The Lowdown

Alright, let’s see what’s coming for Plage du Loch. Honestly, it’s a pretty bleak run for the next two weeks. We’ve got a 16-day window, but the first real chance doesn’t show up until the 15th of August. Before that, it’s a whole lot of nothing. The water temp is 66°F, right about average for the year.

The first few days are a total bust. Sunday the 2nd, Monday the 3rd, Tuesday the 4th – all poor surf, with cross-onshore winds and messy, choppy garbage. The swell is tiny, barely 1ft to 4ft, and the period is short, around 7 to 8 seconds, so no power at all. The combined energy is weak, between 29 and 183 (moderate energy at best on the 4th). Not worth getting wet for.

Wednesday the 5th through the 14th is more of the same: small, weak, and blown out. The wind is mostly from the west or southwest, cross-onshore, and the swell never gets above 4ft. The combined energy stays low, in the 20s and 30s for most of it. There’s really nothing to get stoked about. A few mornings have light offshore breezes, like the 8th morning with a clean 1ft, but it’s just too small to do anything with.

The one bright spot, and it’s a long way off, is the morning of the 15th of August. We finally get a glassy morning – calm, no wind at all. The swell is still only 2ft from the west with an 8-second period, and the combined energy is a weak 31. It’s not going to be big, but it might be the cleanest, most rideable wave we see in the whole period. It’s a long-range call, so keep an eye on it, but it’s the best on offer.

The rest of the 16th and 17th go back to the same old story: small, weak, and cross-onshore.

So, bottom line: a long, dry spell. The 15th morning is the only standout, but it’s a small one. Keep your expectations low.

Rusty.

Short Range Forecast
