Table - best surf conditions forecast for Mckenzies Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s chew the fat on what’s coming for Mckenzies Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a slow start. The first proper surf window isn’t until Friday morning, 10 July. That morning, some clouds are hanging around, but the wind is glassy from the WNW and we’ve got a clean 4ft swell from the SE, with a period of 9 seconds and moderate wave energy (348). The water temp is sitting at 63°, which is pretty much average for this time of year – nothing weird there. This is the pick of the early period: clean, small, and fun on a point break like this. It’s a spot that’s very consistent, so you can bank on it, but crowds are likely here, so get in early.
The rest of that Friday afternoon gets choppy with a cross-on wind, and Saturday morning, 11 July, drops right off to 2ft from the E with a longer 12-second period, but the wind is cross-off from the NW, keeping it clean. It’s small though, so only worth a look if you’re desperate. Saturday afternoon the wind picks up to 12 mph, so it’s messy.
Sunday 12 July and Monday 13 July are tiny – we’re talking 2ft and 0.5ft – with moderate offshore wind, but the energy is weak (53 and 10). Not worth paddling out. There’s a gap of a few days of really small, poor conditions here.
Wednesday 15 July morning brings a glimmer: glassy conditions again, 2ft from the S with a 10-second period, but the energy is still low (93). It’s ordinary. Thursday 16 July morning is similar – glassy, 3ft from the SSE, period 8 seconds, energy 74. Still nothing to write home about.
The next real standout doesn’t show up until Sunday 19 July morning. The wind is light from the N, cross-off, and the swell bumps up to 4ft from the ENE with a 10-second period. The energy is solid moderate (243) and the surf is clean. This is a good morning for an intermediate surf at Mckenzies – the swell direction is right on the money for the optimum SE direction this spot loves. Not too big, not too small.
Monday 20 July morning is also solid: 4ft from the ENE, 10-second period, clean cross-off wind from the NNW, and energy hits 342. That’s the best energy of the whole run. Tuesday 21 July keeps the run going with offshore winds from the WNW, 3ft, and clean conditions all day. After that, it fades out again through the end of the week, with Thursday 23 July afternoon seeing a bigger 5ft from the ESE but with a cross-on wind ruining it.
Overall, the best on offer is the Sunday 19 July morning and Monday 20 July morning. Clean, shoulder-high, good energy, and right direction for the point. The rest of the window is mostly small or wind-affected. Get it while it’s good.
Rusty.
