G'day, Rusty here, and I've got the outlook for Cudmirrah Reef.

Alright, we've got a bit of a mixed bag coming our way. For the first few days, it's gonna be a bit of a struggle to find anything decent. The real action, the stuff that gets the blood pumping, is a long way off, but it looks like it could be worth the wait.

Looking at the next week, it's a bit of a slow starter. Thursday afternoon, the 9th of July, we've got a small 5ft swell from the SE, but it's a bit messy with a light cross-on breeze. The energy's moderate (542), but it's not really doing it for me. Friday morning, the 10th, is a tease. The swell is still 5ft from the SE, but the wind goes glassy. It's gonna be clean as a whistle, but the wave quality just isn't there yet. By Saturday morning, the 11th, the swell has dropped to a tiny 2ft from the ESE. It's clean with light offshore winds, but it's a long-period groundswell (12 seconds) that will be better suited to points and reefs than this spot. The energy is weak (298). The rest of the week just gets smaller and sloppier, with a total energy drop-off into the low double digits. There's a spike in swell on Wednesday the 15th, with a 7ft to 8ft southerly pulse, but it's short-period (7 seconds) and hammered by a fresh 19 mph cross-on wind. That's a kite-surfing breeze, not a paddling wind.

Now, hold on to your board shorts, because things get interesting from the 16th of July. Thursday the 16th sees a solid 13ft SSE swell roll in, but the wind is a moderate cross-shore, making it a bit of a battle. The energy is strong (2517). The real standout, the one you want to circle on your calendar, is Saturday morning, the 18th of July. We're looking at a powerful 13ft ESE swell with a very long period of 12 seconds. The wind is glassy, and it's labelled as "exceptional surf conditions for expert surfers". The energy is massive (5897). This is a big, solid groundswell that will be breaking with serious power. For a reef break like this, it's going to be a proper test of skill. The offshore wind from the NW on Sunday the 19th keeps it clean with a solid 15ft SE swell. The energy is still huge (6789). This is the sweet spot: big, powerful, and clean. This is for the experienced crew only.

The swell then eases into the third week, with Monday the 20th offering a very manageable 8ft SE swell with light offshore winds, excellent for experienced surfers. The energy is still strong (1790). It starts to drop off by the 21st of July, with a cleaner 6ft ESE swell in the morning, but the wind swings onshore in the afternoon. After that, it's pretty much back to small, choppy leftovers.

The water temperature is sitting at 63°F, which is about average for the time of year, so nothing special there.

The one true standout is the 18th and 19th of July. That Saturday morning with the glassy 13ft swell is as good as it gets for the experts. The Sunday is right there with it, just a touch of wind but still clean. Keep in mind, this is a long-range forecast, so it's a promising outlook, but we'll have to wait and see how it shapes up. The crowds are listed as "sometimes" here, but with a swell like that, you can bet there will be a few out.

Rusty.
