Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks. I won’t sugarcoat it – we’ve got a long, dry spell ahead before anything worth paddling out for shows up. The first real glimpse of something happens midweek next week, but even then, it’s pretty ordinary.

Alright, let’s dive in.

Right now and for the next several days, Beliche is a write-off. The swell is tiny – we’re talking 1ft out of the west-northwest with a short period of 8 seconds. The combined swell energy is a weak 65. Add in a cross-shore wind, and you’ve got nothing to work with. This is the story for Saturday (11 July) and Sunday (12 July). On Monday (13 July), we finally see a pulse of 3ft swell from the northwest, but the period is still short at 8 seconds. The energy picks up a bit to 117, and the wind goes light cross-offshore, cleaning it up. The conditions file calls it "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions". It’s a one-star day at best – small, weak, and not really worth the effort. Tuesday through Thursday (14-16 July) are back to flat and poor with offshore winds that are just too strong for the tiny waves.

Now, here’s the first standout, and it’s a long way off. We have to wait until Friday, 17 July. The swell finally kicks up to 6ft from the north-northwest, but with a period of just 6 seconds. Combined energy hits a moderate 221. The wind is a strong offshore from the north-northwest at 22 mph. That offshore wind will groom the face, but that short period and strong breeze will make it a bumpy, hard-to-paddle affair. The file says "poor surf conditions" across the board – it’s just too windy for the size. This same pattern holds through Saturday (18 July) and Sunday (19 July) with 6-6ft swell and offshore winds cranking (25-28 mph). The energy gets up into the 300s, but that strong wind is going to make it challenging, to say the least. This is really only for the experienced crew; beginners should stay well clear.

After that blow, we get a little window on Monday, 20 July. The swell drops to 3ft from the north-northwest, energy back down to 100. But the wind goes almost glassy – light from the south at 3 mph. That’s as clean as it gets. It’s still small and ordinary (score of 1), but if you’re desperate for a bump, that Monday afternoon might be the cleanest, most relaxing session of the whole outlook.

The following week stays small and inconsistent. Tuesday (21 July) and Wednesday (22 July) show a bit of 3ft to 5ft swell from the north-northwest with periods around 8-9 seconds and moderate energy (196-315). The wind stays manageable, but the quality is still just “surfable.” Then Thursday (23 July) through Saturday (25 July) is more of the same – either too much wind or too little swell. The final day, Sunday 26 July, shows 6ft from the north-northwest with a moderate offshore breeze, but the period is short (7 seconds) and the energy is 278 – again, it’s a powerful, lumpy mess that only the locals with big boards and big arms will enjoy.

Overall, it’s a tough outlook. The one true standout, if you can call it that, is Monday, 20 July for the glassy conditions, even if the swell is small. The bigger pulses on the 17th-19th and 25th-26th are there, but the wind is just too strong for those to be any fun for most surfers. Keep your eye on the forecasts, but don’t expect much.

Rusty.
