Alright, Rusty here, in imperial. Let’s see what’s cooking at Beliche.
For the next week or so, it’s a slow grind. The first real shot of decent swell doesn’t roll in until Wednesday, July 22nd, and that’s the one we’re keeping an eye on. Let’s break it down.
Surf starts Saturday, July 11th, with tiny 1ft swells from the NW and a cross-on wind – it’s ugly. That flat-to-small theme sticks through the weekend and into the start of the next week. There’s a little bump on Sunday morning, July 12th, with 4ft from the WNW, but the wind’s still cross-on, so it’s choppy. Not worth the hassle.
Monday, July 13th, and Tuesday, July 14th, see a slight drop in size, but we get cleaner conditions as the wind goes cross-off. We’re looking at 3ft on Monday morning and Tuesday morning – surfable, but very ordinary. Nothing special.
The middle of the week stays small, with offshore winds picking up from Wednesday, July 15th, through to Friday, July 17th. The wind is solid offshore, but the swell is tiny – 2ft down to 1.0ft. Clean, but no power. The combined wave energy is weak, barely cracking 100 (around 63 to 26).
Then we get a ramp-up. Saturday, July 18th, brings 5ft to 6ft from the NNW, but with a short period of 7 seconds and strong offshore winds of 25 mph. The wave energy climbs to 340 and 397 – moderate – but it’s still getting a poor rating. The strong offshore wind is clean but will make paddling into these short-period lumps a real fight.
Same story Sunday, July 19th, and Monday, July 20th: 7ft to 8ft NNW swell, short period of 8 to 9 seconds, and strong offshore winds. The energy is getting up there (555 to 809), but it’s still not coming together for a good surf. The offshore wind is strong and clean, but hard to paddle into, and the short period keeps the waves from having any real shape. It’s a wind-swell mess.
Now, Wednesday, July 22nd, is the standout. This is the one. The morning session sees 10ft of NNW swell with a 10-second period, cross-off wind, and the energy is through the roof at 2196. The forecast says excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers. That’s a big clean groundswell with a long period, so it’s going to have proper power and shape. The wind is a moderate offshore, meaning it’ll be clean as a whistle. This is too big for beginners – over 8ft is expert territory – and with that long period, it’ll be lining up best at the point. The swell direction is NW, which is the optimum here. Just be aware, with that size and power, it’s for the experienced crew only.
The rest of that week and into the next drops off again. Thursday, July 23rd, and Friday, July 24th, see the swell backing down to 6ft and 3ft, but the wind stays strong offshore. The energy drops back hard. The weekend of July 25th and 26th is back to small, clean but weak surf.
So, bottom line: we’ve got a long, slow start with a lot of average days. The one real moment of quality is Wednesday, July 22nd, with a solid 10ft NNW groundswell and clean offshore winds. That’s the day to clear your schedule. Everything else is small, windy, or just not worth the drive.
