Alright, wave riders, Rusty here with the full 16-day picture. Only one spot is on the menu for this stretch, so let’s get into it.
Right out of the gate, we’ve got a solid run of surf. The big standout kicks off Friday, July 3rd, at The Bombie. This is an advanced reef break, and it only breaks fairly consistently, so when it lines up, it’s magic. The water temp is 81°F, which is about average for this time of year.
From Friday morning, we’re looking at a clean 7ft SSW swell, grinding in with a long 14-second period. The combined energy is pumping at 1476, so there’s plenty of power. The wind is a steady 12 mph out of the southeast, blowing straight offshore. Friday afternoon keeps that energy going with 6ft and the same offshore breeze, only lighter at 9 mph. Gorgeous conditions for the experienced surfer.
Saturday, July 4th, is absolute gold. More clean offshore wind from the ESE at 16 mph, and the swell gets a little boost. Saturday morning holds 6ft SSW swell with an even longer 16-second period, and the combined energy hits 1875. Saturday afternoon is just as strong with 6ft and a 15-second period. This is the day The Bombie shows its teeth.
Sunday morning, July 5th, the wind goes cross-offshore, which takes a little shine off, but by Sunday afternoon we’re back to a clean 16 mph offshore breeze for the 6ft swell. It stays good.
Monday, July 6th, through Wednesday, July 8th, we’re consistently in the 4ft to 7ft range, all with that excellent long-period swell from the SSW, and winds staying offshore. The combined energy peaks at 2414 on Wednesday afternoon with 7ft swell and 16-second period. That Wednesday afternoon is another real highlight—expert territory for sure.
The pattern holds steady into the second week, but with a bit more variation. Thursday, July 9th, is still solid with 6ft SSW swell and offshore winds. Friday, July 10th, sees a few rain showers but the quality stays in the zone. The swell sticks around 5ft.
From Saturday, July 11th, the swell starts to drop below 5ft and the combined energy falls into the 700-900 range. Still surfable for the experienced crew, but the power is fading. Sunday, July 12th, the swell bottoms out around 3ft to 3ft, with much shorter period. That’s the low point.
But then—Monday, July 13th, brings a new pulse. Morning is glassy clean with barely a whisper of wind, 4ft SW swell. It builds through the week again.
The absolute best of the whole run? It’s a tie between Wednesday, July 8th afternoon with that fierce 7ft SSW swell, 16-second period, and perfect offshore wind; and Tuesday, July 14th morning, when we get glassy conditions—zero wind—with a clean 5ft SSW groundswell pumping at 17 seconds and energy of 1816. That Tuesday morning session is about as good as it gets for the advanced surfer.
Keep an eye on Saturday, July 18th, too. Afternoon brings a late kick: 5ft SW swell with a very long 18-second period, gentle offshore wind, and combined energy of 2040. That’s a long-range standout, less certain, but the potential is there.
If this swell keeps on coming, The Bombie is the only name in town, and it’s a good one.
That’s your lot, pounamu.
Rusty.
