Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right, folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s cookin’ over at Alfagar. I’ll be straight with you – this stretch of the forecast is a long, quiet one. There’s a real gap on the surf menu for the first week. The little pulses we do get are weak and mostly messy, so don’t rush to wet a line just yet.
The first bit of hope arrives on Saturday the 11th of July in the morning. We’ve got a small 2ft swell rolling in from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds. It’s not gonna blow you away, but for the first time the wind is clean with a cross-offshore breeze from the NW at 9 mph. The combined energy is still weak at 67, so it’s barely a chest-high crumbler. But hey, it’s clean.
Now, the only real standout on the whole chart hits Sunday the 12th of July, early. The morning session is the pick of the entire 16 days. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the NW, with a short period of 8 seconds. That short period means it’ll be a little crumbly and won’t have the punch of a groundswell, but the combined energy jumps to 264 – that’s moderate energy and a proper step up. The wind is light from the NW at 6 mph, which is cross-offshore, keeping the surface glassy. With the water temperature at a touch warmer than normal at 71°F, it’s a comfortable start. The wave comment does call it “expect good surf conditions,” but look, with 4ft and an 8-second period, don’t expect perfection – it’s a fun size for average surfers, not too big, but that short period means it might close out a bit. Still, it’s the best we get.
That Sunday afternoon turns messy with a cross-shore wind kicking up, and then we drop back into the doldrums. From Monday the 13th of July onwards, it’s a sad run of tiny, weak waves or blown-out slop. The morning of Monday the 13th is glassy with 2ft swell and 65 combined energy, but it’s just small and ordinary. After that, it’s a long, boring stretch right through to the 20th. The swell never gets above 2ft again, and most days have onshore or cross-onshore breezes that chop it to bits. A few mornings like Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th offer clean conditions with light winds, but the swell is tiny – 2ft at best – and weak. The energy barely gets above 50. Save your energy.
Honestly, if you’re not on it the morning of the 12th of July, you’re not missing much. The rest is a write-off.
Rusty.
