Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here, from D and W. Let’s call it like it is – these next two weeks are a rough stretch. The swell is tiny, and the wind’s blowin’ right on it or across it most days, so there’s nothing to get excited about.
The big picture: A long, flat period is settin’ in. The waves just aren’t gettin’ any size, and the wind is nearly always on it or cross-on it. There’s no standout session anywhere. It’s gonna be a quiet one.
From Friday, July 3rd, it’s all poor. Friday morning gives us a 0.5-foot west windswell with a 5-second period, but it’s blown out with a 10 km/h onshore south-southwest wind. The combined energy is a weak 10. Not worth the walk. Saturday and Sunday are the same – small, onshore, messy. Monday, July 6th, shows a slight bump to 0.7 feet west swell, 6-second period, but it’s still cross-on from the south at 10 km/h, with energy only at 29. Poor again.
Tuesday the 7th keeps it small and onshore. Wednesday the 8th afternoon sees the combined energy climb to 124, with a 0.9-foot west-northwest swell and a 7-second period, but it stays onshore from the southwest at 15 km/h – just a choppy mess.
Thursday the 9th morning has a 0.8-foot west swell with a longer 10-second period, energy at 118. But the wind is cross-on from the south-southwest at 10 km/h. That longer-period groundswell would be better off at a point break, but here it’s just gonna get chopped.
There’s a big gap of flat, poor surf from Friday the 10th through Tuesday the 14th. The swell barely hits 0.7 feet, the period is short, and the wind is on or cross-on. The combined energy drops into the teens and twenties.
Then, on Tuesday, July 14th afternoon, we get a tiny 0.3-foot swell from the southwest, but with a very long 18-second period. The energy is only 69. The wind is finally light and onshore from the southwest at 10 km/h, so it’s clean, but that’s barely a knee-high dribble. Not a goer.
Wednesday and Thursday the 15th and 16th repeat the same: small, long-period swells, light onshore winds, and energy under 120. The surf is still poor.
The only glimmer: Friday, July 17th, morning. We get a 0.4-foot southwest swell with a 19-second period. The energy jumps to 254 – that’s moderate energy for such a tiny wave. The wind is light and onshore from the southwest at 10 km/h, so it’s glassy. But it’s only 0.4 feet. For a real surfer, that’s barely a ripple. Saturday the 18th morning shows 0.6 feet from the southwest, 18-second period, energy at 256, and a light 5 km/h onshore south-southwest wind. Still small, but that long period could make for some clean little spinners if you’re on a longboard and you’re patient.
Honestly, this whole spell looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. The wind is onshore nearly all the time, and the waves are small. If you’re a paddle surfer, it’s a good time to wax your board and wait. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a flat spell. I’d sit this one out.
Rusty.
