Haleiwa/Toilet Bowl Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Haleiwa/Toilet Bowl over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – for a spot that can really fire, this forecast is mostly a quiet stretch. There are a couple of windows that look promising, especially for the patient surfer, but you’re gonna be waiting a while.

For the first week and a half, it’s pretty grim. From Wednesday the 2nd all the way through to about the 11th, we’re looking at small, weak swell and a persistent cross-off wind. The water temp is right around average for this time of year at 81°F, so at least you won’t be cold while you’re sitting there wondering where the waves went. Most days the combined energy is in the low double or triple digits – a sign of weak, un-energetic surf. There’s a little spike on Monday the 7th afternoon, with a 7ft swell from the SW at a long 13 seconds, and a combined energy of 1460, which is substantial. But the wind is a messy cross-off from the ENE at 16 mph, and the tide or conditions are questionable. It’s gonna be a washing machine. Honestly, it looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle that day.

Then we hit a real dry spell. The morning of Tuesday the 8th has a stiff SE wind at 25 mph blowing straight offshore, but the swell is only 3ft – it would be clean but you’d be fighting strong wind just to get out. Not worth it.

The real standout, and the only window I’d get excited about, is Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th. This is where the patience pays off. On Saturday afternoon, the wind drops to a glassy 3 mph from the E, and we get a 3ft swell from the NE with a period of 11 seconds (a nice groundswell). The combined energy is 238 – moderate but clean. On Sunday, it gets even better: glassy conditions again (ENE 3 mph), swell holding at 3ft from the NE, period 10 seconds, and a combined energy of 249. Expect good surf conditions. It’s not big, but for a reef break like Toilet Bowl, that size with that wind will produce some fun, clean little runners. Crowds are often here, so expect company. That Sunday afternoon is the pick of the fortnight.

After that, Monday the 14th afternoon has a real oddball: a 2ft SW groundswell with a massive 23-second period and a combined energy of 524. That’s a very long period, and while the energy is solid, for a beach or reef setup it can break straight and be tricky. The wind is glassy though, so if you know the break, it could be a surprise session.

The final week from the 15th onward fades back into small, ordinary conditions with cross-off breezes. Nothing else worth paddling out for.

Bottom line: it’s a long wait, but that glassy weekend of the 12th and 13th is your best bet. Clean, small, but surfable.
