The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming.
First thing, Wednesday morning the 15th of July is the one to circle. Pipeline’s showing clean 2ft W swell with a 15-second period. That’s long-period groundswell – good shape and power for the reef. Wind is a gentle cross-off from the east at 9 mph, so it’ll be clean. Combined energy sits at 383, which is moderate. It’s not big, but the conditions are right.
Water temp is 79°, dead average for this time of year. Nothing out of the ordinary.
From Thursday morning onward, the swell drops and swings more southerly – bad news for Pipeline, which likes it from the WNW. Waves stay tiny, between 1ft and 2ft, with period dropping into the 12-14 second range. Combined energy falls into the low triple and double digits – weak. The wind stays cross-off, but the quality isn’t worth the paddle.
Around the 22nd of July, Wednesday, we see a pulse of 2ft SSW swell with a very long 24-second period and combined energy of 437. But the wind is a gusty 16 mph cross-off, and that direction is wrong for the reef. Likely a messy, straight wave.
Then on the 24th of July, Friday afternoon, we get the biggest reading: 3ft from the SSW, 17-second period, combined energy at 534 – moderate to strong. Still wrong direction, and the wind is moderate. Not a stand-out.
The 26th of July, Sunday morning, shows similar – 3ft SSW, 18-second period, 547 combined energy. Might look promising on paper, but it’s a long-range call and not the right direction for Pipe.
So, the only real highlight is that Wednesday morning. After that, it’s a lot of waiting. Get it while you can.
Rusty.
