The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s have a yarn about what’s on the cards for Beliche over the next couple of weeks. I’ve gotta be straight with you – it’s a pretty grim run for this stretch of coast. We’ve got a solid 16-day window but the first recommendation doesn’t pop up until Friday the 21st, and even then, it’s a marginal call with nothing to get truly pumped about. There’s a long dry spell before that, with barely a ripple.
Beliche is a beach and point setup, sheltered from the main swell. The water’s sitting at 67°F at the start, which is a whopping 4°F colder than what’s normal for this time of year – that’s a noticeable chill, so bring the thick rubber if you’re heading out.
Alright, here’s how it shakes out from Friday the 21st onward:
Friday 21st August – Morning brings a stiff NNW wind at 18 mph blowing offshore, which is a big tick for clean faces. Swell is 6 ft from the NW with a short 8-second period – so it’s a bit of a wind-swell affair, not much grunt behind it. Combined energy hits 429 (moderate energy), but the forecast score is only a 1. Not great, not terrible. The afternoon cross-off winds and 6 ft swell keep it clean but still poor.
Saturday 22nd – Saturday morning again has solid offshore NNW winds at 18 mph and a touch more size: 7 ft from the NNW, still a short 8-second period. Energy jumps to 606 (moderate to strong). This is the biggest size in the window, but at over 8 ft this is really only for experienced surfers. The morning’s your best look, though the afternoon turns cross-off and a little more chopped. Not a standout, but it’s the biggest push we see.
Sunday 23rd – Morning offshore winds at 22 mph and 8 ft from the NNW (energy 875 – strong). This is about as big as it gets, but the short period means it’s lumpy and a bit unruly. Still expert-only territory. The afternoon gets cloudy and cross-off, losing the clean edge.
Monday 24th – Fresh offshore wind continues at 22 mph, with swell dropping to 6 ft from the NNW (energy 505). Clean but still marginal. The afternoon stays offshore with 6 ft, which is a little more manageable for stronger intermediates, but still not classic Beliche.
From Tuesday 25th onward, we see a slow fade. Swell drops below 4 ft with short periods, and while winds remain offshore or cross-off, the energy is weak (as low as 22 on some days). A few pulses come through late in the run – like Saturday 29th with 5 ft from the NW and a longer 10-second period (energy 476) – but wind strength is 22–25 mph, making it hard to paddle into even with offshore conditions. That longer period is a groundswell hint, but with such strong breeze it’s a battle.
There’s no clear best day here, but if I had to point you to one, Saturday 22nd August morning or Sunday 23rd August morning have the most size and the cleanest offshore wind. Just be aware the short period and strong energy (over 600) mean it’s a shoulder-heavy, wind-chop day suited to bigger boards and a bit of grunt. Crowds are listed as “often” at Beliche, so expect company if it looks even half decent. This spot rarely turns on with this combination of exposed, short-period swell and gusty winds – keep your expectations low, and you might snag a couple.
That’s the lot for Beliche. Stay safe out there.
