Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what's heading our way for the North Shore.
Right now, things are looking pretty flat and frustrating. We’ve got a real dry spell on our hands for the next week or so. There’s just no energy in the water that’s worth paddling out for. It’s gonna be a long wait, but hang in there because things are looking promising down the track.
The best window of the whole forecast is shaping up for the second week. The standout run starts on Monday the 13th of July and carries through Tuesday the 14th of July. This is the one to keep your eye on.
Pipeline is your target. We’re looking at a consistent 3 ft to 3 ft swell pushing in from the SSW, with a period around 14-15 seconds. That’s a nice groundswell with proper energy behind it – you can feel it in the moderate combined energy readings (between 497 and 646). What really makes this a standout is the wind. We’ve got light breezes, dropping to a light breeze from the East, keeping the surface glassy and clean. The water temp is sitting at a very pleasant 79°, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no weirdness there.
This is an advanced-level wave at a famously hollow reef break, and on the 13th and 14th it should be offering up some proper shaped lines. Just be aware, this spot can get crowded, so don’t expect to have it to yourself. For the rest of that week, through the 15th, 16th and into the 17th, the swell holds in at around 2 ft to 3 ft with clean cross-off winds, offering some fun, but not quite the peak of that Monday-Tuesday window.
Before that, from the 3rd through to the 12th of July, it’s mostly a write-off. We’re getting wave heights barely cracking 3 ft, but the wind stays stiff and cross-off, and the data just keeps flagging poor conditions and marginal surf. It’s not worth the fight.
So, mark your calendar for that Monday and Tuesday session. It’s not a massive swell, but the conditions line up perfectly for some clean, lined-up barrels. After that, the energy slowly fades out through the 18th.
Keep your eyes on the horizon and your stick waxed.
