Table - best surf conditions forecast for Mckenzies Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what we’ve got. The first week or so has some fun, manageable waves, but the real standout is going to take a while to show up. We have a solid stretch of flat days in the middle, so don’t get too excited about the middle of the month unless you are an expert.
The action starts on Wednesday, July 8th at Mckenzies Beach. It’s a point break, very consistent, exposed to that SE swell. The water’s sitting at 63°F, which is about average for this time of year. Wednesday morning we have some clouds with a light cross-off breeze from the SW at 6 mph. The swell is a clean 7ft from the SE with a period of 10 seconds — that’s a solid groundswell. The energy is moderate at 978. It’s clean, with plenty of push for an intermediate surfer. That morning session is your best bet early on. Wednesday afternoon turns a bit trickier with a cross-on wind, making it a bit scrappy.
Thursday the 9th sees a drop in size to 4ft from the ESE, with a very long period of 11 seconds. The wind is light from the WSW, keeping it clean. That 539 energy is moderate. It’s a solid, if smaller, option for a morning surf. Friday the 10th is a beauty — the morning is glassy, with a 4ft SE swell and a light offshore from the NW. That’s as clean as it gets. The energy is moderate at 331. It will be a fun little session.
Saturday the 11th has dropped to 3ft with an 8-second period, so weaker and a bit short-period. It’s still surfable with a clean cross-off wind, but nothing to write home about. Sunday the 12th through to about Wednesday the 15th is a flat spell. The swell crashes hard, with heights dropping to 0.7ft – 1ft. Despite strong offshore winds, there’s just no wave energy to work with. That’s a gap of nearly four days with very little to recommend.
Now, here’s the one to circle on the calendar. Thursday, July 16th: the swell jumps up to 8ft from the SSE in the morning, with a 12-second period. The energy is strong at 1929. By the afternoon, it gets wild — 13ft from the S with a 13-second period and a massive 7056 energy. That is a very strong, heavy swell. The winds are cross-off, so it will be clean, but the note says this is too big for this break. This is strictly for experienced surfers only, and even then, you need to know Mckenzies well.
Friday, July 17th is the true standout. The morning is perfect: 8ft from the SSE, 12-second period, 1637 energy, and a light cross-off from the WSW at 6 mph. This is clean, powerful, and aimed right at the point. This is the best on offer in the whole window. The water temp is still normal. It will be for the experienced crew. After that, things drop back to more modest 5ft surf on Saturday the 18th, with glassy conditions in the morning. Sunday the 19th is smaller again at 2ft, but glassy and clean.
The final week from the 20th onward fades back into small, weak surf with nothing worth chasing.
Rusty out.
