Table - best surf conditions forecast for Alfagar over the next 16 days.
Righto, let's have a look at what's on offer. To be honest, it's a pretty quiet spell ahead for Alfagar. We've got a long stretch of nothing much, with the first real sign of life not showing up until the morning of Sunday the 12th. Before that, it's flat or just too messy to bother with.
The water at Alfagar is sitting at a very warm 73°F, which is about 4°F warmer than what you'd expect for this time of year – that's notably warm.
So, for Saturday the 11th and the days before, don't bother. It's small and the wind is all wrong. We finally get a little bump on Sunday morning, the 12th. There's a small 3ft swell from the west, period around 9 seconds, and the combined energy is a weak 101. The wind goes glassy though, which is a real positive. You'd have it clean for a paddle, but the waves are ordinary. It's an exposed reef, inconsistent and it only breaks sometimes, so don't expect much. The best part is the calm conditions.
Monday the 13th through to Saturday the 18th stays tiny, with most days seeing knee-high dribble or less, and often a choppy cross-onshore wind. A few mornings might be clean, like Wednesday morning the 15th, but there's no power behind it.
Now, if you're patient, Sunday the 19th morning shapes up as the standout window. The swell is still only 3ft from the WNW, with a 9-second period and weak combined energy of 99, but the wind goes glassy again. It's the best conditions you'll get. Keep in mind though, this is a reef break that's inconsistent and can get a few people out there, so you might have company for the little waves that come through.
Later that afternoon, the swell actually bumps up to 5ft from the NW – a moderate wave energy of 448 – but the wind swings onshore, ruining it. That's the story for the rest of the run: a few pulses of swell, always with crummy wind. There's nothing here for beginners when it gets over 5ft, and the good windows are too short and weak to get excited about. If you're into kitesurfing, the choppy, windy afternoons on the 19th might be more your thing.
Overall, a lean period. The glassy mornings on the 12th and 19th are your best bets, but keep your expectations low. Forecasts change, so don't write it off completely.
