Table - best surf conditions forecast for Denhams Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab a coffee and have a listen. This is a bit of a slow burner for Denhams Beach, but there’s a real gem hiding in the second week if you’re patient.
For the first week or so, it’s pretty much a write-off. We’re staring at tiny, weak surf – barely a ripple – until we get towards the end of the first week. The wind is mostly offshore or cross-off, but with next to no swell, it’s just a flat, clean lake. You’ll see a little bump of 3ft on Friday morning the 17th, but it’s short-period, weak energy (84), and the conditions are just ordinary. That pretty much sums up the first week: a whole lot of nothing.
Then things start to change. Saturday the 18th sees the swell build slowly, but it’s still a bit messy. The real standout is Sunday the 19th. That morning, the stars align. We’ve got a solid 8ft of groundswell from the east-northeast, with a long 12-second period. That’s proper energy (1821), and the wind is dead calm – glassy as a mirror. This is only for experienced surfers, as it’s overhead-plus and powerful. The ENE direction is a good match for the beach’s optimum, so expect some solid, clean lines. The morning will be magic, but by the afternoon, an onshore breeze will chop it up, so get in early.
The good energy hangs around into Monday the 20th morning with a 7ft swell from the same direction, still with a clean cross-off breeze. It’s a little smaller but still very good. Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd mornings also offer clean, fun waves around the 5ft to 6ft mark, with glassy conditions on Wednesday. The water temp is sitting at 63°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year.
So, the call is simple: the first week is a write-off for surfing. Wait for Sunday the 19th morning for the best. Monday morning the 20th is the backup. After that, it slowly fades back to small stuff.
Rusty.
