The Lowdown
Alright, grab your board and let’s talk waves. We’re looking at a pretty flat stretch ahead, so patience is going to be your best friend. The first week is mostly a bust, with only tiny, weak lines showing up. If you’re desperate, you’ll find something, but it’s going to be a lot of groveling for not much return. The good news? There’s a little pulse of energy building toward the end of the second week that might just make it worth the wait.
First up, Off the Wall/Insanities. The water’s sitting at 80°, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. Over the next few days, we’ve got onshore breezes and barely a ripple. The swell energy is weak, with values in the 30s and 40s. Not exactly firing.
Sunday the 16th is a write-off. Rain and a fresh breeze at 22 mph, with surf around 1ft. It’s poor, plain and simple. The same goes for Monday the 17th – the swell drops to 0.7ft, and the energy is nearly gone, down to single digits. You’d be better off doing a beach cleanup.
Things start to shift a little around Wednesday the 19th. We get a little bump to 2ft, and the wind turns light offshore. It’s still small, but at least it’s clean. The combined energy jumps to 113, which is the first sign of any moderate push. The period is short at 7 seconds though, so it’ll be a bit crumbly.
Friday the 21st sees the wind go glassy, which is a huge plus. The swell is 3ft, and the energy is up to 77. It’s still small, but those conditions will make it feel better than it looks. This is the best of the first week, but honestly, that’s not saying much. If you’re a goofy-footer on a groveler, you might have some fun.
After that, Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd are back to tiny, with a bit of a bump on Monday the 24th when we see the energy crack the 100 mark again. But the wave height is still stuck around 2ft, and the wind is picking up. This is all a warm-up.
Now, here’s where things get interesting. From Monday the 25th onward, the swell direction shifts to the NW, and the energy starts to climb into the 130s and 140s. That’s moderate wave energy, and you can feel it in the water. The wave height is still struggling, only 3ft, but the period is a more solid 11 seconds. The problem is the wind. It’s a consistent 16 mph from the ENE, which is offshore and clean, but it’s also a bit strong. It’ll keep the surface tidy, but it’s pushy.
The big caveat here is that this longer-period swell, while better shaped, can make a reef like this break a little more challenging. It’s still a long way from anything big, but there are glimmers of hope.
Sunday the 30th and Monday the 31st look like the most promising window. The swell is still only 2-2ft, but the energy is steady in the 50s to 80s, and the wind is offshore. It’s not a classic, but it’s the most consistent and cleanest we’ve seen. For a spot that’s *fairly consistent*, it’s going to be a session for the dedicated surfer. Don’t expect barrels, just clean little lines.
This setup honestly looks more like a fun longboard or fish day, not a high-performance shortboard session. The crowds here can be a factor, especially when it’s small, so you can expect some company.
Bottom line: the first 10 days are pretty grim. But the last few days of the month have a bit of a pulse, and if you can pick your window when the tide and the offshore wind line up, you might find a few fun ones. It’s not a standout forecast by any means, but it’s not a total bust either.
Rusty out.
