The Lowdown
Hey mate, Rusty here. Looking over the next 16 days for Alfagar, it’s a pretty slow spell overall. There’s a lot of small, ordinary swell with only a couple of sessions worth chasing. The water’s sitting around 68°, which is a touch cooler than normal for this time of year—nothing extreme, but you’ll notice it.
The first decent chance is Friday the 21st in the morning. We’ve got waves around 3ft from the WNW, with a clean cross-off breeze out of the NW. The combined energy is moderate at 102, and the period is short at 8 seconds, so expect quick, small waves. That afternoon sees 3ft and 137 energy, but the wind picks up to 19 mph from the WNW—still clean but getting breezy.
Saturday the 22nd morning is the best of the early stretch. Swell drops to 2ft from the WNW, with a 10-second period and a light NW cross-off wind. Clean condition and low energy at 83, but it’s the most surfable we get for a while. That afternoon turns lumpy with a fresh W cross-shore.
Things go quiet until Friday the 28th morning. That’s a solid call: 3ft from the NW, clean NNE cross-off breeze, and energy jumps to 161. The period is still short at 8 seconds, but with the light wind, it’s a fun, clean session.
Then, the standout of the whole forecast lands on Tuesday the 1st of September morning. Only 2ft from the W, but the period is 16 seconds—proper long-period groundswell—and combined energy is a strong 248. We’ve got a solid NNW offshore at 16 mph keeping it glassy. At a reef break like Alfagar, that’s going to produce long, clean lines. The afternoon drops to 2ft with 14-second period, still 212 energy and a lighter NW cross-off.
Otherwise, it’s mostly flat or messy. If you’ve got one session to paddle for, make it the morning of the 1st of September.
Rusty.
