The Lowdown
Alright, let me break this down for you. It’s been a slow stretch here. The surf has been small and most of the time the wind is wrong. There’s one little window late in the period that might give you something decent.
From Monday August 17th, right on through the next couple weeks, we’re looking at tiny swell, mostly 1 to 2 feet, out of the SSW or SW. The period is long – 14 to 19 seconds – so it’s got some groundswell character, but the wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, so the surface is chopped up. The wave energy is weak to moderate, mostly between 100 and 250. Not worth getting excited about.
Mornings are usually the cleaner part of the day, but that light cross-onshore breeze still ruins the surface. Afternoons are worse – stronger onshore wind, 10 to 15 mph, often from the W or WSW.
Now, if you’re willing to wait, there’s one bright spot. On Friday August 28th, in the afternoon, we finally get an offshore wind from the E at 10 mph. The conditions clean right up. Swell is only about 2 feet from the SSW at 16 seconds, but the report says “expect good surf conditions.” That’s the only session in the whole 16 days that gets the green light. It’s small, but it’ll be clean. That’s your best bet.
Before that, it’s a long stretch of poor surf and bad wind. After that, it’s back to the same. The water temp is about average for this time of year.
So, it’s a quiet run. This break is fairly consistent, so it won’t stay this bad forever. Keep an eye on Friday the 28th, late in the day. Otherwise, don’t bother.
Rusty.
