Table - best surf conditions forecast for Pobbles Beach over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer at Pobbles Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, I’ll be honest with you – this is a lean run. There’s a big gap of flat, weak, or messy conditions right through the first week. The only time you’ll even get a sniff of something rideable is towards the end of the second week. The water temperature here is sitting at 68° – that’s a massive 8° warmer than usual for this time of year, which is really unusual. You’ll be surfing in a bathtub.
The first real standout comes on Tuesday afternoon, 21 July. The wind goes glassy out of the northwest at 3 mph, and we’ve got a 2ft swell from the west at 10 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 141 – it’s not huge, but it’s the most energy we’ve seen all period. The waves are surfable, and with that glassy surface, it’ll be clean. Crowds are possible here, so you might have a few others out. This is a beginner-friendly break, and the size is fine for learning.
The next little highlight is on Monday afternoon, 20 July. The wind is light from the northwest, basically glassy, and the swell is 3ft from the west at 6 seconds. The combined energy is 69. It’s small and a bit short-period, but it’ll be clean and tidy. Not a standout, but a decent paddle if you’re keen.
Heading into the last weekend of the month, Saturday afternoon, 25 July shows a 3ft swell from the west-southwest at a very short 4 seconds. The combined energy is only 35, and the wind is cross-shore from the west-southwest at 9 mph. It’ll be a bit shifty and weak. Not worth getting too excited about.
Then on Sunday morning, 26 July, we see a jump in size – 5ft from the west at 7 seconds, with a combined energy of 250. That’s moderate wave energy, but the wind is light cross-onshore from the southeast, and the report calls it poor surf conditions. It’s a beach break, so that short-period, cross-onshore wind will make it lumpy and messy. Honestly, with that wind and the size, it might be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. The afternoon gets even windier – 16 mph cross-onshore from the east-southeast – so leave it.
All in all, the only real window to get a clean wave is that Tuesday afternoon, 21 July. The rest is a write-off for most of the 16 days. That’s normal for this area when conditions are this inconsistent. Forecasts can change though, so keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
