Table - best surf conditions forecast for Super Suck over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's look at what's on the table for the next 16 days. We've got one spot firing and it's a proper one.
The whole run is centred on Super Suck, a reef and point set-up that's made for this kind of swell. The coming days are looking solid, with a big pulse of long-period groundswell rolling in. The water temp is sitting at 82°F, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
We kick off proper on Thursday 9 July. The morning has a solid 7 ft swell from the SSW, with a very long 15-second period. The combined energy is pumping at a strong 1958, and with a clean offshore wind from the SE, this is going to be absolutely firing. This is advanced territory at this size, so only the experienced crew should be out. The wind holds for the afternoon, but the swell drops a fraction.
Friday 10 July is a real standout. The morning brings 6 ft of SW swell with a 16-second period, and the energy is a bit higher at 1730. The wind is still offshore, keeping it clean. The afternoon is even better, nudging up to 6 ft with the same long period, and energy at 1737. This is as good as it gets here.
Saturday 11 July is the pick of the bunch. The morning sees 5 ft of SW swell, but the wind drops to nearly nothing – a slight air from the SE, making it glassy. The energy is still strong at 1389. This is going to be a dream session, clean and lined up. The afternoon stays good with a gentle offshore breeze.
Sunday 12 July sees the swell drop right off. Morning is 3 ft, and the wind turns cross-offshore, so it's still rideable for a longboard, but nothing to get excited about.
Monday 13 July is small again, but that afternoon session has a massive 21-second period swell on a tiny 2 ft. That's an incredibly long period, so the sets will be fat and slow, better for a point break like this, but it'll be a weird, inconsistent paddle.
The next big push comes Tuesday 14 July and Wednesday 15 July. Tuesday afternoon hits 6 ft from the SSW with a 17-second period, and the energy jumps to 2461 – that's very strong. Wednesday morning is the peak of this second pulse, with 6 ft, a 17-second period, and energy at 2580. The wind stays offshore, so expect some proper heavy, powerful walls. Again, this is expert-only territory.
The swell then backs off a bit for the end of the week, but it stays rideable. Thursday 16 July and Friday 17 July offer clean, smaller waves in the 3 ft to 5 ft range with lighter winds. A good window for the less experienced.
Saturday 18 July and Sunday 19 July bring in another solid pulse. Saturday is clean with 5 ft and a 15-second period, and Sunday morning is the best of that two-day window, with 6 ft and strong 1509 energy, still offshore.
After that, from Monday 20 July through to Thursday 24 July, the wind turns cross-offshore, and the swell becomes more inconsistent. The energy drops noticeably, and the surface quality won't be as clean. It's still surfable for the dedicated, with some morning sessions in the 3 ft to 6 ft range, but it's not the pristine, glassy stuff of the first week. The periods are still decent, and the point break will handle the longer-period swells better than a beach, but the crowds are likely to be around at Super Suck, especially on the best days, so get out early.
The absolute standout window is the run from Thursday 9 July through to Saturday 11 July, with Friday 10 July and Saturday 11 July being the top-tier sessions. If you can only pick one, Saturday morning's glassy 5 ft with that long period and no wind is the dream ticket.
Rusty.
