Table - best surf conditions forecast for Maroubra Beach over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here. Look, I've been staring at the charts for Maroubra Beach and, to be honest, it's a bit of a mixed bag for the next couple of weeks. The first week is mostly small and messy, but there's a decent peak of swell in the middle of next week that'll get the blood pumping, and then a solid pulse of sizeable, clean waves right at the end of the forecast period, which is the one to pencil in.
We start off this Monday morning, the 13th of July, with barely a ripple. We're looking at a tiny 0.6ft southerly swell with a long period of 11 seconds, but it's just too small to do anything. The wind's offshore from the WNW at 12 mph, so it's clean, but there's no wave energy to speak of (26). The water temp is sitting at 64°, which is about normal for this time of year. This flat spell runs right through Tuesday as well, with the same tiny 0.6ft surf and a mix of offshore and cross-offshore winds. It's a shocking start.
Wednesday the 15th is where things finally change. We get a jump in size with a 7ft southerly swell, but it's a short period of 10 seconds and the wind is a messy cross-shore from the SW at 9 mph. The wave energy is moderate (1413), but it's going to be lumpy and hard to manage at a beach-and-reef setup like Maroubra. It's more of a kite-surfing day than a clean paddle session.
Thursday the 16th stays around the 6ft mark from the south, but the winds get stronger and nasty, swinging southerly at 19 mph in the afternoon. It's lumpy and cross-onshore. Friday's not much better with similar conditions. The whole weekend is a write-off with onshore winds and dropping swell, barely reaching 3ft.
Now, Monday the 20th of July is a glimmer of hope. The morning has a light 3ft swell from the ENE, but the wind is glassy offshore from the NNW at only 3 mph. The wave energy is moderate (236) and clean. It's not huge, but it'll be the best we've seen in a while. Tuesday and Wednesday are marginal but surfable with small clean waves in the mornings if you're desperate.
The real standout, and I mean the one to circle on the calendar, is Sunday the 26th of July. We've got a solid 7ft southerly swell pumping in for the morning, with the wind turning offshore from the NW at 12 mph. The wave energy is strong (395), and the conditions are described as "moderate offshore and clean". This is a proper swell for experienced surfers. The period is short at 7 seconds, so it'll be a bit dumpy and sectiony, but that offshore wind will hold it up. It’s going to be a fun, powerful session. The afternoon gets bigger at 8ft but the wind picks up, so the morning window is the pick.
Monday the 27th stays big at 8ft from the south with a strong offshore wind, but the period is still short, so it's going to be punchy and a bit wild. For the advanced crew only. After that, the swell slowly backs off through Tuesday, but remains sizeable in the 6ft to 6ft range with mostly cross-offshore winds. It's not the cleanest, but there will be waves.
So, for the best of the 16-day window: Sunday the 26th of July, first light at Maroubra. That 7ft southerly swell with a glassy offshore NW wind is going to be the session to chase. It's big enough to get barrelling and clean enough to make it enjoyable. Get on it.
Rusty.
