Table - best surf conditions forecast for Pobbles Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab a coffee and let me talk you through the next stretch at Pobbles Beach. It’s a bit of a quiet run, if I’m honest. This spot is a beginner-friendly, inconsistent beach break that’s fairly exposed to the south-west, and crowds can pop up sometimes. The water temp is sitting at 68°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year—a full 9° above average, so the water feels more like summer than mid-July.
Right now, we’re looking at a long, dry spell. From Sunday the 12th through to the morning of Monday the 21st, the surf is basically a non-event. The swell is tiny, mostly under 1 ft, with a mix of long-period south-west groundswells and short, weak east windswells. The combined energy barely registers (25-66), and the wave comments are all “poor surf conditions.” The winds are mostly cross or cross-off, which keeps the surface clean, but there’s just no push. Sunday afternoon the 12th does go glassy, and Tuesday the 14th afternoon sees a flat calm glass-off with 0.7 ft, but again, barely a ripple.
We start seeing a little life on the morning of Monday the 21st. The swell bumps up to 4 ft from the west, with a 7-second period. The combined energy hits 132 (moderate), and the wave comment improves to “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” The wind is light and cross-off, so it’s clean. The Tuesday the 22nd morning kicks up further—7 ft from the west, 8-second period, and energy jumping to 588 (strong). Winds are light and cross-shore, with only small ripples. That’s the biggest swell in the whole window, but it’s a bit of a raw, short-period windswell, and it’ll be a messy, choppy affair by the afternoon, with a 16 mph cross-shore wind. The afternoon of the 22nd sees 8 ft, but it’s cross-shore and chopped. This is expert-only territory, and honestly, the setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.
After that, Wednesday the 23rd morning drops back to 3 ft from the west, with clean cross-off winds and energy at 97 (weak). It’s surfable, but not a standout. The rest of the week fades into tiny, clean but weak swells, with the last decent-looking window being the morning of the 25th, where a 1.0 ft west swell gets a moderate offshore wind from the north-northwest, keeping it clean. But it’s barely a wave.
The best on offer is the morning of Tuesday the 22nd. That 7 ft west swell with only light cross-shore winds is the biggest, most powerful wave of the period, but it’s a short-period, raw swell that won’t hold shape well at a beach break. It’s a true expert-only window. The morning of Monday the 21st is a more accessible, smaller option at 4 ft with clean, light winds, but it’s just “ordinary.” If you’re a beginner, wait for the glassy afternoons around the 14th or 19th, but you’ll be fighting for a 0.7 ft micro-swell.
All in all, this is a long, lean stretch. The surf stays poor for the first week, and the only real energy comes in the third week, but it’s rough and powerful. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a test of patience.
