The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get real about what’s coming down the line for the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got one spot on the radar, and it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Bronte Beach is your only option here, and it’s not going to be a straight-up classic. We’re looking at a lot of marginal conditions, but there are a couple of windows that’ll get your blood pumping, especially if you're an advanced surfer.
The swell energy starts off moderate on Wednesday the 15th with a 8ft S swell at 9 seconds, but it’s accompanied by a strong 19 mph cross-off wind. The combined energy’s sitting at 904 (moderate), but the wind is going to make it a messy, choppy affair. The water temp is 63°, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Thursday the 16th is a write-off, and Friday the 17th just doesn’t deliver. We’re looking at a few days of weak, small swell and terrible wind. Saturday the 18th is a mess too. Honestly, it’s a bit of a dry spell.
The first real standout window is Monday the 20th. The morning session is where it’s at. We’ve got a 5ft ENE swell with a 10-second period, and the wind is a light 3 mph cross-off from the NNW. It’s going to be glassy clean. The combined energy is 587 (moderate), and the quality is described as “very good.” This is the best on offer for the whole run. The only buzzkill is that Bronte is inconsistent, so you might be waiting for the sets. Also, it can get crowded sometimes, so get there early.
Tuesday the 21st morning is also a good call, with a 5ft ENE swell and light NW wind at 6 mph, keeping it clean. It’s a solid backup.
The next real highlight pops up a week later, on Sunday the 26th. The morning is looking good with a 5ft S swell, but the period is a short 6 seconds, which is a bit weak. The wind is a light 6 mph offshore from the W, so it’ll be clean. The combined energy is 362 (moderate), and it’s rated as “good” conditions. For a longer-range call, this is promising but not as certain as the Monday morning window.
Everything else in the second week is small, weak, or chopped up. The last few days of the month are basically flat and not worth paddling out for.
So, bottom line: if you’re a local, the Monday 20th morning is your best bet for a clean, decent wave. The Sunday 26th is a long-shot but worth keeping an eye on. For the rest, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty out.
