Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. The next 16 days are looking pretty bleak for Torrance Beach and Burn Out. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak swell and onshore junk. You’ll be waiting a while for anything that’s even worth a look.
The first real chance you’ll have to paddle out is on Thursday, July 9th. The morning is your best bet. We’ve got a tiny 3 ft swell coming from the SSW, with a period of 16 seconds. That’s a long-period groundswell, which means it’ll have some push, but at this size, it’s not going to be a barnburner. The real story here is the wind. We’ve got a light SSE breeze blowing cross-offshore, which will keep the surface clean. The combined wave energy is moderate (370). It’s small, but it’ll be ridable and clean for a beginner-friendly wave.
After that, it’s back to the waiting game. The morning of Friday, July 10th offers a similar setup: a 2 ft SSW swell at 15 seconds, with a light SSE cross-off shore wind keeping things clean (233 energy). It’s more of the same – small, but workable.
Then we hit a long dry spell. From Saturday the 11th all the way through to Thursday the 17th, the surf is either poor or non-existent. The swell is tiny, dropping to 1 ft, and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, making it choppy and messy. The combined energy drops into the double digits and low triple digits – weak stuff.
Finally, there’s a glimmer on Friday, July 18th. The morning shows a clean 2 ft swell from the SW, with a 17-second period, and a light SE cross-offshore breeze. The combined energy is 211, and the report says “expect good surf conditions.” This is the standout of the whole forecast, but it’s still very small. Given it’s over a week away, treat it as promising but not a certainty.
Honestly, for the whole 16-day run, the surf is tiny and mostly blown out. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there. If you’re desperate for a paddle, the mornings of July 9th, 10th, and 18th are your only real windows. Otherwise, the beach looks better for a kite than a surfboard for most of this period.
Rusty.
