Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bondi Beach over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here, and I've got the look ahead for Bondi Beach.
Honestly, the next week or so is a bit of a mixed bag. We've got a solid pulse of swell coming through, but the wind's going to be a problem for the most part. Let's break it down.
We kick off on Wednesday the 8th with a bit of a dud. The swell is a chunky 8 ft from the SE, with a 10-second period, but a stiff 16 mph cross-onshore southerly has it chopped up and messy. The wave energy is strong (1669). Thursday the 9th isn't much better; the swell drops to 6 ft, but the wind is still onshore. Friday the 10th is a write-off with rain and cross-onshore wind.
Now, things start looking up on Saturday the 11th. The morning has clean conditions with a gentle 9 mph offshore from the NW. The swell is a smaller 4 ft from the SE, but it's clean and you'll find some fun ones. That's a surfable window, though not a standout.
Sunday the 12th through to Tuesday the 14th are tiny, with swell dropping below 2 ft. The energy is weak (figures in the 20s and 30s). A definite gap with nothing to recommend.
We get a little spike on Wednesday the 15th but it's on a short, weak 5-second period from the SW. Forget it.
Now, here's the main event. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th see a big S swell arriving. We're talking 10 ft at a long 13-second period. The wave energy is massive (over 3000). However, this is where we have to be careful. At 10 ft, this is expert territory only—too big for beginners and a serious handful for anyone. Plus, the wind on Thursday afternoon is a gentle cross-onshore, not ideal. On Friday morning, it's a 9 mph cross-shore breeze. The period is long (12-13 seconds), so it'll be powerful, with long lulls between sets. This is for experienced crew who know the bank.
The true standout comes on Saturday the 18th. The swell has dropped to a much more manageable 6 ft from the S, with a solid 11-second period. The wave energy is moderate (723). The wind? It's a light 6 mph offshore from the W. That means glassy, clean lines. This is the call for the week. Get on it.
The swell then fades through the following days, but there's another interesting pulse late in the outlook. On Monday the 20th (that's over a week away), a fresh 7 ft S swell picks up with an 8-second period. The kicker is a 9 mph offshore from the NNW. This is a promising call from the long-range, so mark it on the calendar but don't bet the house on it yet. Over 8 ft, so it's steep for beginners.
So, the clear peak is Saturday the 18th. That's your session. The Thursday and Friday big swell is for experts only, and even then, conditions aren't perfect.
Keep an eye on the sky, and I'll see you out there.
Rusty.
