Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it for the Bondi Beach stretch. Look, it's a bit of a mixed bag for the next couple of weeks, so let's be straight with what's on offer.
We're looking at a pretty rough start. The first solid window of surfable waves doesn't really show until early on the 4th of July, but even then, it's marginal. Saturday morning will see a clean 3.6ft S swell at 12 seconds, but the energy is weak (319). The water's sitting at 65.3°, which is about average for this time of year. A gentle westerly cross-off will keep things tidy for a beginner-friendly paddle, but the conditions are better described as marginal than pumping. After that, it's a write-off for days. From Saturday afternoon right through to the morning of Friday, 10th July, we have a long stretch of poor surf with onshore winds and lumpy, messy conditions. There's some seriously big energy in the water on the 5th (over 2000), but it's all wind-affected junk. Honestly, those sessions are a hard pass.
The first real standout window kicks off on Friday, 10th July. The morning is the pick of the whole run. The swell has settled to a clean 7.2ft from the SE with a nice 11-second period, and the wind is glassy – totally off. The combined energy is moderate (1051), but that glassy surface will make for some excellent, clean walls. It's a bit heavy for beginners at that size, but for anyone with some experience, this is the time. The afternoon stays clean with a light NE cross-off, though the swell drops a notch to 6.9ft and the period shortens to 10 seconds.
Saturday the 11th delivers another decent option. The morning is clean with a cross-off NW breeze, but the swell has backed off to 4.9ft from the SE (10 secs, 429 energy). It's a bit marginal for quality, but the afternoon is where it's at: a light NW offshore wind will groom a similar 4.6ft SE swell, making for some clean, fun waves. It won't be big, but it will be good.
The following week looks much smaller. Sunday the 12th has a clean, moderate offshore wind (N and NNW) but the swell is down to 2.9ft and 2.6ft. Surfable, but very ordinary. From Monday the 13th through Thursday the 17th, the swell disappears completely – we're talking flat or tiny 0.7ft to 2.0ft slop. A big blank run.
Then, look out for Saturday, 18th July. The afternoon session shows a massive 11.5ft S swell with 9-second period and a light cross-shore wind. The energy is high (1877), but the call is that the swell is predicted to be too big for this break. Sunday the 19th is even bigger: 14.8ft on the morning with a clean cross-off, and 13.1ft in the afternoon. The energy readings are massive (5118 and 3917), but again, this is too big for Bondi. For experienced surfers who know the bank, it might be a spectacle, but for most, it's dangerous.
The Bottom Line: The real standout is the glassy morning of Friday, 10th July. After that, clean but smaller options on the afternoon of Saturday the 11th. The massive swell on the 18th and 19th is for experts only, if anyone at all.
