The Lowdown
Alright, mate, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Lurline Bay.
It’s a pretty quiet start to the outlook, with the next few days offering nothing worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny and the wind is messy. You’re looking at a gap of surfable waves until Wednesday the 15th.
That Wednesday morning, the 15th, is where the first real action kicks in. A solid south swell rolls in at 8ft, with a clean offshore wind from the SSW. This is groundswell territory with a 10-second period, so plenty of energy in the water—the combined energy is a massive 2283, which is strong. This is only for the experienced crew, as it’s too big for beginners. The water temp is sitting at 64°F, which is about average for this time of year.
The real standout, though, is Thursday the 23rd. Both the morning and afternoon sessions are firing. The swell is a solid 6ft from the east, with a long 12-second period. The morning has a gentle offshore wind from the SW, keeping it clean and lined up. The combined energy is a very strong 955 and 1005. This is excellent surf for experienced surfers—long-period east swell on a reef break like Lurline Bay is a recipe for proper, pushing waves. Expect some tidy, hollow sections.
The Friday the 24th morning is also very good, with the same solid 6ft east swell and 12-second period, clean conditions with a cross-offshore wind. The energy is still strong at 804.
After that, the weekend of the 26th and 27th drops off into smaller, messier waves, and the winds start to get a bit tricky. The Tuesday the 29th shows a clean 2ft swell with a fresh offshore wind, but it’s small and marginal.
So, to sum it up: the best bet is to circle Wednesday the 23rd. That’s your day for a proper session. The 15th is the other option for the big-wave hunters.
Rusty.
