Table - best surf conditions forecast for Torrance Beach/Burn Out over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab a coffee and sit down. Rusty here, giving you the nod for Torrance Beach.
Alright folks, let's be straight with each other. The next couple of weeks at Torrance Beach/Burn Out are looking pretty slim. This stretch is exposed to the WNW, and that's about the only thing going for it. For the first week, we've got small, weak energy - think combined swell energy in the (249 to 381 range) - coming from the SSW, but it's not a great match for that optimum direction. The water’s feeling a touch warmer than normal for July, coming in at 68°.
The best we've got lands on Thursday, July 10th, and Saturday, July 11th, in the mornings. Friday morning is clean with a light cross-offshore SSE breeze at 9 mph, and a 0.8ft SSW swell with a long 15-second period. Saturday morning is more of the same: some clouds, same clean cross-off wind, and 0.8ft of SSW groundswell. These windows offer the most shape we’ll see, but it's not going to blow you away. That long period means the sets will be fat and maybe a little straight on this beach setup, so you've got to pick your peaks.
After that, it gets rough. From Sunday afternoon right through to the end of the month, we're looking at a pretty sad stretch. The swell drops to 1ft to 2ft, the period shortens, and the wind goes onshore from the WSW or W, trashing what little rideable surface there is. There's a very long gap with no recommendations until... Saturday, July 18th, morning. This is a real tease. The wind goes completely glassy (0 mph from the W), and we get a 2ft, 18-second SW groundswell. The energy jumps to (278), which is moderate, but that period is so long it will be hard to connect on any sections unless you're in the right spot.
Because the setup is a beach break, the persistent small, weak swell (under 3ft) and onshore winds mean there's no real show for paddle surfing after that first weekend. Honestly, if you're after any action, the whole stretch from mid-July onward is looking more interesting for kite surfing than a paddle session.
Stay patient, the water's warm, but the waves are not playing ball.
Rusty.
