Table - best surf conditions forecast for D and W over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming our way for D and W. This is a sheltered beach and jetty set-up that needs a good swell from the northwest to really work, and over the next 16 days, we're looking at a whole lot of nothing for a while. It’s a tough run.
The water is sitting at 68° - that's a solid 4° warmer than usual for this time of year, so it’s feeling like a warm bath out there.
We start off in a hole. Saturday the 11th is a write-off with tiny 1ft westerly slop and a cross-onshore wind. The next few days through to the middle of the week are just as flat, with heights barely cracking 1ft and poor conditions. There’s a bit of a bump in swell energy from the 14th through the 18th, with the combined energy climbing into the low to mid hundreds (117 to 312), but the swell is coming from the southwest, which is the wrong direction for this spot. With the wind mostly onshore or cross-onshore, the surf is just messy and small. It’s not worth paddling out for.
We hit a real dead zone from the 21st to the 23rd, with flat spells and zero energy. Then, on the 24th, the energy jumps up to 282 from the southwest but it’s still a tiny 2ft. The lone standout in this whole forecast is the 25th of July. Saturday morning the 25th will see a 3ft southwest swell with a very long period of 21 seconds, and the combined energy hits a strong 683. The wind is light and onshore from the southwest, so it won't be glassy. The swell direction is still not optimum, and the long period tends to make a beach break close out straight. It’s the most interesting pulse we get, but don't expect perfect shape. The crowds are "sometimes", so you might have some company. After that, it fades back into the doldrums for the 26th.
Overall, it's a grim outlook. The area is just starved of the right swell direction. Hold onto your boards, it’s a waiting game.
