The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Grab a coffee, because this one is a bit of a tough read.
Honestly, the next 16 days look like a write-off for Fishermans (Rhiw). I’m looking at the charts and there’s barely a ripple to get excited about. The water is sitting at 64° right now, which is a solid 5° warmer than normal for this time of year, so it feels like a bath, but that’s about the only highlight.
The whole first week is a flat spell. From Monday the 13th right through to Sunday the 19th, we’re talking about tiny 0.3ft slop, if that. The energy readings are pathetic, mostly single digits. It’s clean, sure, with light offshore winds from the NNE and NE, but you could paddle for an hour and not get a ride worth mentioning. The swell is coming from the W and SW with a long period (19 seconds on Monday), but at 0.3ft, it’s just a gentle bump. Don’t bother.
Then we hit a total dead zone. From the 19th through to the 21st, the swell height lines are blank. Zero surf. The wind is cross-off from the NNW, but there’s nothing to ride. It’s a proper, painful gap of about three days.
Things try to tickle back to life around the 22nd. Wednesday morning gives us a tiny 1ft from the SW with a period of just 4 seconds. The energy is a measly 3. It’s offshore from the N, so it’ll be clean, but it’s a dribble, not a wave. Again, the rating is zero.
The end of the run gets a bit more interesting, but not in a good way for surfing. On Friday the 24th, we see a jump to 3ft from the SW (5 second period, 44 energy), but it’s blowing onshore from the SSW at 12 mph. That’s choppy, messy junk. By Saturday the 25th, the wind is howling from the SW at 16 mph, onshore, with 2ft to 2ft of wind-blown slop. The energy is still 44, but the quality is poor. Honestly, with that wind and that lumpy, onshore swell, this setup looks more interesting for a kite session than a paddle surf.
The last few days of the month are a write-off too. Sunday the 26th has near gale-force winds and rain, and Monday the 27th is going to be blown out with 31 to 37 mph winds. Forget it.
There is no standout. There is no best on offer. The entire 16-day window is a bust for Fishermans (Rhiw). Hang the board up, check the forecast again in a few days, and hope for a change.
