Alright, surfers, Rusty here, let's talk about what's on the table for your local stretch of coast.
Alright, so the first few days are looking pretty average, to be honest. The swell's there, but it's messy. We've got a pulse of south/southeast swell rolling in, but the wind is a pain in the neck, mostly cross-shore. Don't get too excited just yet.
Sunday, July 5th kicks off with a bit of a dud. Mckenzies Beach is seeing a 6 ft south swell, but it's crossed-up and choppy. The water's a touch warmer than normal, sitting at 64°, nothing crazy. It's a write-off for paddle surfing, honestly.
Monday, July 6th morning cleans up a little with a 8 ft SSE swell period 10s, and gentler cross-shore wind. The energy is moderate (1743), but the wave comment says it all – marginal. Afternoon drops off and gets small and messy again.
Now, Tuesday, July 7th morning is where you want to be. We've got a solid 6 ft swell from the SE, and the wind swings cross-offshore (SW 9 mph). It's clean. The comments back it up – excellent for experienced surfers. This is the highlight of the whole run. The swell is a bit beefy for beginners, over 5 ft, so know your limits.
Wednesday, July 8th morning also looks good. Another clean morning with a 6 ft SE swell, cross-off breeze, and a "very good" call. The energy's still decent (945). Afternoon turns into a choppy mess, so hit it early.
Thursday, July 9th is a beauty. Glassy conditions in the morning with a 4 ft SE swell, and the energy is light. Period drops to 9s in the afternoon, but it's still glassy. This is a solid option for a relaxing, clean session.
Friday, July 10th morning is another glassy winner with a 5 ft SE swell. That's three clean mornings in a row. Afternoon gets onshore and messy again.
After that, the surf starts to fade. Saturday, July 11th morning has tiny 4 ft swell but glassy conditions. From Sunday, July 12th onward, we're looking at a long stretch of poor or non-existent surf, with wave heights dropping to 1 ft or less. The energy numbers drop to two digits – that's a proper lull.
So, to sum it up: don't waste your time on Sunday and Monday. Your window is Tuesday, July 7th through Friday, July 10th mornings. Tuesday morning is the standout – solid size, clean, and grunty. Saturday the 11th morning is a last gasp for a glassy small-wave board session. After that, it's a flat spell for almost a week. Could change, but that's the call right now.
Rusty.
