Righto, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Coogee’s got cookin’ over the next couple of weeks.

First things first, the water temp is sittin’ about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but there’s a solid window of surfable waves if you pick your moments.

The best bet across the whole forecast is Friday morning, July 10. That’s when we get a sweet 6ft southeast swell, 9-second period, and glassy conditions with barely a breath of wind. Combined wave energy is moderate at 513, and the wind is dead calm – glassy as it gets. That’ll be the cleanest, most user-friendly session of the week. Friday afternoon holds up too with 5ft and still glassy, so if you miss the morning, the arvo’s still worth a paddle.

Thursday, July 9 is a write-off – cross-shore wind, lumpy, and marginal. Save your energy.

Saturday morning, July 11, the swell drops to 4ft, but it’s clean with a cross-offshore breeze from the northwest. Combined energy is 367, so still some push. Decent enough for a paddle if you’re keen, but not a standout. Saturday afternoon gets messy with cross-onshore winds and choppy surface – skip it.

Sunday, July 12, the swell tanks hard. Only 2ft in the morning with a fresh offshore wind. Clean but tiny – barely worth wettin’ a wetsuit. Monday and Tuesday look similarly small, with weak energy readings in the double digits. Not much happening.

Then we get a big spike Wednesday, July 15 – an 8ft southerly swell rolls in, but the period is a short and bumpy 7 seconds, and the cross-offshore wind is near gale force at 34 mph. Combined energy is strong at 713, but it’s gonna be a washing machine. This one’s for experts only, and honestly, even then it’s more of a kite-surfing show than a paddle session.

Thursday, July 16 through to Saturday, July 18 is gale-force, messy, and dangerous. Large cross-shore swells up to 8ft, but the wind is screaming 31–40 mph. Not for surfing. Keep the board in the car.

Sunday, July 19 sees things calm – 3ft to 3ft, but the wind is still cross or cross-off, and the energy is weak to moderate (281–222). Marginal at best.

Now here’s your second standout: Monday morning, July 20. We’ve got 3ft swell from the south with a very long 12-second period, and a clean offshore breeze from the west. Combined energy is 266 – moderate, but that long period means the waves’ll have shape and power. Coogee can handle that south groundswell on the point, so paddle the point break for some clean lines. Crowds are sometimes an issue here, so get in early.

After that, from Tuesday, July 21 onward, it’s flat or near flat. Tiny swells, weak energy, and cross-shore wind. You’re lookin’ at a solid four to five days of nothing worth paddlin’ for. The last couple of days in the forecast show barely 0.7ft – dead.

So in a nutshell: Friday, July 10 morning is your absolute best shot – glassy, clean, chest-high SE swell. Monday, July 20 morning is the other bright spot with better wave shape on the point. Everything else is either too small, too windy, or too gnarly for a good paddle.

Stay frothy,
Rusty
