Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
The next 16 days are looking pretty special for Super Suck, a reef and point setup. This is a consistent, advanced-only wave that’s fairly exposed to the swell, and it’s going to be firing through a solid run of southerly groundswells. The water's sitting at 82°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
We kick off on Monday the 6th of July and it’s on from the get-go. The morning is glassy clean with a light SE breeze, offshore all the way, and a solid 4ft SSW swell rolling in with a 17-second period. That’s proper groundswell, and the energy is pumping in at 1592—strong and powerful. This is excellent for experienced surfers. The afternoon picks up a notch to 6ft, still offshore, still clean. This is the kind of start that gets you excited.
Tuesday the 7th holds strong in the morning with 5ft SSW swell, 16-second period, and clean offshore winds. The energy is still high at 987. By the afternoon, the wind goes cross-offshore and the quality drops a touch, but it’s still rideable.
Wednesday the 8th brings a bigger pulse. Morning sees 6ft SW swell, but the wind is cross-off, so it’s a bit lumpy. The afternoon though, jumps to 7ft with a 15-second period and offshore winds again. That’s big, powerful, and only for the experienced crew. The energy is ripping at 2043.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are the standouts of the first week. Thursday morning has 7ft SSW swell, 15-second period, offshore winds, and energy at 1934. Friday keeps it going with 6ft to 6ft SW swell, 16-second period, and clean offshore winds all day. This is the best of the best—long, powerful lines, and the wind is just perfect.
Saturday the 11th is still very good, with 5ft SW swell in the morning and 5ft in the afternoon. The wind is light, so it’s clean. The swell does start to ease a bit through Sunday the 12th, dropping to 3ft and 3ft, but still with clean conditions. The energy is a lot weaker, down to 682 and 383, so it’s a mellow end to the week.
After a few smaller days, we get a big spike on Monday the 13th of July. The morning is small at 2ft, but the afternoon jumps to 3ft with a 21-second period—that’s a very long-period groundswell. The energy is back up to 1064, and with light offshore winds, this will be glassy and lined up. The long period means it’ll be better on the point and reef, not so much a beach break, but at Super Suck, that’s perfect.
Tuesday the 14th is another standout. Morning has 6ft SSW swell, 18-second period, offshore winds, and energy at 2283. The afternoon is the same with 6ft and 17-second period, energy at 2312. This is powerful, clean, and firing. Wednesday the 15th keeps it going with 6ft SSW swell, 17-second period, and gentle offshore winds. Energy is at 2373—the highest of the run. This is a serious swell.
Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th ease off a bit, with 5ft to 3ft swells, but still clean and with good energy. The weekend of the 18th and 19th of July sees another lift, with 5ft to 5ft SW swell, 16-second period, and light offshore winds. Energy is back up to 1579 and 1764. The final two days of the outlook, Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st, are still good with 5ft to 4ft swells, clean conditions, and moderate energy.
Overall, the best on offer is Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th, then again Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th. Those are the sessions where the swell, period, and wind all line up perfectly. Expect a crew out there, but it’s worth it.
Rusty.
