Table - best surf conditions forecast for Abalone Cove over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what we’ve got on the cards for Abalone Cove. I gotta be straight with you – it’s a quiet stretch ahead. We’re looking at a long run of days with hardly anything to get excited about, so if you’re itching to paddle out, you’ll need some patience.
The whole 16-day window is pretty much a bust for any decent surf. From Wednesday July 8th right through to Saturday July 19th, it’s a whole lot of nothing. The swell is tiny, the wind is messy, and the forecasts are all shouting "poor surf conditions." You’ll see a few small pulses of swell, but the wind is almost always cross or cross-onshore, putting a chop on it and ruining any chance of a clean face. For a sheltered reef like Abalone Cove, the wave energy is weak to moderate at best, with combined energy values bouncing between 122 and 447 – that’s just not enough push for a proper ride.
Now, the water temp here is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there. But with such a poor run, it’s hard to get stoked.
Alright, let’s fast forward. After that long dry spell, we finally get a glimmer of hope on Sunday July 19th. The morning is the standout, and honestly, it’s pretty much the only one worth mentioning. We’ve got a glassy surface (light air, glassy), with a small 2 ft swell coming from the SW at a long 17 seconds. That long period is proper groundswell, which is good news for a reef setup like this – it’ll hold its shape better. The combined energy is 340, so still moderate, but the conditions will be clean. The wind is glassy, so expect smooth, peeling lines. Just keep in mind that this swell is small, so it’s beginner-friendly, but if you’re after a proper wave, it might be a bit weak. Also, crowds are possible here sometimes, so on a clean morning, you might have some company.
For the rest of that week and into the next, the wind stays cross or onshore, and the swell stays small. No other real highlights. It’s a waiting game. If you’re desperate, that Sunday morning window is your best bet, but don’t expect greatness.
Rusty out.
