The Lowdown
Alright, let’s switch to feet and Fahrenheit. Coogee is a beach-reef-and-point setup that’s exposed to swell, but it’s inconsistent and only for advanced surfers. Water temp is around 63°F right now, about normal for this time of year. The next 16 days have a few windows worth paddling out for, but you’ve got to pick your moments.
Right now, Sunday the 19th is a write-off – cross-on wind, weak energy, just messy. Monday morning the 20th is the first real chance: a clean cross-off breeze from the WNW, 5.6ft ENE swell with an 11-second period, and combined energy of 778 – that’s moderate but solid. It’ll be clean, but Coogee is inconsistent, so don’t expect a non-stop conveyor belt. The afternoon gets chopped by a NE breeze, so go early.
Tuesday the 21st morning is similar but smaller – 4.3ft, 10 seconds, still clean. Afternoon again ruined by onshore wind. Wednesday the 22nd morning has a light offshore from the W, but the swell drops to 3.3ft and energy is only 195 – surfable but ordinary. Thursday the 23rd is a mess with strong WSW wind, even though the swell shifts to S. Friday the 24th though – that’s a nice little run. Light offshore wind both morning and afternoon, 4.3ft to 4.6ft S swell, period 9-10 seconds, energy building to 440. Clean, fun, but not massive.
Saturday the 25th morning is still okay with moderate offshore, 3.0ft S swell but a longer period of 12 seconds – that’ll give some nice lines. Energy 287, moderate. But the afternoon gets hammered by a 22 mph offshore, so it’s blown out. Sunday the 26th brings a bigger pulse: 6.6ft S swell with 11 seconds, energy 1466 – strong. But the wind is cross-off from the SSW, and the forecast calls it marginal. Might be lumpy. Monday the 27th morning has light offshore and 3.9ft S swell, 8 seconds, energy 222 – clean but short period, so not much shape.
The real standout comes at the end of the month. Friday the 31st afternoon – light cross-off wind, 4.9ft S swell, 9 seconds, energy 567, and it’s expected to be very good. Clean and fun. Then the weekend of August 1st and 2nd is the big one. Saturday morning the 1st: 9.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Very mild (max 18°C on Wed morning, min 11°C on Mon morning). Wind will be generally light. | Days 5-7 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Very mild (max 19°C on Wed afternoon, min 8°C on Thu night). Winds increasing (light winds from the NNE on Wed afternoon, fresh winds from the WSW by Thu afternoon). | |||||||||||||||||||
