Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coogee over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Coogee has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a wait on our hands. The first few days are a write-off. Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are looking pretty average with messy, cross-shore winds and waves that just aren't holding together. The water temp is sitting at 63°, which is pretty much where you'd expect it for this time of year.
The first real glimmer of hope comes early on Saturday morning, July 11th. We’ll see a clean 4ft swell from the SE with a light cross-offshore breeze from the NW. The energy is weak (370), so it’s not going to be pumping, but it’ll be a fun, small-wave session for those who just need to get wet. Saturday afternoon turns ugly with a NE onshore chop, so make it a dawn patrol.
Things go flat and quiet from Sunday the 12th right through until Tuesday the 14th. We’re talking knee-high dribble at best, with hardly any energy in the water. A proper dead spell.
We get a nasty spike of energy on Wednesday the 15th with a big, short-period S swell (4ft to 10ft) but it’s accompanied by a near-gale force SSE wind. The sea state will be a complete mess. That trend continues into the middle of the next week with huge, powerful swells (16ft and up) from the SSE, but the wind stays onshore and howling. The combined energy readings are massive (over 5000, and even 6518 on the 18th), but it's all just blown-out chaos. This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Now, for the standout. Sunday the 19th of July. The swell drops back to a solid 10ft from the SE, and the wind finally eases. The period stretches out to 11 seconds, giving it some proper groundswell grunt. The energy is still strong (2591), but with a gentle cross-shore breeze, the sets will be lined up and clean. This is only for experienced surfers, as anything over 8ft is expert territory. It’s a big, powerful ocean, but the conditions will be the best we’ve seen in a long time.
The following Monday morning, the 20th, is also worth a look. The swell drops to 6ft from the SE, but we get a clean, light cross-offshore breeze from the WNW. The energy is still moderate (812), and the waves will be far more manageable. A great option for the advanced crew who might have found Sunday a bit too heavy.
The last real highlight is on Friday the 24th. We’ve got a nice 7ft SE groundswell (11 seconds) with a clean cross-offshore breeze from the WNW. The energy is moderate (1043), and the conditions are set to be excellent for experienced surfers. It’s a long way out, so it’s promising but less certain, but it’s definitely one to keep an eye on.
Rusty.
