The Lowdown
Alright crew, Rusty here with the skinny.
We’ve got a solid run of surf coming down the pipe, with Super Suck being the main event. This is a gnarly reef and point break for the advanced crew, and it's going to be pumping on a long-period SW groundswell. The water is sitting at 80°, which is pretty normal for this time of year.
The first real swell hits on Thursday, August 20th. We're looking at a clean 8ft SW swell with a long 16-second period, and the energy is cranking. The morning is a bit cross-off, but the afternoon turns glassy with a light offshore breeze. This is clean, powerful, heavy surf for experienced surfers only. Anything over 8ft is expert territory, and this one is right there.
Friday the 21st keeps the goods coming. The morning drops a little to 6ft SW, still clean, and the afternoon picks up to 8ft SW with a 17-second period. The offshore wind is light, making for a top-notch day.
Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd stay in the 7ft to 7ft range, with a slight shift to SSW. The wind stays light and favorable, so the quality is solid. The energy is still strong.
Now, the real standout window is from the 31st of August into the 1st of September. On Monday the 31st, the afternoon brings a 7ft SW swell, a massive 20-second period, and a gentle offshore wind. The energy is huge. That's a very long period groundswell on a reef and point, which is a dream combo. Then on Tuesday, September 1st, it gets even bigger. We're talking a 10ft SW swell, 18-second period, and almost no wind. The energy is the biggest of the whole forecast. This is only for the most experienced surfers – it's absolutely charging. Expect the place to be crowded, as Super Suck can get busy.
There's a bit of a lull around the 27th and 28th of August, where the swell drops and the conditions are more average. The 30th also looks a bit weaker. But overall, the consistency is good, and the long-range stuff at the end of the month is looking like a proper run of heavy, clean surf.
The 1st of September is the one to circle. That 10ft, 18-second SW groundswell with near-calm winds is the best on offer for the whole 16 days. Get on it if you’ve got the skills.
Rusty.
