Table - best surf conditions forecast for Alfagar over the next 16 days.
Alright, I’m gonna be straight with you. This is a grim outlook for Alfagar. The forecast is pretty much a write-off for the next 16 days. We’re looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak swell and poor surf conditions from Saturday, July 11th all the way through to Sunday, July 26th. There’s a sizeable gap here with no real recommendation, and that’s because the energy just isn’t there.
The swell is consistently small, with heights barely scraping 3 ft on the best days, and most of the time it’s between 0.6 ft and 2 ft. The combined swell energy is almost always weak, sitting in the low double digits – for example, 23 (weak energy) on Saturday morning, or 96 (still weak) on Sunday morning. The period is short, mostly 7 to 9 seconds, which means windswell and not much push. On a few mornings, like Tuesday the 14th, the period bumps up to 11 seconds (a longer period groundswell), but the swell height is only 0.6 ft, so it’s not doing anything for us.
The best of a bad bunch might be Monday morning, July 13th. It’s glassy, with light wind from the WNW at 5 mph, and the swell is 2 ft from the west. That’s clean, but the energy is only 33 (weak) and the period is 7 seconds – it’s tiny and weak. You might get a few knee-high sliders if you’re desperate. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
Another small window is Wednesday morning, July 15th. We’ve got a gentle offshore breeze from the NNW at 15 mph, making it clean, with a 1 ft swell from the WNW and a 9-second period (32 energy – weak). Again, it’s ankle-to-knee high. Not really worth paddling out for.
Because the swell is so consistently small and the period is short, the waves are just not going to have any shape or power. The wind is often cross-onshore or choppy, making it even worse. For the entire stretch, the surf is poor. There’s no standout day. If you’re a kite surfer, the constant cross-on wind might give you something to play with, but for a paddle surfer, this is a total bust.
Signing off – Rusty.
