Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coogee over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab a coffee and listen up. Rusty here with the Coogee outlook.
It’s gonna be a bit of a slow start this week. The first few days are small with clean conditions, but nothing really worth paddling out for. The real action doesn’t kick off until July 15th, when a solid pulse of swell starts to build. You’ll want to keep an eye on the weekend of the 18th and 19th – that’s where the standout window sits.
Right now, Coogee is a beach, reef, and point setup. It’s an exposed spot that loves a good SE swell, and the water temp is about average for this time of year. No major anomalies to report.
The first real taste of something bigger comes on Wednesday morning, the 15th. We’ve got a 8 ft S swell, but it’s short-period at 8 seconds, so it’ll be a bit bumpy and jumbled. The wind is a cross-off at 22 mph, keeping it clean, but combined wave energy is moderate (871). This one is more for the experts – it’s gonna be a handful.
By Thursday the 16th, the swell jumps to 12 ft from the SSE, still short-period. The morning looks clean with a cross-off wind, but the afternoon gets a cross-shore chop. Energy is strong (1939). Still a solid day but not the best of the bunch.
Now, the real standout is Friday July 17th into Saturday July 18th. Friday morning delivers an 18 ft SE swell with a long period of 12 seconds. That’s a serious groundswell. The wind is a clean cross-off, and the combined energy is massive (8219). This is big, powerful, and only for the experts. Afternoon sees it drop slightly to 13 ft, but the cross-shore wind makes it a bit messy.
But Saturday the 18th… that’s the one. Morning session is a 16 ft SE swell, 12-second period, with a light cross-off breeze. The energy is exceptional (7312). The afternoon goes glassy with a 15 ft SSE swell, and the wind is dead calm. It’s going to be an incredible day for the experienced crew. The only downside is that the swell is so big, it’s locked in for experts only. Beginners should stay well clear.
Sunday the 19th still has plenty of push – 10 ft SE swell in the morning with a clean cross-off, but the afternoon turns onshore and choppy. Still a good day for the morning session.
After that, the swell backs off steadily through the rest of the week into the 25th, where we see another 10 ft S swell on Saturday morning with a 12-second period, but it’s a long way out and less certain.
So, if you’re looking for the best on offer, it’s hands down the Saturday morning of July 18th. That’s the big, clean, glassy one. The Friday morning of the 17th is a close second, but it’s a bit more raw. Get on it if you’ve got the skills.
Coogee does get crowded sometimes, so expect a few heads out there on those big days.
Rusty.
