Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break it down.
We’ve got a flat start to the outlook. The first few days are dead quiet with poor surf conditions and no recommendations at all. You’re looking at a gap of several days before anything even gets close to worth a look.
The first time we see anything semi-interesting is Sunday, July 5th. Pipeline has some long-period groundswell from the SSW – 3 ft at 18 seconds – but that cross-off wind from the ENE at 30 km/h is blowing across it, messing up the face. It’s a marginal situation. The combined swell energy is moderate (643), but the wind’s just not cooperating. Crowds are often thick here, and it’s strictly for experts.
The first week stays pretty rough. The swell drops off, and those ENE trades don’t let up, keeping the surface bumpy.
We get a tiny pulse of hope around Monday, July 13th. Still nothing big – 3 ft from the SSW, period around 15 seconds – but the wind eases a hair. The combined energy picks up to 585, and we get a "marginal" tag. Tide could mess with it, but it’s at least a step up from junk.
The one real highlight of the whole 16 days – and I mean the only session that has me even slightly excited – is Tuesday, July 14th through Wednesday, July 15th. This is where it shifts. The swell swings to the W, which is the sweet spot for Pipeline. Heights stay around 2 ft to 3 ft, but the period is a solid 15-16 seconds, and the combined energy hits a decent 704 for Tuesday afternoon. The wind drops to 20 km/h from the ENE, still cross-off but lighter. That’s your window. The long-period W groundswell should wrap in nicely on this reef. It’s not a big day, so beginners can sit it out, but for the experienced crew, this is the best on offer.
After that, into the second week, we’re back to mostly poor-to-marginal conditions. There’s a faint pulse on Sunday, July 19th – another long-period SSW groundswell (2 ft at 20 seconds) with lighter ENE winds at 20 km/h – but it’s a long way out and only a marginal call. Don’t bank on it.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a wash. Your best bet is the 14th and 15th of July, but this spot needs a bigger swell to really get cracking. Water temp is about 79°F – pretty normal for this time of year.
This is Rusty, signing off.
