Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got The Bombie as the only spot this whole outlook, and it’s a steady run of solid, clean groundswell for the experienced crew. Right from the get-go on Monday the 6th of July, we’ve got a long-period SSW groundswell pushing in at 4 ft with a 17-second period, clean under a moderate offshore breeze. The water’s at 80°, right on average for this time of year. The combined energy is already strong (1404), and that offshore wind is a real treat—glassier conditions making for some tidy faces.
Monday afternoon the swell bumps up to 6 ft, still clean, but the wind picks up to a fresh breeze—still offshore, so it’s manageable. Tuesday the 7th keeps that consistent 5 ft SSW swell with clean conditions, though the combined energy drops a notch (1026). Wednesday the 8th is where it starts getting serious: by afternoon we’re looking at 7 ft from the SSW, 16-second period, and excellent conditions for those who know what they’re doing. The energy jumps to 2119—strong. This is one of the true standouts: big, clean, powerful waves for advanced surfers only, and it’s a reef break, so you’ll get that shape. Crowds are possible here, so keep an eye out.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th hold similar size (6 ft to 7 ft) but with rain showers and fresh offshore winds kicking up a bit—still clean, but the wind adds some texture. Friday afternoon the 10th cleans up with excellent conditions again, 6 ft from the SW, and that’s another strong call. The weekend of the 11th starts to drop off: Saturday sees 5 ft swell shrinking to 5 ft by afternoon, energy falling to 918, still offshore but the size is easing. Sunday the 12th is smaller again—3 ft to 3 ft, long periods of 12–13 seconds, energy down to 398. Still clean, but noticeably weaker.
Monday the 13th brings a cross-off wind morning (4 ft from SSW), but by afternoon we’re back to a clean 4 ft with a 15-second period and energy of 1226—good for a session. Tuesday the 14th spikes to 6 ft in the morning with cross-off conditions, but again the afternoon cleans up to 4 ft with strong energy (2014). Wednesday the 15th repeats that pattern: early cross-off, afternoon offshore at 5 ft. The wind’s a bit fresh at times, but the quality is there for experienced surfers.
Then we hit the real gold: from Saturday the 18th through to Tuesday the 21st of July, this is the standout period. Saturday the 18th morning: 5 ft from the SW, 17-second periods, light offshore breeze, clean conditions, energy at 1649. By afternoon it’s 6 ft, same period, gentle offshore—absolutely beautiful. Sunday the 19th sees 7 ft from the SSW, 16-second period, gentle offshore, energy roaring at 2277. This is big, powerful groundswell—best for experts, and this kind of long-period swell loves a reef setup like The Bombie. Monday the 20th is the peak: 7 ft morning, 8 ft afternoon from the SSW, both with gentle offshore winds, and combined energy hitting 2668 and 2701—very strong. Tuesday the 21st holds at 8 ft to 7 ft, still clean and excellent. This whole stretch from the 18th to the 21st is the one to lock in—consistent, clean, powerful, and just firing.
Overall, no gaps—the surf is on every day. The Bombie is a reef break that breaks fairly consistently, so you can rely on it. Just remember: once it’s over 7 ft, it’s expert-only territory. The long periods mean longer waits between sets, but the energy is massive when they come. Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
