The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break it down.
We’re starting with the Kiama Wedge. It’s a reef break, and the first few days are a washout. The water is about 65°, which is normal for this time of year, nothing unusual.
The first sign of life is on Sunday, July 19th. We’ve got a 6ft swell from the ENE with a long 11-second period—that’s real groundswell. The energy is solid (905), and it’s going glassy in the afternoon with offshore ESE winds. It’s a standout, but that long period will make it a bit straight at the reef, so it’s a tricky one.
The absolute best of the run is Monday, July 20th, in the morning. The wind is glassy, and we have a clean 5ft ENE swell with a 10-second period. The energy is pumping (661), and it’s going to be perfectly clean. This is the one to target. It can get a crowd here, so expect a few others out.
The next few days are solid. Tuesday, July 21st morning has a clean 5ft ENE swell with cross-offshore winds, and the energy (504) is still strong. Wednesday and Thursday the 22nd and 23rd keep up the clean cross-offshore winds, with the swell holding around 4ft to 5ft. The energy stays moderate to strong. The longer period on the 23rd (11 seconds) will give it a bit more punch.
After that, the size drops. Saturday, July 25th morning goes glassy with a 4ft ENE swell, and the energy is still decent (467). That’s another clean, fun session.
The last week of the month sees the swell drop to 3ft and under, but the wind stays clean. From the 27th onward, you’re looking at small, clean waves. They’ll be very ordinary, but if you’re itching for a surf, you’ll find a waist-high wave.
The standout is Monday, July 20th morning with the glassy conditions and clean 5ft swell. Sunday, July 19th afternoon is a close second if you want more power with the long period. The rest of the week after that is clean but smaller.
Rusty.
