The Lowdown

G'day, Rusty here. Look, I won't sugarcoat it—this stretch is a bit of a mixed bag. We've got Cudmirrah Reef, a tricky reef break that's really only for the advanced crew, and it's a very consistent spot that's exposed to the swell. The next week or so is mostly small and messy, but there are a couple of windows where things start to clean up. Water temp is sitting at 63°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing to worry about there.

The first few days are pretty grim. Friday the 21st has tiny 2ft waves from the NE with a short 7-second period and weak energy (49), and the wind is cross-off, but the overall quality is just poor. Saturday the 22nd is even smaller, with 1ft swell and onshore slop in the arvo. We're looking at a real flat spell here.

Now, things start to show a pulse on Sunday the 23rd. The morning has a small 2ft swell, but the period jumps to 14 seconds—that's a proper groundswell—and the energy climbs to 264. The wind is a light cross-off, and it's clean. The spot is rated as "expect good surf conditions," but the swell is tiny. It's a tease, but it's the first real sign of life.

The standout period really kicks off from Tuesday the 25th morning. We've got 4ft of NE swell, light offshore wind from the NW, and clean conditions. The energy is a solid 290, and it's the best we've seen so far. The swell direction is NE, which is right in the optimum zone for this reef. It's not huge, but it's clean and lined up.

Then Wednesday the 26th morning is a gem. Glassy conditions with a 3ft NE swell, 8-second period, and 120 energy. That glassy wind is a massive positive—it'll be smooth as silk. Thursday the 27th morning is also glassy, with 4ft of S swell and 314 energy. That's a good combo.

But the real highlight is Friday the 28th morning. Clear skies, offshore wind from the WNW, 4ft of S swell at 10 seconds, and 338 energy. It's clean, consistent, and the offshore will groom it perfectly. This is the best session on offer—light winds, good shape, and the reef will handle that S swell beautifully.

After that, the surf fades again. Saturday the 29th is small and choppy, and Sunday the 30th is blown out with strong cross-shore winds. The energy drops right off into the 40s and 50s, and we're looking at a flat spell through to Wednesday the 3rd of September.

Now, into the second week, there's a promising window. Thursday the 3rd of September morning has a clean 3ft S swell with offshore wind and 237 energy. The afternoon jumps to 7ft of NE swell with offshore wind and 443 energy—that's a solid pulse, but it's short period at 6 seconds, so it'll be a bit lumpy. Still, for the advanced crew, that's a fun option.

Friday the 4th morning is clean with 2ft SSE swell, 11-second period, and 232 energy. Then Saturday the 5th morning is a cracker: clear, light offshore, 3ft SSE swell with a 14-second period and 396 energy. That's a long-period groundswell, perfect for this reef, and it'll be glassy. The afternoon holds 3ft S swell with offshore wind and 335 energy. That Saturday is your best bet in the second week—clean, lined up, and the reef will be firing.

So, to sum it up: the real standouts are Friday the 28th morning and Thursday the 3rd of September afternoon for the big stuff, and Saturday the 5th morning for the long-period groundswell. Don't expect much outside those windows.

Rusty.
