Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cudmirrah Reef over the next 16 days.
Right then, let's have a look at what’s on the cards for the coming days. It's a bit of a slow start, I won’t lie. There’s nothing worth paddling out for until next Wednesday, the 15th, so you've got a stretch of flat, windy days to get through first. The break is Cudmirrah Reef, a reef setup that's very consistent and exposed to swell.
Now, when things finally kick off on Wednesday morning, the 15th, it’s proper size. We’re looking at a solid 7ft swell from the south, with a period of 9 seconds. The wave energy is strong, sitting at (1176). The wind is cross-shore from the SSW at 9 mph, which will put a bit of a chop on it. At this size, it’s an expert-only wave; not one for the faint-hearted. Water temp is about average for this time of year. The afternoon winds clock around to a light cross-onshore, and the swell drops to 5ft, but that cross-onshore breeze isn’t doing it any favours. Thursday the 16th is more of the same, with 5ft and a light cross-onshore, but you’re better off giving it a miss.
The real standout, the session you want to circle, is Monday the 20th in the afternoon. That’s when it all locks in. A tidy 4ft swell from the ENE at 10 seconds, pushing a moderate energy of (453). But the wind, mate, it’s offshore from the WNW at 9 mph. That’s going to groom the reef beautifully. Expect clean, peeling lines. If you can get out of work early, that’s your window. Tuesday morning the 21st is also a beauty, with 3ft, glassy conditions from a light SW breeze, and the wave energy at (210). It’s smaller but clean, perfect for a longer board.
Later in the week, Wednesday the 22nd morning has a glassy 4ft from the south at a short period of 7 seconds, but the wind is dead calm. It’ll be clean but a bit choppy from the energy; the period is so short it’ll be a bit walled up. A fun enough session if you’re keen.
There’s also a pulse for Friday the 23rd afternoon; 2ft but with a very long period of 18 seconds from the south, and glassy conditions. On a reef, that long period will have the sets lining up with proper shape, but the size is tiny. A log or a fish would go alright if you’re patient.
So, to wrap it up: you wait a week, then Monday the 20th afternoon is your standout with clean offshore conditions, and Tuesday morning is the glassy backup. Anything over 8ft on the 15th is only for the brave, and a lot of the other days are just wind-chop and small mush. Cudmirrah Reef will deliver, just be patient.
Rusty.
