The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at Coogee.
First up, the water is sitting at 62° – that’s a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you’ll want a decent spring suit.
Right now, through Friday and into the weekend, it’s pretty grim. The swell is small and short period, and the wind is onshore or cross-shore, so it’s chopped up and messy. Friday morning has a weak 3ft south swell at 6 seconds, and the energy is hardly there (108). Not worth paddling out. The rest of the weekend is similar, with the wind picking up, making things choppy.
The real standout is Monday morning, 20 July. The wind goes light and cross-offshore from the NW, and we get a clean 5ft swell from the ENE at 10 seconds. The energy hits 631 (moderate), and the conditions are looking very good. That’s the pick of the window. Get it before the afternoon seabreeze messes it up.
Tuesday morning, 21 July, is also worth a look – clean offshore NNW wind, 4ft ENE swell at 10 seconds, energy at 395. It’s a step down from Monday, but still a solid, clean session.
After that, we drop right off. The week from Wednesday 22 July through to the end of the month is mostly small, weak, or onshore slop. There’s a brief moment on Saturday 25 July morning with a very clean 1ft swell, but it’s a long-period S groundswell at 19 seconds. That’s tiny, and the energy is only 241. Not really enough to get excited about.
Then there’s a long gap of poor to ordinary surf until the 1st of August. Saturday morning, 1 August, looks promising again with a clean offshore W wind at 16 mph, a 3ft S swell at 13 seconds, and energy of 371 – moderate. Conditions are good, but it’s a week and a half away, so keep an eye on it.
Overall, the only two standout sessions are Monday morning, 20 July, and Tuesday morning, 21 July. Everything else is either small, onshore, or just plain average. Don’t waste your time on the weekend.
Rusty.
