The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s run through the same forecast in feet and Fahrenheit.

Things start off slow at Bendalong Beach. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are a write-off – tiny, weak, and messy. Not worth paddling out.

Sunday the 19th morning is the real deal. Swell comes up to about 5ft from the ENE, with an 11-second period, and the wind is glassy – dead calm. That’s your best session by a long shot. The water temp is around 64°, which is average for this time of year. The combined energy is solid, over 700, so there’s some push. Sunday morning is the standout. The afternoon turns onshore, so hit it early.

Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st are rideable with waist-high ENE swell and light winds, but nothing special. Wednesday the 22nd afternoon cleans up with a cross-off breeze and chest-high waves.

Thursday the 23rd afternoon brings a 6ft south swell, but the period is only 6 seconds – that’s junky windswell. It’ll be choppy and better for a kite than a paddle.

The second week gets small again. Saturday the 25th of July morning has a tiny 1ft south swell, but with a crazy 19-second period – that’s long-period groundswell, but it’s so small you’ll be scratching for anything. Glassy though.

From the 26th of July on, it’s mostly flat and weak. The best bet in the second week is Saturday the 1st of August morning, with about 4ft from the south, 12 seconds, and clean offshore wind. It’s promising, but a long way off.

Sunday the 19th morning is your pick. Don’t miss it.

Rusty.
