The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking at what’s coming up for Bondi Beach over the next couple of weeks. And I gotta be straight with you – it’s a pretty slow start. We’ve got a few days of nothing really worth paddling out for, but the second week does start to show some promise.
The first proper window we can talk about is Sunday, July 26th. That’s the one that catches my eye. We’ve got a solid 8ft swell rolling in from the south, with a 12-second period. The combined energy is pumping hard at (3258), which is strong stuff. Early morning, we’ve got a light SW wind making it a cross-shore, so it’ll be a bit lumpy, but the size is there. This is a big day – that 8ft is getting into expert territory, so if you’re not confident, maybe give it a miss. The afternoon drops a touch to 8ft, but the wind swings onshore, so the morning is the pick for the crew who know what they’re doing.
Before that, it’s a bit of a grind. Friday, July 24th is a decent little session. The morning sees a 5ft south swell, with a light offshore wind from the west. That’s clean, and the energy is moderate (326). The afternoon is even better with a 5ft swell and a light offshore from the NNW. That’s a good combo for Bondi – clean, lined-up waves for the experienced intermediate crowd.
The rest of the first week is mostly small, weak, or windy. We’ve got a few days of tiny surf, like 1ft to 2ft, and some decent offshore winds, but it’s just too small to get excited about. The wind really cranks up on the 23rd and 25th, making things messy.
Looking into the second week, Sunday, August 2nd is worth a mention. A 5ft south swell with a 10-second period, and a light offshore wind in the morning. The energy is moderate (427), and it’ll be clean. Not a standout like the 26th, but a solid, fun morning surf.
Water temperature is sitting at 63°F, which is about 1°F below the average for this time of year. It’s a touch cool, but nothing out of the ordinary.
So, if you’re looking for the best of the best, clear your calendar for Sunday morning, July 26th. That’s the big one. The Friday, July 24th afternoon session is a close second for a cleaner, smaller wave. The rest is a waiting game.
Rusty.
