Right then, let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Beliche over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be honest with you, it’s a pretty grim run to start. We’ve got a big gap of nothing but tiny, poor surf for the first seven days, right through till the end of the week. The energy is basically non-existent, with combined swell energy values scraping the bottom at 14 to 40 (weak). You’re looking at ankle to knee-high slop at best, and while the wind is often clean or offshore, there’s just no push in the water. It’s a real waiting game.
Now, things finally start to look up around Sunday the 12th of July. That morning, we see a bump of swell arrive, hitting about 5ft from the NW. The combined energy jumps into the moderate range at 339, and by the afternoon it’s really pumping up to 6ft from the NW with energy at 706. But, here’s the kicker – the wind is a fresh cross-offshore at 22 mph. It’s clean enough, but that strong wind is going to rip the top off the waves and make things tricky. It’s a bit of a messy power surge, and honestly, it’s still not scoring well for quality.
The standout window, the one I’d mark in my calendar, is Monday the 13th of July through to the end of the run. Monday morning looks the pick of the bunch, with a solid 6ft NW groundswell (9-second period) and a fresh 22 mph offshore wind from the NNW. The combined energy is a strong 512, and that offshore flow will hold the faces up nicely. It’s going to be powerful and lined-up, proper for the advanced crew. The water temp is 68°, which is about average for the time of year.
After that, the swell hangs in through the week, staying between 5ft and 7ft, mostly from the NNW. The wind is a constant cross-offshore, so expect clean but a little bumpy conditions. The combined energy stays well in the moderate to strong range, hitting over 300 on several days. For the experienced surfer wanting to get into some decent, consistent waves, this is where it’s at. Beginners might find that 5ft+ mark a bit much, and anything over 7ft will be expert-only. For what it’s worth, the best action on offer is Monday 13th morning.
So, the first week is a write-off. You wait until the second weekend for the real juice. It’s not perfect, and the wind is a factor, but there’s some proper grunt on the cards.
