period of 12 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate (333). Water temp is sitting at 65°, bang on normal for this time of year. The real kicker is that light offshore W wind at 9 mph – glassy, clean as a whistle. Bronte is exposed to S swell and it loves that SE direction, so the combo is working. Conditions are gentle offshore and clean. Saturday arvo, the wind swings SE and it gets choppy, so make the most of the morning.
Sunday the 5th is a big jump in size but it gets messy. Morning shows a S swell at 10ft, short-period 11 seconds, and combined energy is strong (2050). That’s well over 8ft, so this is strictly for the experienced crew. The wind is a cross-off SSW at 22 mph, so it’s clean enough, but that’s a lot of water moving. Sunday arvo turns into a lumpy cross-chop mess with SSE wind. Not recommended for paddle surfing – that strong wind and big swell combo is more of a kite-surfing show.
Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th stay big but crotchety. You’ve got 8ft to 10ft of S/SSE swell, periods around 10 seconds, and combined energy staying strong (1086–3342). The wind is either cross or cross-off, so while it’s not totally blown out, it’s never really clean and glassy either. It’s marginal, with a lot of chop and lump. Only for solid wave riders.
We get another decent window on the morning of Saturday the 11th. That S/SSE swell backs off to 5ft at 10 seconds, combined energy moderate (375). The wind goes back to a light W offshore at 9 mph – clean, gentle, and glassy. This is your best bet for a fun, manageable session without the chaos. It’s not huge, but it’s clean and the water will be smoother.
Midweek in the second week, from Monday the 13th onward, we fall off a cliff. The swell drops to 1ft to 2ft for a couple days, combined energy weak (46–60). Not worth paddling out. Then from Tuesday the 14th, the ocean turns back on but it’s a rowdy, expert-only affair: 8ft to 12ft of S swell, periods of 9 seconds, combined energy strong (956–2833). Wind is offshore or cross-off but strong at 19–22 mph.
The real standout of the whole forecast lands on Sunday the 19th of July. This one is worth circling on the calendar. We’ve got a solid 12ft S/SSE swell, period 10 seconds, combined energy very strong (3739). The wind? A light SW offshore at just 9 mph – glassy and clean as a mirror. The morning is described as excellent for experienced surfers. Bronte, being exposed to S swell and getting that offshore wind, will be set. This is the call – best on offer for the whole run.
Saturday the 18th arvo is huge too, 12ft SSE with long period 11 seconds, but the wind is a fresh cross-shore and it’ll be lumpy. Still, the energy is massive (5701), so experienced chargers may want a look.
So to sum it up: get wet Saturday morning the 4th for a clean small session, or wait it out for Sunday the 19th for the big clean day. Everything else is either flat, messy, or for the hardcore only.
Rusty.
