The Lowdown
Alright, surf’s up... eventually. Let’s be real, the next week and a half is looking pretty grim for a proper paddle. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak, and messy conditions. The swell energy is all over the place, mostly weak to moderate, and the wind just can’t seem to get out of its own way. We're looking at a lot of onshores and cross-shore slop. You’ll see energy readings in the 100s and 200s for most of this period, which just isn’t enough to get the blood pumping. It's a good time to check your wax supply or fix that leash.
The first real glimmer of hope doesn't show up until the end of the first week. On Thursday morning, August 28th, there’s a slight pickup in swell period, hitting 19 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell signal, even if the size is still small at 2ft and the winds are just cross-shore. The energy is up to 264, which is still moderate but a step in the right direction. It’s a tease more than anything.
The following week kicks off with something slightly more promising. On the morning of Tuesday, September 2nd, we finally get some cross-offshore wind and a hint of swell. It's small, around 1.5ft, but the conditions are clean. The energy is still weak to moderate at 167, so this is more about getting a few glassy slides in than any serious power.
The one standout, the day to actually circle on the calendar, is the morning of Thursday, September 3rd. This is the best of the bunch. Forecast is for cross-offshore winds, giving us that clean, glassy surface. Swell is still modest at 1.5ft, coming from the SSW with a period of 15 seconds. The combined energy reads 200, which is a moderate, workable amount. It’s not big, but it’s the cleanest and most promising conditions we’ve seen in the entire window. This will be your best chance to get a few fun ones on the longboard without it turning into a battle. Keep your expectations in check, but don’t be surprised if you’re smiling.
The wind stays favorable through the morning of Friday, September 4th, but the swell backs off a bit. It's still cross-off, but the energy drops, so it looks like that Thursday morning will be the highlight before the window closes out. A long period swell like that 15 seconds is best for points and reefs, not so much for the sandbars at a beach break like this, so keep that in mind. It might not be barreling, but it should be cleaner.
Remember, this is a 16-day outlook, and the forecasts for the later part of the second week are less reliable. For now, Thursday morning looks like the call. It’s gonna be a patience game, but there’s a little light at the end of the tunnel.
