The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. I’m looking at the forecast for D and W, and I gotta be straight with you—it’s a tough stretch coming up. This is a sheltered beach and jetty setup that really needs a clean window, and for the next 16 days, that window just isn't opening.
The first recommendation doesn’t even show up until the 18th of July, and even then it’s a struggle. We’ve got a tiny 2 ft swell from the southwest, hanging around with a very long 18-second period, but the wind is cross-on and messy. The wave energy is moderate (258 combined energy), but the conditions are labeled "poor" across the board. That southwest wind is on it, killing any chance of a clean face. It’s just not worth paddling out for.
The next few days are more of the same. Sunday the 19th has a touch more size at 3 ft, but again, onshore wind and only moderate energy (402 combined energy). Monday through Wednesday are flat or tiny, with periods dropping to 4 or 5 seconds—that’s windswell junk. The wind stays onshore or cross-onshore, and the wave comment never changes from "poor surf conditions." Honestly, this stretch is so weak it’s more interesting for a kite than a paddle.
We do get a pulse on the 28th of July. Tuesday morning shows a 4 ft swell from the southwest with a 14-second period and light cross-onshore wind. The combined energy jumps to 549, which is moderate but on the higher side. Still, with that cross-on breeze and a beach break setup, the waves will be a bit lumpy and unorganised. For an intermediate surfer, it might be worth a look, but it’s not a standout. The crowd profile here says "sometimes," so you might have company, but not a circus.
After that, it fades fast. The last week of July and into August 1st and 2nd, we’re back to tiny mush—0.6 ft to 1 ft swells with weak energy (under 30 combined energy). The wind stays onshore or cross-on, and the water temperature is about average for the time of year, nothing wild.
Honestly, there’s no single standout session in this whole 16-day window. The 28th of July is the closest to a surfable day, but it’s not clean enough to get excited about. The rest is a long gap of flat, windy, or just plain poor conditions. This area is fairly consistent normally, so this is a rough spell, but forecasts can change. For now, I’d keep the board in the car and wait for a better run.
