The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what we’ve got on the cards for Abereiddy.
Honestly, it’s a tough stretch ahead. Over the next couple of weeks, we’re looking at a proper flat spell with hardly any energy to get excited about. The first real surf recommendation doesn’t kick in until Saturday, July 25th, so we’ve got a long gap of over a week with nothing worth paddling out for, just tiny wind chop and poor conditions.
From Wednesday the 15th right through to the 24th, it’s all tiny waves and mostly onshore or cross-onshore winds. There’s a few glassy mornings on the 23rd with a light offshore from the SSE and a clean 0.3ft swell, but with a combined energy of just 8, there’s nothing to ride. It’s a solid period of no-go.
Now, the standout in the whole window is Saturday, July 25th. The afternoon brings a slight uptick in energy – we’re seeing 4ft swell from the north with a combined energy of 118. That’s the biggest push of the whole forecast, but the catch is that it’s a short period swell (6 seconds) and the wind is a cross-onshore from the WSW. It’s going to be a bit lumpy and choppy at Abereiddy. The size is still manageable for most, not too big for beginners, but the quality won’t be anything special. It’s the best on offer, but that’s not saying much.
For the rest of the second week, from Sunday the 26th onwards, it’s back to small, weak, mostly onshore slop. A few clean windows on the 28th with onshore winds from the WNW and NW and small 2ft north swell, but again, tiny and short period.
So, bottom line: if you absolutely have to get wet, your best bet is the afternoon of July 25th. Otherwise, it’s a blank run. Forecasts can change though, so keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
