Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight, Tronoen’s looking at a pretty bleak run for the next couple of weeks. There are no real standouts – just a few brief moments where it might be worth a paddle. The whole pattern is stuffed with lumpy onshore junk, with not enough quality to get keen on.
The first real shot comes on Sunday, July 5th, in the morning. It’s the best you’ll get for a while. Glassy conditions with a light easterly offshore, and the swell is a tiny 0.7m from the west with a 10-second period. The combined energy is weak (160). The water’s sitting at 18°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year – nice on the skin but not a big deal. It’s a clean, surfable wave, but so small and ordinary it’s barely waist-high.
A couple of other mornings pop up with clean conditions – like Monday July 6th morning (0.9m, WNW, period 9 seconds, energy 106) and Sunday July 12th morning (0.9m, WNW, period 9 seconds, energy 154). The winds are light offshore or cross-offshore, so it’ll look tidy enough, but the swell has no power. Nothing here is going to get you excited.
As we push into the second week, the swell gets bigger but the wind turns nasty. By Thursday July 16th afternoon, there’s 2.2m from the WSW with a short 8-second period (strong energy: 532), but it’s under a fresh cross-onshore breeze. This is all lumpy, choppy mess – more interesting for kite-surfing than paddle surfing. Same story on Friday July 17th (2.0m, cross-on, 542 energy) and the days after. The long gaps between any decent conditions are pretty normal for this area; it’s a flat spell that just won’t break.
The honest truth: the only semi-decent window is that Sunday morning (July 5th). Small, clean, glassy – worth a look if you’re keen. Otherwise, the rest of the 16 days is a dud. Sometimes the ocean doesn’t play ball. Forecasts can change, but for now, this is how it sits.
Rusty.
