Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here again. Let's look at Cudmirrah Reef in the old measurements.
So this reef is a consistent spot, and it breaks all the time, which is good. Water temp is about average for the season, nothing crazy. The forecast kicks off on Tuesday the 7th, but it’s rough. We’re looking at a 10-foot swell from the SE with a combined energy of 3755, and the wind is all cross-shore and messy. That’s a big, heavy wave over 8 foot, so it’s for experts only, and it’s going to be choppy and junky. The 8th is a little smaller at 8 foot, but it’s still cross-shore and ugly.
The real window opens on the morning of Thursday the 10th. The swell drops to a manageable 4 feet from the SE, and the wind goes glassy. Dead calm. That’s the good stuff. The energy is moderate at 401, and the period is 9 seconds, so it’ll be a fun, clean wave, not a monster, but a perfect paddling window for a decent session. That Thursday morning is the best on offer in the near term.
Then it all fades out. From the 11th to the 16th of July, we have a major lull. Swell drops under 3 feet, and hits as low as 1 foot on the 13th with almost no energy. That’s about 5-6 days of flat to tiny surf. Not worth paddling out.
Later in the forecast, on Thursday the 17th, a little pulse returns. The morning is glassy with a 3-foot swell from the S and a period of 11 seconds. Good shape, clean faces. Saturday the 18th also looks clean for the afternoon session.
Now, the big one: Tuesday the 21st of July. The forecast shows a massive 15-foot swell from the S, with a combined energy of 4615. That is a huge, powerful groundswell. The wind is a strong offshore from the W at 30 mph, so it will be clean, but this is a heavy, big-wave day for advanced surfers only. Anything over 8 feet on a reef is serious, and 15 feet is for the nuts. That is the standout for size and power, but it’s a distant promise and requires proper respect. It hangs around into the 22nd at 8 feet, still clean.
So, for a clean, fun wave, hit the morning of the 10th. For raw power and heavy consequences, the 21st of July is the one to circle, but only if you know what you’re doing.
Rusty.
