Table - best surf conditions forecast for Torrance Beach/Burn Out over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk about your local stretch. We’re looking at Torrance Beach/Burn Out and the next couple weeks are a real mixed bag, but mostly flat and disappointing if you’re after quality waves. The water is running much warmer than normal – about 69° – a proper anomaly at 4° above average for this time of year, which feels weird for July.
Right off the bat, there’s a gap before any real swell shows. The first worthwhile surf we get is a brief window on the morning of Friday the 10th. The swell is only 2 feet from the SSW, with a nice long 15-second period. The combined energy is moderate (238). The wind is SSE at 9 mph, cross-offshore, which should keep things clean. It’s a beginner-friendly wave, and the crowds are often around. Don’t expect much else from the rest of that day.
Saturday the 11th morning has similar 2 feet SSW swell but the energy drops a little (199) and the wind is more cross-off. It’s surfable, but nothing special.
Then we hit a real dry spell. From Sunday the 12th all the way through to Thursday the 17th, conditions are poor to ordinary. Swell sizes drop to 1 foot to 1 feet, the wind turns onshore or cross-onshore, and the scores are terrible. Lots of afternoons with moderate breeze ruining the surface. There’s almost nothing to recommend.
Friday the 18th morning sees a slight pulse of 2 feet SSW swell but it’s cross-on and only marginal.
Around Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st, you get small waves again – around 2 feet to 2 feet – but the afternoon winds are straight onshore, making it messy. Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd mornings offer a little clean window with cross-off or glassy conditions, but the swell remains tiny, 2 feet to 2 feet, and energy is moderate.
Truth is, there’s only one true standout across the whole period: the Friday morning, July 10th. It’s not big but with that long 15-second SSW groundswell and cross-off wind, Torrance Beach will have the cleanest, most lined-up little waves of the whole run. If you’re a beginner or on a longboard, that’s your session.
After that, the best bet for a glassy dawn patrol is maybe the morning of Thursday the 23rd with some glass and 2 feet SSW swell, but it’s very weak (126 combined energy) and ordinary. Long-range, the last couple days of the forecast see a tiny bump of 1 feet but with a very long 21-second period on Saturday the 25th – that’s so weak and drawn out it’ll barely break at a beach break like this. For experienced surfers, it’s not worth paddling out.
Overall, you’re looking at two weeks where most days are a write-off for anything decent. The swell energy is low, the winds turn bad often, and the consistency is poor. It’s a typical summer lull, really. Don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
