Table - best surf conditions forecast for Aligator Rock over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, I’m looking at a long, flat stretch here. The whole 16-day window is one of those quiet spells where you’re better off keeping the board in the car and taking a walk instead. There’s nothing on offer that’s worth paddling out for. The first few days, through Monday the 19th of August, we’re seeing tiny, poor-quality waves – nothing above 0.3m, with short-period slop. That’s not surf, that’s a lake. By the middle of the week around Wednesday the 21st, we get a brief pulse of 2 ft swell from the NE, but the period is a shocking 6 to 7 seconds. That’s windswell junk, and the commentary calls the conditions poor. Not worth a second look.
The one moment that almost teases us is Saturday afternoon, the 22nd of August. The swell ticks up to 2 ft from the W with a 12-second period and offshores from the ENE at 15 mph. The combined energy hits 117 (moderate), but the wave comment still calls it “very ordinary conditions.” That sums it up – it’s a tiny bump, not a session.
From Sunday the 23rd onward, through the end of August and into the first day of September, the story doesn’t change. We get a few scattered days with energy readings in the low 100s, but the swell height stays stubbornly under 3 ft, and the reports keep calling everything “poor surf conditions.” The winds are often offshore, which is a tease, but there’s just no size or power.
If you’re a kiter, might be something to look at on a breezy day like the 23rd, when the wind is 19 mph from the NE, but for surfing? It’s a blank run. For Aligator Rock, this sort of flat spell is more normal than unusual. It’s a reef break that needs proper direction and size, and we just aren’t getting it. Don’t hold your breath; forecasts can shift, but right now, there’s nothing to get excited about.
Rusty.
