The Lowdown
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s break down Pobbles Beach for the next sixteen days.
It’s a grim run overall. The whole window is filled with tiny, weak surf and windy, messy conditions. Pobbles is an inconsistent beginner spot, so a flat spell isn't a huge shock, but it’s a bummer seeing nothing good on the horizon.
Kicking off Saturday, August 22, we’ve got a 1ft WSW swell, but a cross-shore breeze makes it a no-go. Sunday is even smaller—ankle-biters at 0.3ft to 0.7ft. There’s a glassy moment Sunday afternoon, but there’s zero push. The water is 70°, which is a whopping 9° warmer than normal, so the temps are fine even if the waves aren’t.
Monday and Tuesday stay tiny—0.3ft to 0.7ft—with some clean windows but absolutely no power. The combined energy numbers are stuck in the weak zone (26 to 35). The first week is a total washout.
Thursday, August 27 brings a 3ft to 4ft SW swell, but onshore winds up to 22 mph ruin it. The energy climbs a bit (194), but conditions are poor. Friday the 28th sees a 5ft SW swell with moderate energy (405), but it’s cross-onshore and choppy. More of a kite-surfing day than a paddling day.
The weekend of the 29th–30th brings the biggest surf. Saturday the 29th morning is clean with a 6ft WSW swell and cross-offshore wind (342 energy), but the period is short at 7 seconds, so it’ll be peaky and closing out. By afternoon it’s 7ft and cross-shore, still short-period—expert-only territory. Sunday drops to 5ft to 5ft with a very short period (6 seconds) and lumpy cross-onshore winds.
Monday, August 31 morning is clean with a 5ft W swell (246 energy) and cross-offshore breeze. That’s the best we get—still just 7 seconds, so it’ll be quick and fat, but it’s the cleanest window. Still labeled “poor surf conditions,” though.
From September 1st, it fades to 2ft to 2ft. Nothing special until September 4th afternoon, when a 3ft W swell (173 energy) shows up with clean cross-offshore wind. That’s 13 days out, so keep an eye on it but don’t hold your breath.
The final stretch from September 5th shows 3ft to 5ft WSW swell, but winds hit 28 mph, making it lumpy and onshore. Kite-surfing territory again.
Bottom line: no real standouts. If you’re itching, the cleanest moments are Sunday afternoon August 23 (tiny glass) and Monday morning August 31 (bigger, clean, but short period). Otherwise, it’s a long flat spell.
Rusty.
